I didn't know about this site until after I signed. Glad I didn't however, as I wouldn't have gone ahead. I did and have just had a cheque through this morning for £2,143.96. I paid them less than I got back plus I still save for three years. To be fair, I did make sure I read the contract beforehand. It did take them 14 months but the final result was worth it

I hate to rain on your parade, but why are you posting on here?  You say you didn't know about the site until AFTER you signed, so what made you look for it now that "your claim is settled"?  This site is to report unwanted, unknown or scam calls.  Usually the people who make positive posts are part of the scam.  After all, if a company does a good job you might thank them personally, but you don't go looking for a site you previously knew nothing about to praise them.

i contacted the police after recieving a LONG series of abusive calls from MR BROWN. He was calling my partner on her personal mobile from his personal mobile so the calls cannot be recorded. THIS IS NOT THEIR COMPANY POLICY AND IT IS ALSO HARRASMENT AND ABUSIVE BEHAVIOUR!

if they cannot provide the recordings of the calls you have had with them when they have stated that all outgoing calls from their office are recorded THIS IS ILLEGAL!

contact trading standards in Manchester as they are building a case against them.
also research the company thoroughly and you will find out some quite alarming things like a few years ago it was registered as a hairdressers!?????!

look at the previous posts regarding this company on this website and you will find some very interesting ones!

These people are crooks and have changed their number numerous times.

Can anyone tell me if they have actually been taken to court by these guys and what was the outcome?

Also has anyone paid the cancellation fee and then still recieved further invoices from them demandi ng more money?.

We have been made aware of this site from one of our clients and we would like to take this opportunity to put forward a statement directly from our company.

S.J. Associates (UK) Ltd is not happy with the slanderous comments about our company being a scam operation and a con! We would like to confirm that this is 100% incorrect!

We are members of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) and our surveyors are also members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). Our Head of Professional Services is also an ex Valuation Officer and is completely aware of all aspects of rating appeals and is fully qualified with the RICS to deal with appeals to their high standards and adhere to their Code of Measuring Practice.

We pride ourselves in the work we conduct and do not take kindly to comments made on this site, slandering our company and giving us a bad name. We are aware that not every business can make each client/customer 100% happy but we have noticed that every business listed on this site is being slandered.

As a company we would like to confirm the EXACT procedures we take and the service we offer – as per our agreement and not as per these comments.

S.J. Associates (UK) Ltd has thousands of clients who are happy with our company and the service we have provided them with (references are available should you wish for these to be issued to you). As a company we are more than aware that the business rates industry has been given a bad name due to a minority of non-genuine companies acting as agents for ratepayers and not fulfilling their contractual obligations.

As a company we have a Telemarketing Department who contact ratepayers who potentially, can appeal against the rateable value and challenge the assessment set by the Valuation Office Agency (VOA). Their role is to introduce the service we provide and arrange a meeting for one of our representatives to attend the property to discuss the matter in further detail.

The representative attends, discusses our services and provides clients with forms to be completed for us to act as their agent in connection with the business rates (if they wish to instruct our services). Once our paperwork is signed, a copy of the contract is left with the client and originals are set directly into the office.

Once received, our Confirmation Department contacts the client to confirm the service we are to provide and ensure the details are correct. If there are any discrepancies or if the client wishes not to proceed, the file is cancelled with immediate effect and as no work has been conducted at this stage, no fees are payable for our services. If the client wishes to proceed, the appeal is lodged and a confirmation letter is sent out to confirm our service again in writing.

When the appeal is acknowledged it is at that stage our interim fee becomes payable and our Survey Department then contacts the client to arrange for a site survey to be conducted and to collect payment for our services. At this stage, the fee would have been confirmed with the client a total of 6 times, both in writing and during telephone conversations.

When the survey report arrives, the file is immediately allocated to our Surveyors to collate the vital evidence needed, in order to discuss the appeal with the VOA. The next stage is for us to receive negotiation dates from the VOA to discuss the appeal with them and a letter is also sent to the client to confirm the dates, along with a copy of the letter received from the VOA.

Once negotiations are finalised, confirmation is sent out to the client immediately to inform them of the outcome of the appeal.

Our contract covers the client for three rateable periods and at present this would include the 2010, 2015 & 2020 revaluation lists.

totally the same experience is happening to us feel totally 'shaffed' and Mathew the 'legal person' for this company is probably one of the most unprofessional people I have ever dealt with. we will not be paying the company one penny. To everbody else who has been 'bullied' by  Mathew ..... quite amusing really as he really feels he is powerful...

don't pay them lets join forces ......

same thing has happened to our company - they are a new company and not 25 years old as the web site states.  (this in itself indicates a lack of credibility) they have only been in business for two years... which is fine but why not say that.... lie why??????
can I urge everbody not to pay them. we are currently dealing with trading standards on this matter and feeling very confident about the outcome

calling myself happy lady as I am just so 'happy' that so many other people are clearly unhappy with the 'sinister and underhanded manner of this company. The 'staff' who contact you during the process of payment are clearly not capable of getting honest employment in a genuine company. The attitude they take is aggressive and uncontrolled, I am feeling very confient about bringing the directors to court and am more than happy to make the investment required to do this.

Don't pay for the service they have not provided they are not transparent in their dealings and they need to be brought to task on this

Thank you for this addtional information it is most helpful and will form part of our legal recourse with this compnay. Can I urge all visitors to this site to not make any payments. Instead contact your local Trading Standars Office (really helpful.....) make notes of all your contact with this company - keep a file of all correspondance (as this will be requried for the case against them)  

somebody has mentioned Mathew from the legal department, sounds like  he's not being very helpful to the company he is currently employed with (can't last ....) the directors should really take him off the books ... he is making matters much worse for this company .. and they have a whole load of problems  comming there way

Having the same experience, normally I tell these companies i'm not interested, god what was i thinking.  Havent paid any money & not going to either. I have made a complaint to the Trading Standards.  These people are just plain rude, obnoxious, agressive.  I wonder would they speak to us in the same way if we were face to face or do you just think they behind the telephone.

IV HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS COMPANY I PAID £695 + VAT NOW I AM IN THE PROCESS OF TAKING THEM TO THE SMALL CLAIMS COURT JUST BUILDING MY CASE AT THE MOMENT.I HAD SEVERAL PHONECALLS FROM JASON STAPLETON IN THEIR LEGAL DEPARTMENT THREATENING TO SHUT ME DOWN IF I DIDNT PAY SO I DID PAY IN THE END BUT THEY WITHDREW MY CASE FROM THE VOA IN NOV WITHOUT DOING THE WORK THEY PROMISED YEAH WELL I AM SEEING THIS THROUGH TO THE END.

I HAVE JUST FOUND THIS SITE AFTER TRYING TO FIND SOME INFO ABOUT THIS COMPANY VERY INTERESTING TO FIND SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE BEEN DUPED INTO SIGNING THEIR SO CALLED CONTRACT BOTH ME AND MY WIFE WERE BOTH TOLD BY THE VERY NICE LADY WHO FIRST RANG US THAT THERE WAS NO MONEY TO BE PAID UP FRONT.SO I  SAID IT WOULD BE FINE IF THEY SENT SOMEONE ROUND TO  HAVE A WORD ABOUT WHAT THEY COULD SAVE US ON OUR RATES A FEW DAYS LATER THIS BLOKE CAME AND TOLD US THAT WE WERE NOT ONLY IN LINE FOR A LARGE RATES REDUCTION BUT HE ALSO TOLD US THAT HE WOULD BE ABLE TO GET THE REDUCTION BACK DATED,  HE ALSO ASSURED US THAT THERE WAS NO FEE PAYABLE WHAT SO EVER UNTIL WE ACTUALY GOT MONEY BACK. NEXT THING WE KNOW THIS WOMAN RINGS AND TELLS US WE HAVE TO PAY £695+VAT TO THE BLOKE THATS COMING TO DO A SURVEY SO WE REMINDED HER OF WHAT WE HAD BEEN TOLD IN THEIR SALES PATTER ABOUT NO FEES UP FRONT AND TOLD HER THAT WE DID NOT WISH TO CONTINUE WITH THEM ON ACCOUNT OF THE WAY IT HAD BEEN SOLD TO US. Hi guys! Keep staying strong and tell them that you are not going to pay because on this site they say that they give you the opertunity to withdraw your contract in the 9th paragraph of their statement above!
You must also remember that if they are calling you from a non company mobile phone this is illegal!!
Also if they cannot provide you with the recorded phone conversations this too is illegal and therefore they can either chase you for the money and then get a sentance or just go ahead and take it on the chin and get a sentance anyway!!!

they haven't been in contact with me for a few weeks now so hopefully that is the end of it!

Ask to speak to the top boy and don't take no for an answer!
