- Jonathan Harwood- case ref : SJA113813| 1 replyS.J. Associates (UK) Ltd phoned me, and said they could reduce my rates on my Holiday Let for a one off payment of £795.00, (they must have a way of finding out if you are overpaying) I showed interest and they arranged for their sales rep Kevin Morgan to visit and tell me what they could do. He said their 'one off' fee would be a £795.00 plus vat if they were successful in reducing my rates, If not there would be no charge. He came for a second meeting after I agreed to have a go with them as I have nothing to loose, he was very pleasant and gave me some paperwork to sign to get the ball rolling. He did not leave me any copies of the paperwork that I had signed. A couple of days later I recieve a letter from D Prophet (Confirmation Dept) S.J. Associates (UK) Ltd with their proposal to alter the rating list along with their fee of £795.00 + vat + now a 25% charge of one years rent reduction (which was never mentioned at all on the first sales phone call neither when Mr Kevin Morgan came to visit and did the sale) I immediately corresponded with a phone call to S.J. Associates (UK) Ltd to complain and they said they would look into it. I immediately then followed up with an email to info@sj-associates.co.uk telling them if this was the case of the added 25% (of one years rate reduction) I no longer wanted their service and to take this Notice of Termination of the Agreement with Immediate Effect. I have now just received correspondence from Mr Andrew Barrington (legal department) - S.J Associates (UK) Ltd that if I dont pay them the £795.00 + vat to proceed, I will have to pay a Cancellation Fee of £800.00 + vat.(stated in their terms and conditions - clause 5) that I have never seen or been given. Also they have told me to take legal advice from a firm of solicitors who specialise in Contract Law. I am in a state of shock!

- Joshua replies to Jonathan Harwood- case ref : SJA113813Ignore them Jonathan, they are a fraudulent company, they can send all the threatening letters and give all the threatening email or letters in their power, but it will not amount to anything - it is just hot air!!! These companies just make their money by trying to bully and intimidate people, threaten to take them to court and you will see they will go quiet!
- SWENPETERBOROUGH businesses are warned to be on their guard for phone calls from people claiming to be from a company which has taken over the collection of business rates, asking for bank details. Peterborough City Council is issuing the warning after receiving a number of calls from local businesses who have been contacted by individuals claiming to be from a company called S J Associates. The callers told the businesses that S J Associates has taken over the running and collection of business rates from the council. The caller has asked for bank details so a direct debit can be set up, giving 0161 872 3897 to one ratepayer as a contact number and adding that the work has been taken over under scheme reference number 103598. The council’s business rates team has spoken to S J Associates, and the company has confirmed that nobody from the company has made these calls. Shirley Pleszkan, the city council’s head of shared transactional services, said: “We have not appointed any outside companies to collect business rates on our behalf.

- ANGELA COX replies to BEENCONNEDDid anything come of this? Did you end up having to pay? Did they take you court? Pretty much going through the same.
- Ang replies to BEENCONNEDMe neither would rather go court unscrupulous company .
We work hard to build a business and scum like this thrive on scamming people how are they still going . - Jay| 1 replyWe are in similar situation. These scammers are harassing and bullying, demanding 795 + vat + 800 cancellation fee. I have sent them what solicitor has advised. Simply stay away from SSJ. They are professional conmen who will just give you stress and make you bound in 10 years contract..

- Salman replies to JayHave you had any luck with these guys? They have been harrassing me with fees and have tied me down in a similar situation. I am seeking legal advice and gathering other people in my situation to build a case against these cowboys.
- SamTotally same position here, I refuse to pay the frauds anything but they’re doing the best to get the now £2505.00, in their dreams!
I would prefer to give to solicitors or homeless people then these scammers who are demanding £795.00+VAT and cancellation charges £875+VAT and rising interest added on top, easy scamming scheme for them to take peoples hard earned money. It’s not ethical, their services weren’t used so they can’t charge for that!
There are so many complaints here and elsewhere yet still this company is open, I’m surprised! These directors are known for this yet are allowed to be directors and carry on trading???
There are many bad reviews on Trust Pilot, Facebook;Exposer TV, websites where people are asking lawyers for help. How can these people sleep at night causing so much distress to people! This is their way of earning, please do not get intimidated by them and do not pay up. They cannot force you to pay unless they take you to court and they will not WIN.
Everyone keep reporting them and refuse to pay.
I’d rather see SJ Associates (UK) Limited and Federal Management debt recovery in Court! Bullying me will not work!
They have threatened me with Statutory Demand Under Insolvency Act, if they believe the contract to be lawful then take me to court, if they keep making unwarranted demands and the contract is deemed to be unlawful then this is deemed as harassment so this is the route I’m going down now. I’m getting a harassment order against Federal Management and an injunction against the directors of both companies, if you get in touch with The Insolvency Service too and file a complaint against for fraudulent activities as they are misleading business’s into signing these contracts. Please report them to action fraud and trading standards agency, if enough people follow suit and do the same then they will have to take action against SJ Associates (UK) Limited and hopefully close them down and stop them from causing any more misery to other businesses. Hope this helps please make sure all contact with Federal Management is done by recorded delivery and ask them to cease and desist contact as the dispute is still ongoing with SJ Associates (UK) Limited and I highly recommend writing to Federal Management to warn them that the debt is disputed, and clearly setting out the reasons why. It should be highlighted to the creditor that disputed debts should be dealt with through the County Courts (subject to certain limits) and that using a Statutory Demand in this fashion is an abuse of process that will be brought to the attention of the Court. Has anyone got this far or been taken to court by these scammers? What was the outcome?- Caller: SJ ASSOCIATES (UK) LTD
