They came into my cafe saying they could get my rates reduced all it would cost is 650.00+vat I agreed to let them handle my rates appeal and paid them. That was in August 2014 now it's march 2015 this company never return your calls. No-one contacts you and in the end I've rang the Valuation office myself to get it sorted. Pure scam but I want to know how do I get my money back!!!

Just had the same scam from S.J Associates (UK) Ltd. "Surveyor" came to the office and tried to force me to sign a contract, stating the appeals process for my area would end in 5 days so this was my only chance. When I said I needed to hold on to his paperwork and check with my partners first - he got very agitated and upset, he insisted I had to sign it in his presence. I sent him packing. It is a pathetic scam - do not fall for it.

You are right it is a scam.the problem which has been accentuated by the govt is that if appeals are not put in by 31 March this year they cannot be backdated.that is why these sort of firms are out in force trying to get hundreds of pounds off unsuspecting clients even though the chances of a reduction are remote.they don't care.they just want your money.also you will probably discover that these surveyors are not employed by the firm.they just take their commission from the upfront payment.

Whoever you are,you are a joke.is it not amazing that one radio programme has really annoyed so many people.do you honestly believe that all the complaints dating back to years ago are a figment of somebody's imagination.this industry has been inundated with conning firms for years.appeals submitted with no chance of success so companies can take anything from five hundred pounds upwards as an initial fee.do whatever research you want to do.why would you want to come onto this site if you are not connected with one of these companies.out of curiosity.i don't believe you.

Justice for Victims : what is it that you are aiming to do for all the SJ Assoc victims?  Are you collectively gathering evidence?  I ask because I am one also. I can't believe they are still trading off the back of pure profit and greed.  They should be stopped.  They are parasites praying on small business owners who are working hard to keep people employed and their business' ticking over.

You seem to be a bit of an 'expert' on here and despite the abuse you've received from SJ employees you have the integrity to keep posting.  I just wondered if you knew of a central group or place where information is being brought together to bring these con men down?  Thanks in advance.

In response to your post I would make the following comments.firstly I have been abused many times but it is like water off a ducks back.the industry has to be cleaned up.every post on this site is now looked at by certain people in power so we are making slow progress.if you are asking if there is a central point no there is not.a lot of evidence has been collated in respect of appeals submitted with no chance of success and with huge upfront payments having been made.its all driven by telesales.with the greatest respect to you I don't who you are.in my cynical way you could be working for one of these firms.however if you have a grievance and it is genuine you will have to reveal your postcode of your premises and somebody will be in touch with you.

I am genuine.  I have more than a grievance!  SJ have received my letter before Court action last Friday which sets out my claim in its entirety.  My appeal was submitted with absolutely no chance of success from the outset.  The salesman (not surveyor - salesman) was incredibly convincing but I now know, having thoroughly done my research, he may as well have been talking Ewok!  It was absolutely complete and utter garbage. He stood in my office and lied to me on two separate occasions.

SJ associates are harassing me for fees. They are a council rates specialist who promise to get a reduction on your rates with no fee until successful.
Further research I am learning a lot of businesses have had a similar experience.
Who can offer me advice to establish whether or not I would have had a chance in a reduction or not. As I feel they prey on small vulnerable businesses like mine.

you state they are council rates experts.Thats a new one on me.The trick that they pull is they ask for a fee once the appeal is acknowledged or accepted.this means damn all.The vast majority of their appeals go absolutely nowhere.The whole rating industry has to be overhauled.This will come to a head very shortly.

I wondered what came of the threats from SJA when you refused to pay cancellation fee.....this is happening currently to a friend of mine and after reading all these horror stories have advised not to pay. Did they threaten legal action and did they follow up with it.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Can't believe what I have read and to small businesses too.....totally shameful!!!!
