5 calls this week alone!!  2 where the phone was put down (my wife answered), 2 where I instructed them to remove us from the database and the final one (yesterday) with a very rude individual called Garfield who got very annoyed when I refused to let him go with his "speel" opting instead to ask him for his full name - I was toldby the rep that I had no right to ask such details and that his surname was irrelevant to the call. Given that he had made an unsolicited call (and knew all my details -telephone number,  full address etc.),  thought that I could ask whatever I like - apparently "it's irrelevant who calls" ! Spoke to the manager (eventually - took 5 long mins of persuasion to get young Garfield to put me through), and asked them for a third time to remove me from the database....here's hoping!

If you take a job that involves calling a lot of people, (in their private homes),  that simply do not want to hear from you, expect the usual torrent of abuse - especially when it seems to be common place not to act on requests to remove people fro the database when requested. I'm afraid it's your choice to do the job and their's no sympathy from me

It's absolutely beyond me how some people can defend Homeserve calling people who have politely stated on many occasions they would like to be removed from the list.

Personally I received over 72 calls in the space of a few months... on every occasion I politely told the caller I was not interested and to be removed from the list to which the caller always said I had been until the next day when I received yet another call....

I would also estimate that of the 72 calls I received at least 40 or 50 where cold callers (I answered the phone only to hear what sounded like someone putting the phone down at the other end)

Homeserve are shocking and should be ashamed to bother people so many times. Seriously! calling two or three times per day? borderline harassment..........

I have had 11 calls from this number since 11 June. Some days they call 4 times. I don't know who they are. I am usually at work when they call.  I signed up to a list to stop these calls 3 years ago but still they call. What ever they are selling I don't want it.

Im currently round my parents and hd the joy of answering a cll from these people

Because it took me time to answer this call it had gone to answer macheine which they held on for the whole message. I picked up teh phone and said hello and they were chatting in the background nd having a bit of a laugh then hung up on me... even by sales standards this is poor.

I realise Homeserve are legit but surely tehy should be able to invest in some technology that tells them we already have the plan and already have a mira shower. I keep getting a call saying this is Homeserve on behalf of mira showers. I have a get out because Im curretly staying at my mums but when i am back home in my own flat and get this promotional call I ask "because I am a busy student and answering thes calls takes me away from my work that I stuggle to get back into is it possible to remove my number from this service?" I ask politly and twice have got a very rude woman on the phone to me basicly saying "well Im sorry to drag you away from your work" and hanging up. Still havent been removed. I try not to be rude as I realise it is a job and people answering teh phone arent personally causing this problem but sometimes they are just so rude. I sometimes get calls from homeserve 3 times a day. I think the company needs to sort out its computer system and teh automated dialer so it doesnt call three times a day and doesnt call people who already customers! I agree fully though people shouldnt be rude to the people on the end of the phone its not there fault.

Caller hung up a second or two after I said hello. 1471 and call back revealed a message:
"You were called today by Homeserve, we will try again later."
Try what? To say something? Cat got your tongue?

They rang today. No one said anything then the phone went dead. The mute button is a very good idea.

If you were politle enough to listen to what the agent had to say before deciding you didnt want the product, then not only would you A) possibly find that you may be interested, and B) the agent would be more than happy to remove you from the call list.

The reason you would continue to be called is if you havent let an agent do there job. How hard is it to listen to someone for 2 minutes before politley advising you dont want it rather than just saying you dont want something before you even know what it is

You are the people who miss out on free money. They might be calling to offer you a million quid!

These idiots are calling me at least twice a day.
Even after I have asked them to remove our number from their telephone database.
I have had no previous dealing with them.
I simply leave the phone to one side until they decide to hang up.

It's very scary how un-intelligent these people must be.

After leaving my message above, I have just read through all of the messages on this site.

It seems to me that those of you defending Homeserve are not only defending the right to ring anybody, via an entirely automated system (so you have no idea who you are calling), but also apparently think that you have a right to talk to the recipient - whether they like it or not - just so you can do your job!
You are absolutely right in saying that if Homeserve do not know that you do not wish to receive calls from them then, due to their poorly designed automated dialling system, people will continue to get bombarded with calls.

I have personally had many call s from HS and the majority end in the HS telemarketer (sales person) getting angry at my insistance that I do not wish to know what it is they are trying to sell me.
It appears that they cannot understand the concept of not wanting to be called to be sold something, not matter what it is.

I now receive calls and the caller says nothing, but hangs up after a long period of silence. (Defenders of HS will tell you that this is a problem with the system! (in many cases I can distinctly hear hussle and bussle in the background)  Even if it is a problem with the system, do you not concede that this is intrusive and wrong and cannot be defended!

As for the defenders of Homeserve saying that the company is totally legit, This may well be the case. But surely common sense show this website, and many others like it, to be evidence that their telemarketing policy is intrusive and unsatisfactory to many people. This being the case, if the company had any integrity and 'commercial sense' they would act to not allow silent calls from their auto diallers and not buy bulk telephone number listings for their marketing database.

Undoubtedly the law will eventually come into play and stop this sort of zombie-like telemarketing.
Until then, can I suggest the follow steps...

    1. Write FREEPOST to:
                    Customer Relations Dept
                    Homeserve Membership Ltd
                    Freepost RLYC-LXAL-GEEH
                    Walsall
                    West Midlands
                    WS2 7BN

       - -  In your letter use the words... - -
"Please suppress the telephone number (your phone number) from all future Homeserve telemarketing activities, promotions and campaigns. Please confirm this has been done, in writting, to me at the above address within the next 28 days.
If I do not receive your confirmation I will have no alternative, but to report your number to OFCOM."

    2. If you do not receive a letter from Homeserve within 28 days and the calls continue. Report the number to OFCOM at:   http://www.ofcom.org.uk/complain/landline/silent/

    3. Repeat above on a regular basis until the calls stop or it prompts some form of reaction OFCOM.

    Good luck people.

Hmm, maybe people do go about this the wrong way, but when you are being hounded you don't always act logically. Some of the victims may be elderly and don't think as fast as they used to. No self respecting company would call over and over again, nor use scare tactics to sell unwanted insurance. So, if you work for Homeserve please consider getting a proper job.
