I think you'll find that they have a 21, Knightsbridge, London office in which most of their administration, recruitment and global support services teams are operated from. They are fully regulated in the particular country they operate in, for example the Dubai office is regulated by the DFSA (Dubai Financial Services Authority). They are respected enough to have access to RBS, Morgan Stanley and Zurich products to name a few. You should be better informed before spreading such negative comments about a company.

Jamie who do you work for?  I'm trying to establish if this is all 'snake oil' - there seems to be a lot of bad press on google for them....

My husband has been to the seminar and has now been called back for an interview.

Any information from anyone that works currently for them would be greatly received.

    Thanks.

Happy to talk to you about them. The negative press tends to come from those who don't fully understand the role they are taking, travel abroad and leave their family behind and aren't cut out to succeed. If your husband understands what the role entails and is a talented salesman, networker and hard working he will earn a lot of money.

    Hi Jamie,

I have a meeting with them tomorrow at the open day.  I will go with an open mind and I know my own strengths but I would like to ask the same question as Sarah.  You seem to be very passionate about them.  What is the story please?

I think this is a fair question to ask you, considering your responses and I am genuinely interested in this company for a future role.

    Cheers,
    Mr Fuzzy

Stay well clear is my advice. Nigel Green used to be the ceo of Britex International - same mo - selling HIGHLY dodgy and totally inappropriate "savings plans" from offshore jurisdictions to expats. Needless to say alot of expats lost alot of money : though their "advisers" picked up thousands in commissions. Britex utilised a London virtual office but were registered in Panama and they even got kicked out of there. It takes ALOT to get kicked out of Panama LOL. Several of their "advisers" ( no qualifications i.e. unscrupulous sales men ) were arrested in Singapore for working without a permit or regulation. Green is basically trying to rebrand this sordid enterprise with a new name and splitting up the company into various separate entities utilising mailing boxes etc to provide a degree of apparent respectability and legality. I suggest reading this illuminating article which sums up what these spivs do very well indeed:

Any brief search online for Britex International or Devere Group will provide numerous examples of their woeful reputation.

Its important that you listen careful to the offer and also learn the strategies and that will help you become successful . The money is great however you have to work and the opportunity is there. Make sure you have enough money to support yourself for 6 months and you will be ok , if anything you will learn more about yourself than any other employer will teach you in a lifetime.

I don't know if anyone else who has researched Devere has noticed this, but all of the lengthy and "well informed" positive comments are so similar and scripted that it is pretty evident that they come from someone who is from Devere's marketing or management department, or at least some other incarnation of this..
They are not full of content about living conditions, the actual responses they received, realistic money details or any actual helpful information about the roles. Just all scripted speal you can find on the Devere Group website. All "negative" forum posts and groups on the company as quickly shut down or censored....this is so blatantly a scam its ridiculous. Paying for travel and accommodation, receiving training with little or no qualifications or experience, but magically earning £100K?? Seriously?! Open your eyes.

I have been offered a job working for de Vere. I am, understandably sceptical. I received a call from them out of the blue, attended the presentation and then went for an interview. I got called back the day after offering me the job.

I have absolutely no financial experience, but have worked as a sales rep for about two years for a fairly prestigious company. I also have a good degree, but to be offered a job which you can earn £200,000 per annum seems rather unrealistic. I am 25 and would absolutely love the chance to work abroad, but the fact you have to pay for everything, including flights, accommodation, training and I believe equipment (e.g. office material costs?) concerns me probably more than the fact it is commission only. I only have access to about £3000 currently, therefore affording an apartment in somewhere such as Abu Dhabi or Cape Town, etc until the commission apparently starts rolling in it a bit unfeasible.

I have read mixed reviews and although I don't tend to listen to hearsay, when it comes to a decision such as this, any information would be helpful. It just appears odd to be offered a job like this, where the only preparation to get it was doing about 15 minutes research on the internet. Also, the guy who interviewed me said I would be responsible for paying a certain percentage of my co-ordinators' rent. I certainly was not impressed by this. Paying 20% of your commission for them booking your appointments is fair enough, but to be asked to pay a proportion of their rent??? It's a huge, huge risk, especially considering your potential clients may be unsuitable, or you may not even be given enough appointments.

Any advice asap would be great,

    Thanks,

    Jack

Look folks I will be fair in the response , firstly its all true , however its a difficult sale , hard no , but you have to be persistent. Step out of your shell take a risk and it might work , is it for everyone ....no . My suggestion is to try out these companies , go to London do the training , but if you dont have the money or time to lose then its not for you. A lot fail.... and quite a few succeed, Its not labour hard factory work , you put a suit on go to the office in the morning , telemarket , make appointments and close sales , its that simple. The problem I see here is that everyone wants it all too easy and unfortunately getting executives to part with their cash is difficult. Would you part with your cash every month to someone who you dont even know ....

I am a financial adviser here in the UK and yes it is possible to earn that kind of money but you will need very good quality leads without that you will be very hard up to get a sale. Like any sales job you will get lots of rejection how you deal with this and how this will affect your state of mind going into the next call is crucial.  If you do one good investment scheme for a client a month, you could get up to £2000.00 in commissions if not a lot more or less for that matter.  Don’t forget if a client cashes in the investment there will be a glawback on the commissions paid. You will be dealing with clients that could be parting with a large sum of money and as a result you will need to know a lot about how investments work and the decree of risks involved with each type of investment and how much risk the client is willing to take. I think to make this work the leads need to be of the highest quality and if they are you could possibly make £6000.00 a month once the commissions start rolling in. Ultimately your success will be based on the quality of the leads and maximising the sale.

    A tax adviser's take: http://www.international-adviser.com/article/ ... a-investigation
The job adverts make lots of enticing-sounding claims, including that the earnings are tax-free. Wonder if the taxman agrees.

If you're considering working for a particular company, check out independent sources. Ask around independent recruitment consultants. Search online for independent information. What do former clients say? What do former employees say? Things might be different in reality.

That makes sense. That will make it more difficult for potential recruits and potential clients to Google the name and find feedback and the new entities will deny any connection with the company.

I know something of this company. Some comments [in brackets] for Pablo, the Devere staffer:

"I've had the call [wrong, you work there] and followed up with a visit to the office. Yes Dana (Above) they are in Knightsbridge.
They seem to be a professional sales organisation [sales organisation, yes, and nothing else] providing sound financial products [sound in the sense that they pay Devere a big commission, with a smaller percentage for the salesmen themselves] from the worlds largest Banks to British and other expats worldwide.
The calls that many of you are receiving are not Job Offers, they are invitations to apply for a job, this is somewhat different [i.e. what they say is not binding]. Alan, for example (See Above) what be unlikely to get a job offer as he cannot spell.
With regard to Financial Services qualifications, a successful candidate must pass the relevant exams within the country that they are to operate in [wrong]. This involves a lengthy training process within that country [wrong]. The UK exams are not neccesarily relevant abroad [IFA exams are irrelevant as you'll be selling investments using a sales script and your powers of persuasion].
Zuricher (Above) talks naively of 'Tax Evasion' when referring to 'Tax Efficiency'. There is a considerable difference [wrong]. As Zuricher can not understand the difference then he (Or she) is also probably wrong for the job [Zuricher uses his brain].
These jobs are only suited to those who are likely to succeed in Sales [true if you're prepared to bend the truth to get a sale], you'll need a strong work ethic [i.e. work 24/7 trying to cover your expenses and claw back the savings you have already spent] should not neccessarily be looking to improve your lifestyle [i.e. you should have several thousand pounds to back you up and be willing to spend it all if you don't get the sales]. some of the postings are in pretty unglamouress locations [Devere is expanding in Africa]."

    Mr Fuzz
I pulled out today.  Went to the open day with Nigel Green.  Told us that it was hard work and that we would have to give 20% to our coordinator who books appointments. When asked he said that deVere take care of visas and permits.  Went to the interview and did some tests and answered questions.  Found out that all visas, permits etc would be my responsibility and that as well as 20% to the coordinator I would also have to pay for 50% of their rent and their flights!  On top of this I was informed that the office did not have it's own computers ('bring a laptop') and that I would also have to pay towards the office phone bills, printer paper, etc!  The contact they gave me about getting a visa then told me that it would cost me £450 to pay him to get me a Business Visa for Russia.  I told him that it was illegal to actually earn a wage on this Visa (I lived in the former Soviet Union for 2 years previously and speak russian) and he admitted to me that it was illegal but no one would notice.  Too much responsibility on me, legally and financially, and not enough back up from deVere.  If I was 25 and single with £6000 to risk maybe, but married, mortgaged, etc.  No way.  Caveat emptor.

You don't need to pass any exams to sell investments for Devere. CISI corporate membership just helps to reassure clients. It's all about creating the right impression, learning the jargon and sounding convincing. Smoke and mirrors.
