I would just like to add my two cents worth. My wife worked for a company similar to this for about a year. They sold life insurance, investments and all manner of persinal insurance policies. She hated the work. She felt like she was a con artist because people had such negative view of a financial advisor. The reason for that, she learnt is that this type of "commision only" deal often attracts the worst type of cowboy salesmen. True, some of these slimey sneaky basterds earned about GBP50k a month, but they had no regard for the advice they were giving and were just selling the productthat made the most money for themselves. My wife has a legal backround and she was shocked at some of the poor financial advice that was been dished out to people by these so called experts. Of the 15 people who she started her training with only two remain (both female) at the company. Both very succesful and earning about GBP 12k a month already and aiming to join the top guys who are doing GBP 50k a month. But the other 13 who could not do the ruthless selling have gone back to their old jobs. This company continually put people through there ttaining programm, but most fail and give up, but the handful of 100 or so keepers the company finds during this massive turnover of staff are enough to carry a portfolio of millions of pounds. Once again, it all comes down to the individual. You will have to do your own research on the products (because there ARE fantastic finacial products) but i would not rely on a comission only saleman to point those out to me. If you think you can be succesful at this type of selling then good luck to you. But i reckon you have to have a very think skinned, almost stuborn, and slightly arrogant personallity to keep knocking down the resistance of an often sceptical market. Definately not for me at all.

i am not shocked to hear that these products are banned in many countries, i was confused why they didnt have operations in the US where there are obviously lots of expats

Financial Adviser is a good career choice, I just wouldn't be making it with these guys. If you look at who they are trying to attract, its the quick buck salesperson. If you look at what type of client they are trying to reach to, its the uneducated punter who gets caught out on the day by some clever sales pitch that drives the client into making a decision on the spot ( with THEIR life savings and INCOME - INSANE). I guess from reading the other forums the products are all front loaded commission types where the client will have no money left in the event they stop paying in the first 2 years and doesn't take into consideration of their other circumstances like insurance and I would probably guess the fact find is 3 pages. I would dread to see how they work out your risk profile and also if the client has a complaint where do they go? are they informed of their rights and obligations. My recommendation is that anyone dealing with any type of Adviser , when you receive the proposal , to formally thank them even pay them some token but get advice elsewhere to compare. That way you can have peace of mind that at least you shopped the advice and eliminated a few adviser risk concern you can have if you don't see others.

Got a phone call early this year about joining de Vere group. Jumped on a bus from Plymouth and went to their London office. There were about 20 other people in the room, and we were all asked to sign in and register with them (no strings attached so far). There was a presentation on what the group was all about and then a short talk on the highest earning areas worldwide. I must be honest, there was plenty of mention that it was a really tough environment, but that if you were a "Go Getter" you could do really well!!
I was very concerned that the job was a commission only position abroad, as I had just left another country to settle here in the UK with my wife and family> to cut a long story short, I did not go on their training, so I do not know what that entails, but I was told that the training and accommodation was taken care of by the company, same as many local commission only employers here in the UK.
I have heard recently that they have a new strategy and that you can opt for a salary instead of a commission based contract?! is this true, as it would certainly mean that there are better prospects for success on this basis! Does any body know if this is the case??

Got a phonecall 2 weeks ago about joining the deVere graduate program. I attended the preview organised by them and it seem fair in what they were saying. It's not a bed of roses, you have to remember that you are landing in a new place with no leads or contacts and you have to generate them on your own. Furthermore when they were asked about any available warm leads database, they told me to be prepared to start from nothing. Clear so far. Currently they offer 50% return of the first flight fee, 50% of you accommodation is being paid by the consultant (up to 500 pounds) during first month and they give you a retainer of 1000 pounds for first three months. They advise you to have at least one month’s savings in your pocket to make your living out of it. During the interview I was told that usually consultants get first money after 6-8 weeks out of roughly 8-10 clients. Manager, who ran the presentation, claimed to spend 5000 until he started to generate his own income. Yup, it is a sales commission based only work, but it is the same when you are starting up your own business and I compare it to such situation. So in general be prepared to finance yourself during the first 2-3 months. I do not have any knowledge of their products so far but they are going to pay subsidise training to get a CISI qualification. As a coordinator you get 20% of what your consultant is getting, and he receives 5-6% of each deal he closes.
So far I am not discouraged, when you look at it from a distance and get the perspective on what to expect, you can make your own opinion. What is more curious is that they claim to have high rate of dropouts, because people simply can find their place abroad. Within first 2-3 weeks they are in holiday mood and are not much so concerned about the job they are supposed to do. All in all, if you make your own opinion based solely on internet? Then, if you are a graduate how have you managed to graduate? Expect hard work and decent earnings during first year. I’ve got modest plans to earn around 15k during first year; I’ll let you know how it looks later on when I will be send into the field.

i cannot believe what i have read. i recieved a call from them about a graduate scheme last week and got an interview coming up.i  don't think i will go now, i am deeply dissapointed as what i read on the job advert i really though this was my first big oppurtunity.

I must say that I tend to agree with you on a number of points, I just cannot see myself going without an income for 3 months. Based on a Salary offer, I would have thought that the whole idea was not to have to be completely self funding!? Otherwise if I had 5 0r 6K spare lying around, I would not be looking for a well paying job would I. I have asked them directly to answer a few of my concerns, so will see what the response is! will let you know. One thing that seems to come up all the time is the subsidising of the co-ordinators, but who helps the consultants and what are the costs per month all in?

i am totally confused !! went to the presentation done by nigel green and we were told commission only OR £2500.00 per month. have interview in Birmingham tomorrow so i will see just what they have to say.

I have been unfortunate enough to accept a job offer and work for them...for in total 2 days it is all Bs they are failed car salesmen.
Most with very limited intelligence and absolubtly no qualifications ...ok some have a very basic certificate which im sure a 5 year old would pass!!!!
If you have any morality about you what so ever this is not a job for you!!!
The recruitment process was all lies and the talk about you recieving training is lies they will just expect you to cold call for 10 hours of the day and blame you if you do not book appointments.

They are completely unregulated i believe Singapore kicked them out and werte recently on a panorama investigation.

If you have any intelligence do not bother if you just bob about on the spot going ok ok ....then maybe it is for you haha

Oh and no way will you make 150k more likely 20k if you are lucky!!!

Do not do it,they leave because they make no money nothing to do with holiday mood is just sales spin to get you to take the job.
People go there with high expectations...see how it really is and leave if they have any scence!!!!!!
As you will have no specific contract with the company there is no prtection for you...you will just get used abused then leave when your money has run out!!!!

well i am working for devere in zurich! well i sorted out accomodation, everything travel hotel and so much more ! all was cool considering that was for frankfurt ! yeah 2 hours before i went to frankfurt i was told i had to go to zurich ! i was promised my train fare on arrival never got it ! then my advisor said he would pay my rent after speaking directly to a landlord. Then monday morning got a new consulatant who said different. even after frankfurt cost me like 2 grand odd. to rent even the smallest dingiest room inzurich will cost you 600 pound a month before deposit etc. i came out here and haven't even been told my job description nothing at all this is the most foul treatment possible. my references did not even come through and they sent me here. what is going on. what i mean to say is my previous job references were still pending!!!! useless obviously they wanted me out i think maybe because i have an ear missing i dont know but in the mroning i will quit has any one got any advice how i do something about this ?

you are either some sort off freak who is defending them or u have been asked to back up devere or you have been asked to deliberately help back them up

hi jono i have been offered a job in the basel office! i have a basic salary and they are going to pay 50% of my accommodation, how is the zurich office and how is the money?

I have also had a call today about a meeting next Friday. I come from a banking background.
I was offered 2 options, one on purely commision only or the other £30k pa, but only in Dubai or Tokyo...I think they OTE was then capped at around £100k pa.

I'm going to go in to see what they say, however, i am extremely dubious about moving to somewhere like Dubai on only 30 bags a year, for a company i am very unsure of at the moemnt.

Any info, good or bad, would be appreciated.
