I read all this after i had been offered the job, i still went for it as i wanted to find out for myself. people tend to want to tell everyone about a bad experience more than a good one so i thought i'd give it ago.
i'm now in frankfurt studying for my CISI and working as a consultant. i find the working atmosphere amazing, much better than anything i'd found in england. i'm currently living in a shared apartment with two lovely germans who are extremely friendly, i go to work 5 days a week and i enjoy it.
yes its commission only, but i was told that from the start, i earn 20% of what my adviser does, after all i set up all his appointments. i keep his diary, i do all the admin, running our database etc and making sure that each client receives a personal and professional service. the comments about us ripping people off i dont believe, i work for them, i know where my money comes from, we ADVISE the client, no obligaton and no fee, it takes about 5 meetings before we even offer the client a services and inbetween each meeting we're researching our 50,000 products t find whichever one suits the CLIENT best. we do this because we work on a REFERRAL only basis. meaning if your being contacted by us, one of your colleagues is a client and has passed your name to us.

When i arrived here i was picked up from the airport by my advisor and given a tour of where i would now be living, i have been trained since i arrived and will continue to be trained until i no longer need the help, i've had help and advice on accommodation and even company when viewing apartments. i really dont know what everyones so worried and angry about, this kind of job will attract some unsavoury characters, as will any with this level of earning potential, but you cant let one or two individuals tar the reputation of an international company. i know of two recruits who have been fired since i started for there behavior as there is a zero tolerance here, not sure what it may be like in other offices.
if your not willing to work hard and put in the time and effort then this really isnt the job for you, if you are then great go for it, i just wish everyone would stop whining about it and make there own minds up.

Got an invitation to the job seminar/interview in Moscow, the position is the same Financial consultant. The diffrence is that I am Russian based in Moscow so no relocation for me ((( lol! Thank you for your comments, now I remembered the name of the company and the British accent on the phone calling my current companys financial director (An expat!) and selling the "easy money dream")))

Good luck to the volunteers! If you work in any different decent company as hard as you are ought to work in Devere Group you wll be earning 200.000 for sure!

I'm completing my training Friday with the aim to be in Germany by the beginning of February. I'm an English graduate. I've done commission work before, cold calling etc and I have no business experience. Any questions I had were answered to a satisfactory standard and if you've put a cv online you probably will have been called...that's how they found me. I'm generally excited and looking forward to the training and learning something completely new. I reckon it will be hard work but with great potential.
I urge people who get invited to the presentation day, who are not afraid of hard work, to go along to it. See for yourself what you think rather than judge it by comments made here :)

Has anybody been to the actual interview? what was it like? Im going to a presentation next week for the role of finance co-ordinator. I have read all the comments regarding this issue and to be honest, it doesnt matter where you look or at what reputable company, they will allways be bad and good statements from both people who have worked there, people who havent, people saying they rip off customers/clients ect ect. at the end of the day, if we all believed everything we were told by everyone, we wouldnt eat apples, or walk in the street, and plus...... who are the people that are writing the things on here? It was only 6  months ago that Thomas Cook was on WATCHDOG! for ripping people off, but they still get millions upon millions of people holidaying with them every single year even though they are fully aware of them facts. Ive been working self employed comission only jobs for the past 5 years, and they have worked out more than well for me. you do need to be a certain type of person though, self motivated, target driven and very determind. the reason there is potential to earn a hell of a lot more money in comm only jobs than a normal job is because u do need to work damn god hard, but u get out what u put in, its like anything in this world. If you've got the potential and u know youre a good sales person with a hands on appraoch and u know you are a hard worker then go for it because you will earn good money. But dont throw yourself in the deep end, make sure uve done something similar before or know about about the product and the company first because just the thought of moving to a different country and been away from everything you know is enough on its own to take you way out of your comfort zone without having to learn a whole new job and career. everything aside, go for it! as long as u got the money whats to loose? you either dont take the job up and regret the fact you might have missed a fantastic oportunity to earn a hell of alot of money, or take the job and see. loosing 6 months of your life to see if it works is well worth it, because if it does work, you will be set up for the rest of your life.

How do u know? Do you allways listen to other people that u dont know. Dont be stupid, just go to the presentation and see. What if your missing out on a great opportunity and your gunner loose it for the sake of comments! Thomas Cook were on watchdog! 7 months ago but i bet ud still holiday with them wunt you?????????

Hahaha! This made me laugh, Louise called me 3 times, the first time inviting me to an induction day which is this coming Wednesday, the second time she called leaving a message for someone who isn't me, then she called again and I answered and asked to speak to someone who wasn't me... AGAIN! What kind of Head of Recruitment cannot call the right telephone number?

Okay so it was a mistake... but one of my close friends had a job offer, he said the process was super super easy and he got offered a job at the Dubai office on a commission only contract.

Adding to all this sh*t I've read on here I can safely say I'm 100% put off. I have the work ethic of a raging bull, I can work for days like a donkey and am driven by money and success to no end... but I have dignity and thankfully god has blessed me with a decent brain so I'm going to give it a miss, without any regrets.

For those who do choose to go then I wish you all the best, you never know it may be a good company just with a bullsh*t recruitment process??

I have just got your message on my blackberry. i don't understand what's so funny, OK..... i rang you by mistake a couple of times but that is beacuse at devere we have a cold calling system in operation and sometimes the best of us can get confused. Me and my son to be Husband are very dogged....hhhmmmmm.......in every sense of the word. Believe me there many people who are undermining us, but, please give me a chance to help you move to another country set you up with a bunch of blood sucking leeches and the possibility of losing all of your money.

HOWEVER ALWAYS REMEMBER THERE IS A SILVER LINING YOU WILL HAVE YOUR HEALTH INTACT AND ALWAYS THE CHANCE OF BOUNCING BACK.

The opportunity is very real you can earn loads of money but it is a hard environment. The emphasis is on selling not client mangement and retention hence you do not need much knowledge. The training is selling closure not money mangement.

The products are legitimate not scams but have high client costs to accomodate commission so for a client a big downside but hey most term products in the UK you also get screwed.

Failure rate is about 95% from my experience so lots of bad reputation about in the market. Yep you are self employed and responsible for all your costs and the cost of the operation but hey same as running your own business really. In Switzerland you have to be employed.

The tax dodging you can do and other bits in reality will be down to you.

Nigel Green is a charming man but a salesman.

All in all it is a great opportunity, you can earn loads of money but most of the locations are bloody expensive and you are unlikely to make it work long term, most don't. Long term it's unlikely that you will be good for your clients as you won't have the resource and knowledge, but if you don't really care you can fill your boots.

Oh yes I do have the background, the deVere experience and now run my own IFA so I do know what I am saying!

i'm currently applying for a graduate postion, starting as a co-ordinator then ultimately becoming a consulatant. the presentation was interesting but limited in really telling you the facts. I didn't exactly feel like they would bend over backwards if I needed help in a foreign country. also the fact that visa's, flights,accom are down to me doesn't fill me with confidence. The interview was relatively easy to be honest, it felt like they needed me more than i needed them. my lack of any financial background/experience was barely mentioned.

I've now got an assessment day coming up so will reserve final judgement until after this, as i intend to ask few probing questions for my own peace of mind. has anyone done the day before? is it a formality or actually a testing day? any tips would be much appreciated.

all in all i think if im offered a postion i would take it, as i like to make up my own mind on things and never listen to people who failed for whatever reason.

There is no Grad position, you will be expected to make tele calls day in day out and find data and pester people for meetings. In reality you probably not be mature enough if you are say 21/22 to go in to the field to deal with clients who are generally 34+. Not saying you are not mature but that is what I have seen.

If you don't mind 7/8 hours a day pushing for calls on the phone then go for it as it is a very good or hard grounding and you could have a laugh and growing up experience.

It will also depend upon the quality of your consultant as to whether you actually earn any money. It is not a progressive career opportunity but if you have no other work maybe go for it. Watch your costs though as you will usually be the poorest paid expat in an expensive expat area.

Mate if you are a banker you will find the selling environment very very hard, in reality you do not really sell in banks you just push things to existing clients backed by a large name. Dependent upon the banking exoperince you have most of your knowledge will not be relevent.

I did 13 years in banking so this is experience speaking.

Jason - Not all fake promises mate but very much "larged up". You will in Tokoyo be in a bloody expensive city and find it hard to get an apartment etc. You will not earn for two months, face a clawback on all or part of your income for up to 2 years and find it hard to generate income from existing clients for at least a couple of years as you get all the commission upfront.

deVere like all others in this arena get lots of behind the scene income which continues after you leave, so they win always.

They have to mate as you need a permit B if you live in CHF or permit G if you live in France or UK. The average wage for a receptionist there is about 90,000CHF with benefits of pension etc. as it is a bloody expensive place to live. Accomodation is in massive demnand and you will be the bottom of the pile with minimal income. Very complicated place to live in. I know of about 100 people that have tried and left form DVP and others Sovereign, Fund Advisers, Forth etc who ahve not made it work, I only know of a very small few that are still around after 1 year.

I am pleased it is going so well for you. I am surprised the process takes five meetings the training and close is TWO.

There are only two products Regular and Lump Sum. DVP does not have TOB (terms of Business) with 50,000 different funds and no way can you research that amount of collective investments. If you do not use structured funds and ones that DVP has TOB with you will not earn any comms.

Fund comms range 3 - 5 % up front. Fund Trail 0.25 - 1% per annum. Bond fees 5 - 7 % upfront and regular 3% on whole term amount. So you all get a share of that.
