Companies can pay phone providers for access to numbers for market research.
At least that is the reason given to me by B.T

Got a call from this number today stating that they were calling form Barclays doing a customer survey. what is strange is that they asked for me by name. I asked her if I could call her on the regular Barclays number to complete the survey and confirm my details and she told me they "don't have that facility" i declined but at the end of the call she asked if she could contact Barclays to let them know they had tried to call me. We are also registered with the TPS

Just got a call from these people, they asked for me by my name, i said who is calling, they said they were calling on behalf of my phone provider and conducting a survey, i was like why? She was like i would like to speak to..... (Me) is He available, i was like why, do you want to? Then she said if he is not available, we can call back another time, and then hung up. hmm am not registered with any phone providers, as it is in my mums name, how did they get my name, and what gives them the right to call without my permission, this has to be stopped!!!!!!!!!!!!

As soon as they said they were from GFK and were conducting research, I said I was registered with the telephone preference and he politely apologised and said goodbye. It works!

I AM registered with the TPS and I always politely tell people that I am. Mostly they are polite back but others do just hang up.

TPS does not cover research, only Sales calls originating within the UK.        GfkNOP were being unusually courteous.

Phoned me today, said they were GfK NOP and asked for me by name. They said I'd previously answered questions about my finances in my home with one of their bods and asked if I'd be willing to do it again. I said I'd NEVER answered questions about my finances to anyone let alone in my own home! Sounds very dodgy to me.

This number has just rung twice in the last hour. Living in London myself and having the 020 (7) code, I thought it might have been a blast from the past ringing! So I checked my phone book, and then thought I'd run it through a search engine....and thank God I did!  I also have TPS and am ex directory! Why is this annoying invasive crap not monitored! Just lucky I'm slightly antisocial and didn't pick the phone up! LOL :o)

TPS applies ONLY to Sales calls originating in the UK.     Opinion polling is not covered..      Having an ex-Directory number means only that it does not appear in a Directory.      There is nothing whatsoever to stop such calls being made to you.     Phone Operators love them as they make them money.

If you are so stressed may I suggest that you look up details of any offending caller on the Web.    Find the numbers of their Directors and call them at home to explain why you are unhappy.

For GfkNOP you will find that their Operators are under specific instruction to remove numbers of anyone requesting such action.    You would need to answer one time and tell them so.

I have no connection with GfkNOP other than making damn sure they will not ever call my number again.

Received 3 calls today from GFKNOP - only in for third one, enquiring about bank preferences.
They were aware of which bank I used, but were unable to say how they got this info. I am
registered with TPS and I am also familiar with banking practice and opinion polling - banks will not contact customers through third parties.. Similarly genuine polling firms would not cold call- these are not random calls they are targetted. DO NOT REVEAL ANY INFO TO THEM. I am contacting my bank to info them of what is being done in their name.

I received a call from this company at 20:07 on friday.  I am e directory and tps listed and not on the elctoral role and they asked for me by name!!.  I have written to them asking where they obtained my details.  I have not consented for them to be realsesed and am not with barclays.  If they have been appointed by someone i want to know who and some one is going to get allmight [***].  I have written to them and we will see what happens.  If not not i will have to do what i did to the last company who told me shove my phone up my [***], harrass them with 800 calls a day from my fax

I have lodged a complaint with GFK and they have been most helpfull offering to provide the identity of there client.  I awaite there response for the client is the true culprit with whome i have entrusted my details and who has released it without my consent
