Don't know who it is, but the numbering range 0207 890xxxx is allocated to MCI WorldCom Ltd. They are notorious for allowing nuisance callers to use their serice, so I don't think you will get far complaining to them. You could try OFCOM, but I don't know if they will be much better. Sorry to be a pessimist. It is likely to be in the area around Feltham - ie near Heathrow.

This is GFK NOP conducting Market Research.  Just asked some very generic questions not really pertaining to matter in hand.  Maybe a front for identity theft - testing the vunderabilty of the person they call.

Received a call today at 6.35. My mum answered the phone and kept asking who was calling but nobody said anything. Received another call at 8.30pm which my dad answered. The man on the phone said he was calling from Halifax/Bank of Scotland. He knew his full name and asked him to verify his email address. My dad refused to give any details. When i went on the phone asking what the call related to the man put the phone down but his voice sounded like he was drugged up or something. Definatly a dodgy call. When i rang the number back automatic message saying 'Hello you have been contacted by GFK NOP ncarrying out some market research.'

Maybe the number should be reported to Offcom?

My daughter got a call tonight on our house phone from a company on 0207 8909 051 saying they were doing a survey on behalf of Lloyds TSB and started asking her questions about credit cards and Mortgages. I took the phone off her and gave him a piece of my mind ! I checked with LTSB and they said they do commission these surveys. This is so unprofessional especiually when they cant identify themselves and LTSB have messages all over their website saying dont give out any details to callers like this.

02078909051 is a number belonging to the market research company GfK NOP.  They have two telephone centres in the UK from which telephone surveys are carried out.  If you are called from the central London telephone centre, 02078909051 is the caller ID you will see on your phone.  GfK NOP is a genuine market research company, one of the biggest in the UK.  They do not do telemarketing  and they are fully signed up to the data protection act.  They have an annual turnover of over £80 million in the UK and their main office is Ludgate House, 245 Blackfriars Road, London SE1 9UL.  They carry out research for commercial sector clients (businesses), central government departments and other organisations.

guy said he was from Halifax/Royal Bank of Scotland and asked if I would take part in a surevy. I said ok he asked which one I banked with I replied neither and he suddenly said they had had enough replies from other people anyway and was sorry to bother me.....if he had had enough responses why was he calling anyway VERY SUSS!!!!! I would be very careful if they call you and ask for any bank details!

Had a call from this number and they hung up once I answered (female).  Did 1471 to get the number.

Called claiming to be from the department of schools and children wanting to talk to parents of school age children. Makes a change from pretending to be a bank!!!!.

These survey organisations are not obliged to stick to the rules of the TPS because they are not selling anything. However, persistent calling amounts to harassment.  If you tell them to stop calling they must stop immediately. Any breach of that is a breach of the law, and should be reported both to OFCOM and to the police.

just got this number myself. just after 5pm on a sunday!!!!! am pretty annoyed!

just got a call wanting to speak to the "person who deals with business banking"  - caller gave full name and said they were from gfknop - ringing on behalf of hsbc. i said i didn't have time and wouldn't be able to assist - rang 1471 to get the number. am pretty sure we opted out of this kind of thing when we signed up with the bank

I also just got a call at work from this number. Man said that they were carrying out market research for HSBC, and would take 10-15 minutes to answer, but I declined to continue the survey.

Just been called by this number as part of a government survey the woman asked me if I could answer some questions about health and safety in the work place, I said no, I’m blaming Brown this never happened to me under Blair

Call from this number earlier today - wanting me to answer some questions from some sort of survey - no thanks.

Got a call today from a guy said he was from GFK NOP and wanted to ask questions about Education Works and Pensions. Told him I was registered with TPS and didn't take these calls. He said the calls were random number generated and that they didn't have to comply with TPS. He then slammed the phone down on me. I'm making an official complaint to OFCOM, don't know if will do any good but these parasites need teaching a lesson.
