Telephone scam: Supposed pharmaceutical company selling rose hip tablets to arthritis sufferers during bogus calls

Posted: Thu 20th Sep 2012 12:47pm By MattB

A local resident has received an unsolicited telephone call from a lady allegedly from a pharmaceutical company saying she had been given her details because she suffers from arthritis.

The caller advised the householder not to eat citrus fruits as they can aggravate the arthritis and then went on to promote the sale of rose Hip tablets.

She went on to say that she could supply 30 rose hip tablets for £40, but if the resident supplied her bank card details immediately to the caller they could supply the tables for a special price of £15.

The householder asked for the company's name and details, but was told that she didn't need them as the company would contact the resident again.

Fortunately, she did not give her bank details as her daughter deals with her finances.

Always be wary of unsolicited telephone calls. Never give out your bank details.

Never buy from unknown sources as the goods may be dangerous as they may not have gone through the appropriate safety methods of testing.

You can register your details with the Telephone Preference Service free of charge to stop unwanted telephone calls. Click on the link below:

I have just checked my mother's bank statement and there are 2 debits on the same day of £225.00 and £20.50 to Sandawellbeing. My mother has no recollection of this but as she is being treated for Alzheimers and Dementia, this is not surprising. She does have a bank card which she keeps so that other members of the family can help her with shopping, oterhwise all transactions are done by myself. We did think this was not a risk as she can no longer remember her pin code. Unfortunately it looks like the caller from Sandawellbeing has talked her into finding this card and then reading out all the relevant numbers as this does not require the pincode. She is also registered under the TPS so she should not have received the call in the first place.
I have telephoned and sent an email demanding an instant refund. I await their response. Having read so many similar comments on this site I can't believe action has not been taken against this company.

My Mother who is 85 has been called by this company & was talked into parting with £55 from her debit card for these rosehip tablets. We have now cancelled her card - one week later the tablets have arrived & I now have the task of returning them & to get her money back but they have taken £5.50 postage & packing which I doubt they will refund plus the cost of returning them!!!
How can we stop these cold calls to gullable senior citizens?

    Dear Paul,

I would happily look into your matter directly.  Please contact me on complaints@sandawellbeing.com and mention this forum and it will get sorted.  the same goes for all who are on here.  we have had this UK managed email box for over a year now and rarely get more than a single email a month which gets dealt with promptly.

My mother has just fallen victim to the same company,SandaWellness.
They cold called her and talked her into buying some of their RoseX tablets telling her they would send her six months supply for £68.00.
An unmarked box arrived by currier and inside was 12 boxes of the so called RoseX tablets,30 in each box.
A years supply, which was not requested, they also expire half way through 2013...
    Then of came the price...£184.90.
I have emailed them requesting the order be cancelled and a refund made but as you can guess....
Don't fall victim to these unscrupulous people....

    Hi Bali Bailey,

I have no intention of repeating my complaint, Jane your Customer Services Manager is fully aware of my complaint, which is about breach of verbal contract as well as the mis selling of goods. Please see my posts on PG 37.

As you should be aware, I have submitted a 2nd letter of complaint with a cut off date for a response from your company of 21st December 2012.

I have submitted this letter having taken legal advice & I have requested a copy of all your company's  voice recorded conversations that have taken place with my 80yr old father.

I also have evidence of the totally inflated prices that you have charged my father, which is fully outlined in both my letters of complaint.

Incidently my father is currently in hospital having suffered a heart attack.

I have fully explained myself to Jane why I won't give your company my contact details and she has totally refused to give me any details of a Senior Manager. In the 2nd letter I have made it perfectly clear that I would like a response in writing to my fathers address.

I spent 32yrs as a career Detective, of rank, investigating the most serious of crime and I still find it hard to believe that companies like yours exist, that prey and bully the elderly vulnerable members of our community and intimidate them, when they are not able to defend themselves into disclosing bank details, so you can basically rip them off.

I am sure that I speak on behalf of many hundreds of people who have complained bitterly about your unethical and morally wrong company tactics.

Most decent law abiding members of society I am sure would agree, what you do to these poor vulnerable people is the lowest of the low, without showing any respect.

As you can probably gather, I am not very happy with the whole situation and it appears to me that you only have one goal in mind and that is to make as much money as possible by using these unscrupulous tactics.

I don't know how you can sleep at nights with a clear conscience.

I can tell that many people have been extremely upset by your company tactics, it's all over the internet and I hope that many of them read my post.

Don't worry folks, I for one do not intend to give up easily with my complaint against Sandawellbeing.com, I intend to fight it all the way for the sake of my 80yr vulnerable father and every other elderly vulnerable adult
that has fallen into this unfortunate trap.

Perhaps Bali Bailey as a Senoir person of the company may like to explain to people on this forum, why Sandawelling changed its name on 6th November 2012 to Natural Wellness Products Limited, is it anything to do with the tactics you use ?

Bali, thanks for inviting me to complain, perhaps the reason you only have one email a month is because once again, your company don't operate with any ethical standards in place, certainly from my experience your Customer Service Manager won't give any details of a Senior Manager to speak to.

I hope you are able to resolve not only my problem but everybody else's.

I can assure you that I won't give up easily on behalf of my father, I have very strong morals and ethics and if it ends up in Court or all over the media so be it.

I think I have my point perfectly clear.
