Two calls this evening. I had reported a line down to BT (via TALKTALK). Fixed this a.m., but I am sure BT would not behave like this, so not sure if it is related. However, there is a warning when you dial "1471" that dialling this number will incur a charge ....

Does anyone know if Ofcom actually do anything about these silent numbers?
And the link to OFcom seems to be dead now.
Is there any help - apart from buying a product to block set telephone numbers

It's the Mossad

It's an indian/pakistani accent and they often claim to be called something improbable like Stuart or Debbie!! Even though their English is incredibly poor. I've resorted to slamming down the phone and being abusive.  It doesn't stop the calls (I've tried asking them to remove my number from their lists) but it makes you feel a lot better!

Constant harrassment from these people - they are based in india/pakistan or somewhere as most of their operatives have virtually no understanding of English, very thick accents, but all claim to be called improbable names like (and I quote), Sean, Martin, Debbie, Susan ...they always ask for someone who doesn't live here and then bang on about debt problems, even though I tell them they have the wrong number, I don't have debt problems, and I don't want to speak to them.
Shouting abuse and slamming down the phone doesn't get them off your back, but it does make you feel a lot better - I have reported the number to ofcom so let's hope if we all do the same they eventually shut them down!

This number has been calling from 16:00hrs till late daily, dont bother answering the phone as they dont speak when you do.  Why dont these people get a life, doesn't matter what day you call its always going to be me who answers the phone as its my bloody phone.!!!!!!!

Received several calls over the last 2 days from this number. Female with foreign accent says 'hello' a couple of times and then hangs up.

I have received several calls a day from this number for a week now.  When I answer there is a few seconds of silence then they hang up.  This is totally annoying and unnerving.

Same as all on this site. Calls twice or three times a day over the past three weeks. Did not respond to return call as we were concerned it maybe a scam. Probability as someone has suggested it was computer generated. They should be stopped as they are a complete nuisance.

We have started receiving calls from this number for the past week now, one to two calls per day.  When we answer the phone, the line goes dead.  Does anyone know who this number belongs to and why they hang up when we answer?  Since other people have reported problems re this phone number, I assume it is not a prank directed at us personally.

these people are an Indian call centre who are chasing bed debts.
It is fake... when you ask for the manager or the name of the company they will hang up on you...

second call today did pick up they ended the call and tried to ring back number not recgognised

sick of getting these calls, I  even paid for a company to stop them in April. in the past fortnight We have had 5 in one day ,and umpteen others. I am going to contact the company I have paid and find out what is NOT happening.
