The calls to me, took a very sinister turn after I "rejected " their attentions , in the form of several calls one after another with obscene expletives aimed at me and my wife - changing our phone number tomorrow.

Heres a bit of research I have done via a very helpful company called Magrathea.
This is call identity spoofing, the original owners of this number having given it up some months ago.
I'm told that the best way to deal with it is to contact your telepohone provider and ask them to trace the true network now using this number. Log it as a nusiance call.
023 numbers can be purchsed from a variety of telecom providers to make those calling appear local, etc.

I have a [***] alarm very effective when put near the phone. I am getting calls everyday. So annoying.

This is a PPI claim call.  They use an Asian call centre. I have been called 6 times and spoken to them twice, normally the call is silent. Just swear at them is the easiest way and most fun.  I think they use a power dialler system and the first to answer gets the agent, otherwise it goes silent, which is illegal.

They are calling on behalf of a UK company which means they are subject to UK law

caller says that i am owed £1700 pound back from a loan of £5.000 i had supposedly took out some years ago when i say i never had a loan he hangs up

This was regarding PPI claims. It sounded as if it was from India and they connected me to a claims advisor Chris Tyler.

I have seen this number recorded on my phone several times over a number of weeks & am not normally around to answer.

I was today (16-Oct-12) & according to their records I 'apparently' I took out a loan of £5500 in 2005 until 2008.  I said I had not + have never taken out PPI & the caller (Asian accent) said it would have been included within the loan, which is rubbish - you've always had the option to take it out on top as far as I am aware ?!  

As I re-iterated that I had not not taken out a loan the annoying idiot hung up on me.

If it was a national UK number I would have redialled them & returned the favour, assuming they do not block all incoming calls.

This PPI 'issue' just goes on & on & on - normally they are 08434 numbers at least twice daily which are ignored if I am at home.

I wonder if anything is being done in the background to stop these rip off merchants/scum/other explitives as used in other people's comments ... ?!

these [***] have been calling for 4 months now at least three times a day,i'm ex directory and on tps register....going to block it with phone company,might as well try...

This number calls me three times a day and is really getting on my nerves, i tried calling back but can't get through! no one speaks.  I'm also registered with TPS and it seems to make no difference!

yeah, i've tried calling them back too, and just tried calling them from another number, and i don't even get a disconnected sound!

Rang 18:20. Asked for my landlord by name. When I said he was not here, could I take a message? she said thank you. Line stayed open, sounds like a pub in the background.

No answer the other end,what exactly are these people up to ? checking to see whether you are in at certain times,they are a nuisance and block genuine incoming calls,forget TPS that does not work,government should step in and take action against these stupid people.

yet another call sometimes nobody there or they ask for me I have been putting the phone next to my woofer up on full volume since then I don't get many calls other times I leave the phone on the floor and we have a good mess around shouting out mummy daddy in a childs voice good fun to piss them off if you have nothing to do. used to get up to 3 calls a day then nothing for a few weeks its just started again oops the phone slipped again next to the woofer on full volume    do try it
