had loads of missed calls from this number so decided to ring them to find out what is going on.rung them and the operator says "sorry the number you are trying to call has not been recognised please check and try again"
what i don,t get is if this number don,t exist then how can some one ring me from this number?

They use a cellphone app or software to change the number that appears on your caller ID (spoofing).

If they are calling your smartphone, look in your app store for free call-blockers-there should be several available-then open the app, enter the number and click Save or Submit. For cellphones, let the phone ring until the caller hangs up, then delete the message without listening to it.

For landlines, call your service provider to block the call or have it traced-you will be charged for both services, but the trace is more expensive.

Numerous silent calls from this number. Latest 14:13 18/12/2012. Attempted to dial this number back but got "Number not recognised" message.

ECS called from the number above saying that I have taken a loan from a UK financial company and have about £1500 in PPI to get back. Probably a scam call.

This number is calling me almost every day. No answer if you pick it up.

Twice today and, infuriatingly, it knocks out my internet connection.

Caller rang today asked for my mother by name - when I said I was daughter they hung up - obviously target was my elderly mother - I will take this further.

Answered call and they hung up.

This is one of several numbers that plague us.

Have had several calls from this number, I have caller ID so I let it go to the answer machine they put
the phone down without speaking.  I am registered with the.TPS but this does not stop all marketing calls

Sick of this number ringing me about 6 times a day either noone there or they ask for some one who doesn't does not live here

2 calls from this number - first silent, second man with thick accent - said  had overpaid £1900 - told him I wasn't stupid and to go away - hopefully they will remove my number from their system.  I report this type of call to the Information Commissioners Office - ico.gov.uk. and the number of nuisance calls has reduced.

As with many other people, this number rings at least twice a day, usually around lunch and dinner time. When anwered they just hang up. Notice today when ut rang I lost my broadband connection too. Just reported it to IOC

Trying to tell me it's not for PPI but to get money back on my loan for a car which I never had as I had a company car!!

Indian Gentleman goes by name of Jason - seemed to know all about a loan I supposedly took out in 2005 with PPI. Wanted to help me reclaim it. Number is unobtainable when you call it back. Surely BT should not be allowing this. Pain in the *ss.

Called by this number just now. Didn't answer it. No message left. No surprise really.

Called twice today. The first time, he asked for me by name, and knew my address and postcode.  He said He's from the insurance refunds department and I was owed 1000 pounds refund. However, they didn't know which company the loan was from so I hung up. Clearly it's a scam.

The caller knew my name and said he was calling about my refund.  I asked him to send me a cheque but, eventually, I had to hang up.  This is not the first time I've received such a call.
