- Miw replies to still workingEveryone gets through and invited back.
They make you PAY for daily bus passes and train tickets to go to places they send you.
That is wrong and against the law.
Other than that however, nothing else they do is against the law because they found a loop hole, which involves you signing a contract saying they have no responsibility for you and you are not entitled to minimum wage.
It's legal, but its evil. The Job Centre actually told me not to go for the observation day, and most other people's will do the same. - JuiceYou will not achieve minimum wage with SMG Solutions, one of my team leaders had no money in his bank and only made 2 sales every 3 days. You will be brainwashed in atmosphere by loud music and high fives, and 'impacts' (meetings) with people shouting 'JUICE' (join us in creating energy) to drown out new people or 'negs' (anyone who shows any dissent). Everyone there believes that they will be promoted beyond their wildest dreams at any second to management, while I was there only one person was an assistant manager (being trained for management), this person will then move to another part of the country and begin the process there.
Nobody (except the manager and assistant manager) has been there more than 4 months, this is a telling sign. You will not be made aware that it is door-to-door selling, 100% commission based pay until you are whisked away on the observation day to some other part of the country. There will be days, perhaps a succession of days, where you will earn no money whatsoever, for what could be 10-12 hours work. The hours are also longer than you are told in the interview, you will have to be there slightly after 11AM, and you won't be leaving until at least 10PM, and some days it could be closer to 12.
Everyone who applies is offered the job. The assistant manager will give you some spiel about the many applicants they have who are very qualified for so few positions (one person in competition with me apparently had a Masters Degree in Marketing, so why was I offered the job?), yet the position is never filled because new observation day candidates are interviewed all the time as the manager has to recruit rigorously as people will leave every day or not accept the job.
You will be made to sign an agreement that states that you are self-employed, this is a loophole which allows them not to pay you a basic minimum wage, and not to cover your expenses. If you reach team leader, you will find yourself on business trips to Newcastle/Glasgow or wherever, where you are expected to pay out of your own pocket for fuel and food.
If this post hasn't done enough to put you off 'working' for this company, then apply for the job, just say goodbye to your social life and self-respect.- Caller: SMG Solutions

- lovedoingresearch!Don't think I'll be calling these back to arrange an interview!!!
- experience| 1 replyI love coming on here and reading these things so many complaints so many people moaning that they made very little money Ect well let me explain it to you like this
Self employed means you work for yourself anybody out there who runs their own biz a pub restraunt a small construction company can either make slot of money or they don't they only get paid on what they put in if they were to sit on their [***] all day and wait for it to come they are going to make nothing.
Company like these at least help train you in the skill needed that give you that opportunity to make something different of yourself and a chance to make your own money
Ever heard of Avon or forever living big companys advertise jobs on TV actually they don't they say if your are intrested in joining then vet in touch it's all the same
My advise is to anyone who has just changed their mind about this has just been caught up in all the people who were to lazy to get off their [***] and work hard- Caller: all
- Neg replies to experienceHow much are they paying you to write this crap? AVON doesn't make you work 12 hour days for no pay. You call friends and family to sell to them. Your advert said that there is no hard sell, well there is! Unlike Avon, which will deliver a sale from every journey, there is a high chance that your faraway journeys will yield no apps whatsoever with SMG Solutions. The fact that you keep coming on here to post is really pathetic.
- HeatherMy daughter is working for Shem in the Coventry based smg after reading these comments I'm appaulled. She is currently on a road trip which I have paid for. I will be showing her these comments when she returns as after 3weeks she still has not been paid xxxx
- Used to work here, recentlyI worked here for about 3 months, and i have to say for me it was awful the people who work there are all great and you do learn marketing techniques which are handy but unless you have the gift of the gab you will not do well, some people would earn over 500 pound a week, as long as you dont mind going to the office at 11am and getting home around ten spending most of that time running round knocking doors in the rain! But all of a sudden i supposedly kept getting cancelations meaning i didnt get paid.. Awful one week i earnt 40 quid for doing a 50 hour week , such a waste of time, you should see the amount of people that come and go in that nuisness they employ absolutely everybody.. If you go for the interview you get offered the job its that simple because at the end of the day your costing them nothing! Dont get me wrong it can be fun some days but you do get very tired and bored of it! And in my eyes getting promoted to team leader is the worst part meaning you work from 10am until around 11 at night, still on commision only, then you get to assistant manages and your still on comission only! Do not do this!!!!! Unless you can afford to pay 5 pound travel a day and 5 pound lunch a day and walk around in the rain getting doors shut in your face! Working long hours, because trust me that goes on for around a year! Yet to see or hear of anybody in the coventry office that has completed the programme, it says it all! Xx
- ... replies to AmySimilar to the persons above I applied for a job with SMG solutions in Coventry and was contacted the following day for an interview. I attended the interview and was immediately put off because of the dinge setting and the general ambiance. At first I could not find the building and rang SMG, unbeknown to me I was outside SMG but when I quoted the building a few doors down the woman told me she had no idea where I was. How could they have been based in that office for years and not know about their surrounding buildings and businesses?
As I waited to be called for my interview I spoke to the "receptionist" who was very stand offish and did not want to answer my questions. The office was shabby however the managers room was fully equipped with a flat screen tv and a play station. He didn't ask much about my experience but told me about how quickly you could progress in this job. I was under the impression this was a paid job which it clearly wasn't-false advertisement. When I began asking the manager about how he planned on expanding his company amongst various other questions he became very rude and defensive. It became clear he was threatened by my questions and my presence. I explained to him I enjoyed a challenge and hated idle workers to which me replied "I'm lazy, you would hate me". Are those really the sentiments of a "director"???
I was told I would be contacted later that day or the following day, unsurprisingly I was not contacted. I put this down to the fact that he did not like my questions and the fact I had fully researched this company.
This company is a joke, the manager is a con artist. This role is advertised as a sales / marketing role but it most definately is not.
Name and shame these companies!!!!!!!!!
SMG SOLUTIONS Coventry is somewhere I would avoid if I was you!! I wasted half a day and travelled 30 miles for no reason. AVOID such jobs and scams - The1
- Mike WordleyI applied for this job on Friday and got a call
On late Saturday afternoon for a interview. I had my suspicions early on by the way the guy was speaking on the phone as he was reading from a scripted paper. After reading all these comments I'm sure I won't be attending the interview! Thanks guys, if helps to do your research a little bit prior.- Caller: Smg
- AsHappyAsLarry replies to Back in a wamer countryI was a bit unsure weather to turn up to the interview with SMG SOLUTIONS in Coventry today after reading your post on here. I decided to go along anyway and everything that was written on here was mirrored in the interview oh and guess who interviewed me? 'Shem'... I don t think I will go to the trial day tomorrow. Thanks for the warning! :)

- pdidI went for an interview today at a company called Open Advertising based in Manchester. My interview was conducted by a guy called Matthew Goodchild and he pretty much sold me this story about the company starting operating in 2007 with just 6 offices in the UK and that now it operates in over 150 all over the UK and has got offices in Madrid, Lisbon, Milan etc etc. I got there and filled out a form in a waiting room with 6 to 8 more people. With ages ranging from over 50's to early 20's. At the interview, this guy Matthew didnt go through my CV, did not ask me many questions and just explained that inbetween 6 to 10 months he wants to turn me into a manager. He said he was seeing 46 people that day out of wich he would be choosing 6/8 for an observation day on Monday to then decide the 2 candidates he would take on board. The interview must have not taken more than 10 minutes. I think I was sat longer in the waiting room then I was actually in the office with him. He told me he would let me know at 5/6pm that evening if I was one of the "lucky ones". For my great surprise, as I dont have any experience in sales nor I thought the so called "interview" went that well as I barely had time to say anything, his assistant claire (which is put down as head of recruitment on this company website) calls me telling me she has good news and they want to see me on Monday (bank holiday) for an observation day between 12am and 8pm to go and talk with clients and see how a day working with them is.
This is their website http://openadvertising.co.uk/
This is the Matthew Goodchild guy twitter acount https://twitter.com/mattgoodchild11
My question is. Should I even bother go there on Monday? By what im reading here I probably wont, but I havent seen the name of this company been put down so im just wondering! Thank you! - Ross
