Calls received from this number are generally calls from overseas, that are routed to your phone through a Australia network based in Sydney thus this local number is displayed.

i've been getting calls from this number ever since i filled in a survey with my mobile number. they've been calling at 9am and 10/11pm. they have stopped calling for 4 days and instead i've been getting calls from new numbers, 02-8114-3800 and 02-4908-7100.

Just had a call from my father calling from a BT landline in the UK which showed up as 0282094700 on my Aussie Vodafone mobile.  Very strange.  Every other time the Caller ID has worked and correctly identified his UK number.

Just got a missed call from this number.

Out of coincidence, I did just recently try to verify my number with the website Twitter a few days ago.

Anyone else just joined twitter before getting this call?
When I called it back it said the number was disconnected.

Got two calls just then asking for my full name, assigned to a company I used to work for saying he was calling from Dell re an EMC SAn issue & did I have a few minutes to discuss the issue? Didnt' give a name, repeated he was from Dell computers when asked & also reconfirmed my name.
Wasn't overly clear with what he wanted to discuss & I passed on the number of reception for my prevous compant thinking it was legitimate before looking the number up & finding this page!
Very heavy Indian accent, most likely calling from some call centre.

In addition to my last note, having read the above, it may be likely that all legitmate calls from O/S (as well as doggy ones) show as this number when calling to a vodafone handset.

I had a call on this today, took the call, but it was a vendor I deal with in the US.
They use VOIP, so I'm guessing that the number here is a local outlet for VOIP based calls, and calling cards too, that I believe use VOIP equivalent technology to keep costs at a minimum.

I have received a couple of calls, and actually got a message from a company in USA.  I think calls from abroad are somehow diverted through a Sydney number, as I have also had calls from South Africa which show up on my caller id as (02)82 numbers (Sydney)

i've been getting calls from a private number , when i pick up , they stay quiet, then they hang up , then they called 4 times again  from a private number and i did not pick up .because i wasn't replying to private phone calls they called with a number that was shown 02-82094700 , when i pickep up , they did the same thing , they stayed quiet then they hanged up. They did this all night , from 3 in the morning till 8 inthe morning , they did not leave alone , and they still do it to me every now and then.

I tried to call that number , and it won't go through , it tells me that the network is busy.
Its getting so annoying and stressing something should be done about that.

i had been getting calls from this number for a while a few months ago and someone told be to put my name on the do not call list which i did. after that the calls stopped untill tonight when i got a call from a private number but the line was really bad, breaking up. it was a guy and the girl and they sounded like they were from the uk. i thought it was a prank so i satyed on the line and they kept saying anna anna anna.

when i hung up i got 7 calls from this number and each time they didnt say anything then 4 calls from the number 00011876000. what the [***]...

I'm from Perth, WA. I just got a call from 02-8209-4700 at 7.30am. I only heard a zipping sound in the background. I tried to google the number but I only got this thread and 2 more threads.

Who is this ghost? I`m sick and tired of his/her/its games.  Got 10 calls and 5 of them were night ones.

When I received an international call from a family member in the UK that was made through a phone card for a very cheap rate, this is the number it came through (02-8209-4700).  If it comes during early hours, it may be someone calling cheaply from India (or somewhere internationally) trying to market something.

Yeah, my girlfriend calls me from Thailand on her mobile, but for some reason this number shows up, 028 is the first three numbers in any bangkok landline, whether or not this holds relevance, i'm not sure. The number shows up on her phone when I call her too. I call her from brisvegas on payphones using call cards, go figure
