- JamesI got a letter from the Pension Service to say they would call me today to make sure I was getting the right amount of Pension Credit. I had a missed call from this number, when I rang it back I got a recorded message saying I had been called by the Pension Service, and if they needed to speak to me they would call me back. I rang the 0845 on the letter I had received and told them I had had a missed call from them and they said not to worry, they would be sending out a form to confirm my circumstances. This is definitely the Pension Service.
- Caller: Pension Service

- KateRecently lost my husband and had not told the Pension /Tax people.
I got a call on a Saturday morning from the Pension Service - the lady knew all my husband's details - date of death etc which had not been announced in the papers. I did not live with him,
The Registrars department had informed Works and Pensions.
She checked we were not divorced and said I would get increase in my pension.
I got the increase and it was backdated so this number 08000232076 is the Pension Service.- Caller: The Pension Service
- Call type: Non-profit organization
- martinei have had in the space of te last hour 10 calls from this number no identity and a fax tone when answering every day i come home and my answer hone is full who in the hell is this and why are they persistently calling ?????
- Caller: no identity given
- kindredspiritI received three calls in five minutes today, didn't answer as I thought it was yet another nuisance sales call.I then rang the number back which revealed it was the pension service and that they would try and call back later. Having then checked the number 08000232076 on this page and seen the comments that it is a scam, I can confirm that it is actually the DWP pension service and it was a legitimate call, I have spoken to them on the DWP pension service number given on correspondence to myself from that department, and they have told me that the number mentioned above is a call out number from them it is not meant to be able to call them back on, and they did tell me they would ring again tomorrow from the correct department.
- Caller: pension service
- Call type: Non-profit organization
- Ross replies to MichelleNot necessarily so - they work until 8pm and will only speak to the person involved as is correct
- twigLegit!
DWP - just spent ages with them sorting out my state pension.
They called out from 08000232076 but left a message on my answer phone to phone back on 08007317898.- Caller: DWP
- Call type: Non-profit organization
- Geoffrey PoundA lady called my wife yesterday saying she was from the Pensions Service in Swansea . She told my wife she would call back tomorrow.
- chris replies to DavidI have just rung back this number back and it is dwp pensions !!!!!!
- fuzzylindaReceived a call from this number ten minutes after my husband had contacted The Pension Service on their official number. I know for a fact they would not cold call if this number is meant to be from this dept., and would only call if they say they would be calling by a certain date. Could this be spam!!
Are they able to monitor our call to the department - this does not sound good if they can. - Tony THad a call from this number . They asked me twice to confirm my name, I asked them twice to state what it was in connection with, THey hung up. Sad as I am expecting a call from DWP !!!!!!!!!!
- Tony TFurther to yesterday's comment. I phoned DWP on their provided number ( 0800731 7898 - excellent service ) and they stated that they would never call anyone and NOT identify themselves.
- superfix61cContacted Pension Service, using number from DWP website.
Asked them to call me back, and lo and behold 08000232076.
So it is genuine.
In my case I had switched fuel supplier to British Gas, and some numpty
took over the wrong house ! It has taken me several weeks to untangle the mess.
But it appears that the address thing has set off alarm bells in DWP, and my
state pension was stopped. Which was why they were calling me.
So the a/m telephone number is genuine, but use your local DWP phone
number to call them back.- Caller: DWP
- Kath| 1 replyI don't care how many people say that this number is genuine, I still have my suspicions. We had a voice message today from this number for my husband asking him to ring another number about his 'State Pension query'.
My husband has NO query about his State Pension and has NOT written, emailed or telephoned the Pension Service. If they wanted to contact him they have our address. Surely they don't expect people to ring an unknown number and discuss confidential personal matters in these days of so many spam phone calls?! I thought that they would always write.
Needless to say he is ignoring this message.- Caller: Unknown
- AndyI had several calls from this number and when I returned the call , a recorded message said that the pension service had called me but I was out .
Treat with care , don't give out any personal information, best still don't answer or return calls - PT109| 1 replyThis IS a genuine number. It is the Fraud section of the DWP making random checks to ensure that claimants are who they say they are and are not making fraudulent claims or have not died or moved address. They are also checking that claimants are claiming what they are entitled to.
- Caller: DWP
- Dwp Employee replies to PT109This outbound number can be used for multiple reasons. I.e to check the details held regarding your state pension/pension credit are correct, to complete the claims process if you are approaching state pension age, to validate your address if the post office has returned mail to the DWP (which will eventually lead to payments being suspended if you do not take action), or to validate any change of circumstances reported to the DWP by another government agency.
Any employee of the Pension Service will need to ask you a random set of security questions to validate your identity even if they call you! Remember, they have just called a telephone number, they have no idea if it's you on the other end of the phone, if they just assumed that it's you and took new bank details I'm sure you would be straight of the phone complaining about the lack of security.
Just remember, if you are concerned about the call, tell the agent that you will call back on the published Pension Service telephone number (08456060265) to discuss the issue. The agent will put notes on your account to assist the operator you speak with when you call back.
In conclusion, it pays to know that (contrary to popular belief) Pension Service staff are poorly paid and over worked, they are trying to help you BUT you need to help yourself as we'll, don't give them a hard time !!
Footnote: Always try to call the 0845 number from a landline phone, the system works by recognising your area code and routing your call to the pension office who deals with your geographical location (each regional centre deals with a set area and not usually the area in which they are based)
