Got several missed called from this number during the day - no message. When I picked up they claimed to be from Barclays wanting to talk about account security developments. First security question - my date of birth - I asked how I could be sure this was Barclays and would prefer not to answer the question. The guy started waffling - I hung up.

Opened a Barclays additions account a couple of weeks ago. The banker told me that I would get a phone call from Barclays to check that the banker had done his job properly and told me about all the terms and conditions etc.

    Just had a call from 0800 085 2652.
I didn't answer the call because I don't answer the phone if I don't know who it is.
Just mentioning this because having read this page and peoples supispion that the caller is a scam, I guess it is actually Barclays calling as I am due a phone call from them. Either that or a big coincidence.
Just my thoughts, hope it makes sense.

Just recieved a call from this number...

As previous posters have said, they said they were Barclays, asked for DOB an last two letters of Mother's Maiden name... Claimed that they need to check/update details of the account holder...

Did seem to know various information relating to the account - i.e. that I'm a Doctor and fairly young...

When asked to confirm that they were Barclays, complained that they were having system problems... We willing to reveal part of card numbers for expiry dates and sort codes - but I claimed I had no access to them...

Caller then said, and I quite, "oh well you've got off lightly then", wished me good day and hung up.

Two calls, one while we were out last week, another yesterday evening, when we declined to proceed.  Called the number back today, using 141 of course, and a pleasantly-spoken machine announced herself as Barclays (not Barclays Bank, which one might have expected) and told me that if I wanted to stop receiving calls, I should call 0845 076 0174.  I called this, also with 141, and immediately encountered music, so hung up.

Had 3 calls from this number today whilst I was out. No message left. I don't have any accounts with Barclays so why would they need to call me?

yea this is definitely Barclays.... DOB's are generally available anyway mostly via the electoral register, and the last 2 letters of your mothers maiden name are pretty much useless.

Its Barclays Outbound, they have an office in sunderland and one in liverpool, they call to review customer's accounts but they also try to sell customers products.

They would never ask for any account/card/pin details, so dont worry people.

I was called today at 7;25pm by 08000852652 and they were saying that they were Barclays, but obviously this wasn't true and they asked personal information like my date of birth.
I asked my husband before saying this and he said just ignore it then i said i cannot give you my personal information and ended the call.
The bottom line is don't trust anyone and don't give personal info away

Had a call from this number today (the last of several in the past couple of weeks on my business land line (registered with Business TPS). didn't answer it as had in the past and it hung up. Will be reporting them to TPS as unsolicited caller and silent caller, whoever they are.

Just got called by this number. Woman (who asked for me by name) claiming to be from Barclays wanting to review my account. Asked for my DOB. I asked her to verify who she was, and she bizarrely offered to give me the last six digits of my account number, or any two from my sort code! I said, OK. Then instead of doing this she asked for my DOB again. I said, er, weren't you going to verify who you were? Then she hung up.

I think it's pretty unlikely the call was actually from Barclays, and even if it was all I've done is miss out on the opportunity to "review my account"!

Male (Liverpudlian accent) called me saying he was from Barclays Bank. Poor quality line and I couldn't hear what info he wanted. When I asked if I could call back, as I was suspicious at receiving an unsolicited call from a bank on a Saturday, he told me it wasn't important, so I hung up.

Yep, had this number phone several times this last week. Ignored it every time. I cannot understand why Barclays would consider doing this cold calling as it simply alienates everyone. I would never bank with them now, so well done Barclays, one more lost customer.. Not exactly an effective marketing strategy.

It's quite funny how a simple Google search for a phone number brings up so many hits. :) yes I too received a phone call from someone posing as Barclays Bank, unfortunately for him I did a 1471 and reported it to the fraud department.

@anon "This call is from Barclays... stop being so paranoid kids!"

I hate to break the news anon but you statement is pure bollox and for the following reasons.

    a) 99% of calls made by genuine corporations are withheld numbers and if not I doubt they would be outbound 0800 numbers.

    b) banks rarely call customers for general enquires and ask for sensitive information such as sort code and account numbers, a simple confirmation of your name and postal code should be sufficient.

    c) the phone call I received was made around 7pm which is rather late in my opinion.

    d) Barclays Bank call centres are based in India, the person who called me had a clear English accent and not Indian.

    e) and lastly the fraud department at Barclays Bank do not recognise the number as being part of their services.

I rest my case then :)

Got a call this morning from these people. Then another this afternoon. Woman kept saying "hello" and then rung off. Barclays DO NOT recognise this number as part of their services. I can only imagine the 0800 number is to encourage you to call back coz it's free [from a landline].

For those poor souls whom are already ex-direc or registered with MPS services... here's a tip.... Add a contact to your mobile called "Ignore" and add their number (and any other cold-call numbers) to it. Whenever they ring you can just ignore the call. It may sound silly [since it doesnt prevent them calling which, lets face it, would be bliss!] ... but when you've various cold-call numbers calling you, you can instantly see on your screen if it's one to ignore :

.... perhaps its gives me a chance to find that Air-horn I purchased recently and let it off down the phone knowing the git on the end is somewhat deserving.

    ANOTHER VICTIM
Calls from 08000852652 on 1st October 2009 when my phone was on answerphone. They did not leave a message and hung up as soon as my phone went into answerphone-mode - but they didn't withhold their number. I've never had anything to do with Barclays in my life, so clearly it is a try-on. On calling them via mobile, you get the message that this access number is not free of charge and to call again without the first zero, i.e. 8000852652. That number gives an automate message saying this is about a Barclays product, telling you to ring and 0845 number, but that it does not mean that you won't be phoned again by Barclays. In other words, Barclays intends to pester you forever.
