Got a few missed calls from this same number over the past few days.  It rang today and I answered.  They claimed they were from Barclays just doing routing customer account checks.  Again like some others I was asked for my DOB.  And like Bill above, they were able to tell me all my balances up to today!  Made a few suggestions here and there and yes, there was alot of voices in the background too.

Decided to Google the number and it led me here.  Rang up Barclays afterwards to ask about it and the woman told me that this is a number they use to offer products and services to their customers.  I asked for the guys name from the earlier call and where he worked and they couldnt find that persons name but the department room where he worked did exist.

I was told by Barclays woman that I should be OK as long as I didnt divulge any passwords or secret codes.  With the amount of fraud nowadays, you just cant be too sure anymore...

I've Googled this number & have been led here as well.

There was a phone call for me while I was at work yesterday afternoon.  The person calling apparently said they were from Barclays & had to speak to me personally.  They refused to state their business to anybody but me. It was suggested that they call me this morning, but haven't.
I have reason to believe it's a cold caller for Barclays products operating from an Indian call centre.

They called us several times over the last few days and we finally frustratingly answered tonight's call at 21:00.  They claim to be Barclay's Bank updating us with their latest offers so we said we weren't interested and hung up.  As others have commented we're not to happy about being cold called late in to the evening!

Received the same call as the others, pretending to be from Barclays bank, but the caller knew where the account was opened. This means they have some access to new account records, even if it's just location.

Got a call yesterday at 16:18hrs from somebody claiming to be from Barclays Bank saying they are updating their records and making sure that I don't need any of their services. The guy asked for me by my first and last name. I coldly declined and they hunged up. How can it be Barclays? If it is, shame of them for cold calling like that over the phone and fishing for personal details.

This number called me yesterday and the lady said that she was calling from Barclays but was trying to fix her computer and asked if it would be okay for her to phone me later?  I said no and told her that I thought it was a bit fishy.  She did not even try to convince me - just said okay!!  Surely if this is Barclays, then it is out of order.

In the last two days whilst off-sick with a migraine tying to sleep, I have had about 4 calls which hang up as soon as I pick up but have automated messages!!

I'm on an ex-directory, TPS registered line - Shrewsbury 01743 dial code.
I've had calls from this number on
    08/11 11:36
    03/12 18:45
    04/12 11:45
    04/12 18:45
    05/12 19:07
    06/12 16:14

I finally gave in and answered the last call. As other posters have said, it just hung up.

Today 07/12 at 12.44 received a call from 04079650600 which I didn't answer and having looked it up on this site sounds like it may be a scam number. I don't usually get numbers like these calling me (I normally work from home so would notice) - Coincidence?

Apparently this num has tried to call for me 3 times this week and keep asking my parents when I will be home so I decided to google it and it led to this site. If they call again I shall be telling them to **** off as it seems a bit dodgy to me.

This number called me back today and I answered, he was rude when I asked him what it was regarding, said he was calling from Barclays, been banking with them for 7 years and never called me before......told him I thought he was dodgy and he turned round and said well if fraud is committed on your account your liable for it. I hung up on him. I have fraud protection/identity theft cover on ALL my cards so I'm ok anyway. Didn't give him any info and he didn't seem to like it ha.

I got a call from this number who claimed to be from Barclays and was asked for my date of birth.

This sounded like phishing, so I terminated the call.
I rang Barclays and they rang the number and told me that this was an offer for services from Barclays. I complained in the strongest terms, and they have told me that they will investigate.
I have a complaint reference from Barclays.

I had a call today at 19:11 on my mobile from this number. Called it back and it gave the "This is Barclays, offers, don't worry" message.

From this thread it seems it is Barclays, if in doubt I will drop into the branch and ask them to check what boxes I ticked when filling in the account registration gumph. I'm pretty sure that the forms I filled in I specifically put "no marketing" [I always do out of habit from years of working on the internet, so I don't recall it specifically these days - it's like smoking a ciggy, second nature...] but there were a few forms where the lass in the branch did the form filling for me.

Not particularly fussed though - I almost never answer the phone unless I'm sitting down somewhere quiet, because the phone is on Silent with a feckless vibrating alert, so I miss most calls, and if it's important, people leave a message!

I have had at least 10 calls from this number over the last year. The last one about an hour ago on the 2/1/08
After the first call I no longer bother to answer if I see this number on the caller display. I just let my answer phone pick up the call, and the caller always hangs up leaving no message.
The first time I was called the caller claimed to be from Barclays and attempted to get my DOB and other information. When I resisted giving my details the caller said that he had some important information about my account but could not tell me until I confirmed my details.
I said  I would not give my details over the phone and that I would phone my local branch and they could ask me to come in if they had important information about my account. I also said why does Barclays not send me a letter if there is information I should be aware of......the caller then hung up.

The other thing I found strange was that the caller had very little English and had an Indian sounding accent. I suppose I could be wrong and this could be Barclays calling, but if it is then it goes against how they tell people to protect their accounts, unless they are just testing people out to see if they do give information. Also if they were genuine why do they not leave a message on the answer phone asking me to contact my branch. I wonder what would happen if people gave out incorrect information to the caller from this number ? If the were genuine they should know the details given are wrong. I may try that next time I see the number come up in the caller display !

I too receved a call from this number at 17:19 today 2/1/08. Since I did not recognise it, I hesitated then said "hello" but there was no answer even though the line was open.I hung up. If this caller works for Barclays he is definitely doing a disservice to the bank at this moment. Hope something is done about ASAP.

Had this number call again today, I answered this time - all I got was music as if in a queue. I hung up straight away.

Had 8 calls from this number so far this week and all were silent when we answered them.  Called the number back and got a message that it was Barclays with information about products and services and "not to worry".  I believe the calls come from one of their call centres in India.

I am surprised Barlcays want to annoy people in this way.  I am sure if an individual (rather than a company)kept ringing the same number and not talking when the call was answered they'd be done for it.
