I am currently being constantly called by this number. The caller/s either hang up without leaving a message or if I answer they hang up after I've said 'Hello'
I wonder why the number can be accessed by 1471, most dodgy ones are 'number witheld'. I had a guy speak to me on the phone before all this began, about 2 months ago, said he was from Barclays, asked for my name, dob and postcode, which I gave, as it is info that can be found so readily these days it is practically public domain material! He gave me some spiel about life insurance which I pleasantly declined to take up and he thanked me for my time. I did not check the number so don't know if it it coincidence. The calls I am getting now are really hacking me off as we run a business from home and I have to keep picking up the phone for potential customers. Considering contacting Watchdog. Anyone else doing the same?

I had a call from this number today. The guy had a northern/liverpudlian accent and said he was calling from Barclays Accounts Services, and was ringing to confirm details on my account and to check that I am happy with the service I receive. He said he needed to verify that I was the account holder and needed to check some details then asked me to conform my DOB which I stupidly gave.... then immediately became suspicious as I realised I had no idea why this person was calling me, I said 'sorry, what exactly is this call regarding?' at which point he got flustered and said his computer was taking a while to bring up my details... so i quickly managed to end the call then and there, but am really hoping that giving my DOB hasn't endangered my account... do NOT answer calls from this number - definitely something dodgy going on!

Got a sprained ankle, hobbled to the phone to answer it and they rang off.

had a call from this number 08000852652 asking for my wife, calling her by her second name - suspicous straight away.  Pased phone to wfe who then got asked for DOB and other questions.  she queried and they got nervous - wife then hung up.  1471 revelaed the number

Phone rang but cut off as soon as I answered

Called today, hung up when I answered.
I'm registered on TPS.

VERY DODGY

Called and hung-up several times on my girlfriend, when I answered they said that it was Barclays and that there had been some 'developments with my account, could I give my date of birth'. I declined and asked for details/ a number to ring back on to which they said press 1471 and check it against the barclays number!

Seems like a scam to me.

Got a call off this number last night about 9pm and answered without checking the number, guy asked to speak to me and said could I spare some time for an account review, I said no thanks and gave no details about myself apart from confirming my name, he said ok no problem and I hung up. Indian call centre jobby me thinks! Am heading into Barclays soon to complain to them as I am TPS registered and they dont have my premission to call me with these crap offers.
Think they are genuine but just a pain.

Just had a call from this number.  My wife answered at first and gave her DOB.  She became suspicous and I then asked a few questions.  I was told that if I did 1471 I could ring the number and verify that it was Barclays.  I asked her what the number was so I could google it whilst she was on the phone and she said she didn't know it!

I have since rung Barclays to report my suspicions of attempted fraud (the amount of detail the caller wanted was intrusive).  Barclays said they could not check out the number, but rang it whilst I was on the phone.  The guy said he would pass the number to their fraud department to check it out just in case.

Call me cynical, but I wouldn't give anything to these callers and how do we know the comments above claiming that loads of details were known about them are not posts by the scammers?  Why google a number if you're happy it's genuine??

i am not sure whats going on until there is a final outcome after looking at some of the earlier posts... i too got a call, assumed it phishing and said him to prove they are genuine, same thing they said dial 1471, this didnt help... so googled till here...

i can only "assume" of one thing now that my computer was left on the internet for downloads 2 days back, which i would rarely do, as i keep using safe practices to keep my computer clean, i had installed free DAP too that day to speed up the CBT downloads, early morning my computer firewall setting were changed entirely not sure how, hope it not a hack or a trojan of some sort... if this assumption has any relavance with this then possibly some of the guys above might have faced some sort of internet related transactional issue in an known or unknown manner...? this is just a doubt!!

They also said they were form Sunderland contact centre  in India... not sure if true, but voice sounded like non-native english speaker... I guess.. many neighboring countries of Indian when possible falsely claim they are indian so that they can gain better repect over the profile of its neighbors.. !

I think if I'm bored and I get one of these, I'll tie them up for ages giving loads of stupidly false information and see if they tweak.

Wonder if anyone in India knows a Mr Ifor Biggan? Or Benjamin Dover. Or a Mary Contraré (yes dear, I know I have a deep voice, its a condition I developed from speaking on the phone all day back when I had a telemarketing job, the doctors say its irreversible)....

just had this call tonight @ 19:55 it is Barclays, first thing they asked is for me to confirm my date of birth! so I said erm you called me I'm not giving you any information what is the call about? He said we cant tell you until through security so I said fair enough bye then, and hung up.
I noticed on my call log I have had a few of these calls during the day while at work

Phone rings then stops up when dialled, message states;
hello this is barclays we tried to call you.I have received 6 calls in two days its a Bloody nuisance

Recieved a call from this number asking for a Maria. Person had a Irish/Austrailian sounding voice. Music was playing in the background at the start.

Dunno if this is of any use to people.

they called and i answered they stayed on the phone for about 5 minutes and i was just screaming down the phone then they screamed back and hung up
