    These are not scammers.

I've been getting daily calls from this number for about 3 weeks, and ignored all but one after reading this page, thinking they would give up. But they haven't.

I checked them out with vodafone customer services (191) and they are a marketing company working on their behalf giving existing customers courtesy calls to offer new packages. They said they are known to them and are totally legit.

Even so vodafone are going to put a stop to them contacting my number from now, so just call 191 and they'll sort it out.

This is not vodafone per say, but it is in a way.
It is perfectly legitimate rightly or wrongly.
They are a random company who have been contracted by Vodafone to do renewals.  They do the upgrade and save Vodafone a small fortune since they only offer £25 or a crappy mp3 player.  Rather than Vodafone who have free mobiles and allsorts.

im a vodafone customer and have had many missed calls from the number.
sometimes i would pick up and somebody would either hang up straight away, or i would hear a weird noise in the background. not exaclty professional.
after researching the number i think its safe to say its a scam.

also, after them not successfully speaking to me, "vodafone" sent me a weird text with a link saying i could "click for FREE to see how many exclusive free minutes i have enjoyed"

has anyone else recieved this text? i thought it sounded strange, as you know every month through your bill how many minutes etc you have used anyway. and you can request that sort of basic contract information at anytime....

The hanging up is the predictive dialler not having enough agents to pass your call to.

What happens is that to save agents ringing you up, a machine will dial the number and when answered pass the call to a free agent.  If there are no free agents then the call hangs up.  Its more efficient than an agent manually dialling but you do occasionally get these silent calls.

    This isnt a scam.
    =================

My contract has just come up for renewal and I've suddenly started getting these calls.  They'll be a retention team working for vodafone in a 3rd party call center.  Very common business practice to farm out these sorts of outbound calling accounts.

I got a call asking to confirm my address details and account password. He claimed to be from Vodafone and was offering an upgrade. I never give any details out unless I phone a specific company, if they phone you they will be scammers. Do not phone them back as this may be a premium rate number.

I just had a call from this number, didn't answer as I don't accept unknown numbers, but read the comments here and then spoke to Vodafona (191) who said they don't recognise that number and it definitely wasn't them.

Strange thing is, I just received an upgrade about 4 days ago on Vodafone through phones4u - so I'm wondering if it's them who have sold my details onto a 3rd party.

Read the small print when you sign those contracts!

Have not answered any of them phone calls from either 08080000133 , 08080000144 or 08080011102 and now when I have got 5 days left with Voda and just received a text message saying: From Vodafone: Move for free to Pay As You Talk when your contract ends. keeping your number and handset. Just reply YES to this message and we’ll do the rest.
has anyone received it? I just hope I have not been charged for that...

Received a call ast week about upgrading my pay as you go tariff. They asked me for my name and i gave it to them, then myh date of birth and i gave them that too. Then they went on to explain the upgrade and said they will send me 4 siim cards so i can give them to family and then calls between us would be free, i said ill have to see if the others would be willing to change networks and the guy was insistant he send them too me and they can just use the sim cards when they wanna call me, i found this very strange and did not give my address or any further details. He said he would call again in a few days once i had spoken to other people bout the change, ive just recieved a missed call from this 0808 number and googled it and realised whats going on, dont answer and dont be like me and give any details out, although i didnt give out too much i am a little concerned that now my name and date of birth is in there hands!
This definately seems like a scam, and play it safe and dont even bother answering!!

Recieved a call from this number yesterday evening but I missed it, this morning I have had two calls from witheld numbers which is odd as I have a brand new (less than a week old) contract with Vodaphone on a new number which only three people have so far (none of which have called me on a witheld). I answerd the second witheld number only to be hung up on after a few seconds of backround call center noise.

Probably vodaphone already trying to upgrade my already top packagae contact.

    argh!

Got three calls in the last three days, now I have just been on the 191 helpline and spoke to 'Chris'.
He explained that this IS NOT A SCAM but folk calling from Vodaphone trying to sell some other packages.
    Here's why.
When a customer registers their phone, the customer help guys are ticking in their form a box which says:
Do you want to receive calls for special offers and upgrades.

If you tell customer support (191 from your mobi) to check this for you and to remove your "consent" the calls should be stopping.

Please try it and post your experiences....

    Kind ones
    Marc

    PS:
I hope Chris is right in what he says, or he'll get it...:)
