Got a call from this number too... added it to the reject list on my phone, no more calls, yippee!
The caller doesn't say anything and seems to call on lunch hours and after working hours. There's not even background noise - very odd!

    hi people.
Just to conform they are vodafone, but are 3rd party! they normally ring about nine months into your contract, asking you if you wan an upgrade. i got my upgrade sent to me, but they are pretty dumb in terms of sending it to the right address. I live in birmingham but it got sent to new castle lol.

At first i thought it was a scam, but when i ask them,if they were vodafone then hey should know who i am and my details. When they told me the details they were all correct!

You dont need to give your details out. If they are vodafone they should know all your information

"its definitely a scam... have just spoken to the real vodafone who confirmed that nobody from there called me. what a bunch of nasty people"

They wont have a record, as you didnt speak to the guys at the 0808 number or didnt request anything from them.

    Simple way to check
    1. Pick up Phone
    2. Say this to operator " I have been recieving calls from 08080000144 can you confim this number is vodafone calling me please."
3.Opperator : Yes this is vodafone is there anything more i can do for you
3 " No thanks thats great Alistair on the forum, was right all along "

Answered the first call from this number. I confirmed my name (which was a mistake). She asked for my passcode. I said no and asked why she was calling. She said she couldnt tell me. I asked her to proove she was from vodafone. She said what model of phone I have, which she got wrong. I said that she had failed to proove herself. She said that's ok, phone 191 and ask why she was calling. I did so, but vodafone have no record of needing to call me for any reason and no record of having called me. Possibly a scam to get peoples details so that they can call vodafone and request an upgrade and have that upgrade redirected somewhere else??
Anyone know if this could be a reverse charge thing - am I paying money if I pick up again?

--- 08080000144 ---  I have had a number of these calls today and I was a little curious as to who they were.  I called 191 from my Vodafone phone and he confirmed that the number was indeed a GENUINE call from 3rd party company working on behalf of Vodafone offering me a Sim only transfer deal.  He made a note on the system and said I wouldn't get another call from them about this deal If you were not interested in it.  He also mentioned that if you ring the number it lets you know that it was Vodafone that has called.  He said that sometimes these 3rd party people also make mistakes and action deals that you have turned down.  I got a call about a 6 months contract extention for £25 which I turned down and they still actioned it!!!  The Vodafone representative on the 191 number cancelled the deal and put me back on my original contract.

So .... it is a GENUINE call but beware that they may action a deal that you don't want by mistake.

I have had a missed call from this number for the past 3 to 4 days. Thought it may have been important so googled the number and found this site. I shall continue to ignore it or try and block it.

    Thanks

I have recieved loads of missed calls from this number, eventually i answered a call and a man, (sounding very similar to fonejacker character george) said he was calling from vodaphone upgrade department in grenada. Me stupidly not paying attention gave him my address and name, he then continuned about a free upgrade, but i could not understand him as he talked so fast, this is when i decided to hang up. Typed the caller number on google and found this

Had a call from this number 2 weeks ago..

"Hello you are eligible for a free early upgrade!"

"We will call you back on 17th Feb to speak about possible handsets!"

    Fair enough...

But its 17th today and i have been looking forward to this call...so i popped into voda shop today and they said "um...we have it here that you are only eligible for upgrade at beginning of april..."

    SO ANNOYED!

I got a call from this number just now and thought it was dodgy so i called vodafone to check if it was them and the guy said that it was and that they were doing a lot of work on customer satisfaction at the moment.

Have been getting calls from these guys daily over the past couple of weeks. I never answer numbers I don't recognise and I certainly won't be now, whether it's a scam or not. I rang the number back and it says it's a Vodafone courtesy call and no further action is required from me, or I can call 08080000155 during the day to speak to an advisor from my handset. Fair enough, but why would't I just call 191 from my handset?!?! Customer satisfaction - I'd be a more satisfied customer if they stopped bugging me on a daily basis.

Just got a call from them today. I'm on a brand new contract and have yet to call/text anyone (but my wife) on it and already I'm getting this crap.

Have placed the number into the blacklist and will contact Vodafone later.

Just had one of these calls - the first time I've had a chance to answer it (they usually just end up as missed calls). Sadly, i did not have the pleasure in speaking with them, am quite looking forward to chatting with them when I next ring! Good call on the (much) earlier post about giving the wrong DOB ... definitely trying that one next!

had few missed calls from this number isn't it 'strange' that i'm due for an upgrade too

I've had the same thing, only I wasn't told that I was due a handset upgrade, instead that they wanted to upgrade my internet package, as it was "over £7 this month" which is rubbish as I haven't used it this month. He also tried to get me to hand over details, which I refused.

If this is a third party then I'm sure that they could be sued for misrepresentation, as they are not technically Vodafone, unless Vodafone have a contract with them. Even so, customers are being misled as to what is being offered and by who.
