Just had a call that i answered.  After several missed calls i had googled and found this page. (I have had a new phone 4 weeks ago and he knew the model number)

I ended the call after the guy wanted me to verify my pin.

I phoned 191 and asked the lady to confirm it was infact Vodafone.  She went away for about a minute, and came back and confirmed this number is infact VODAFONE not a scam.....  they are courtesy calls to find out if you are happy with your plan.

Its not an upgrade call.  To all those above it is Vodafone checking if your are happy with your service.

CHECK WITH VODAFONE 191 AND THEY WILL TELL YOU IT IS THEM CALLING AND NOT A SCAM!!!

Do not post as such any more with out first checking with 191 first

I've had numerous missed calls from this number and finally answered it a few weeks ago.  The thing that made me suspicious was that i could'nt understand the caller cos he sounded like that African fella off Phonejacker!

What could happen if i gave my details cos i can't remember if i did or not??

Turns out this number is flagging up as a mobile on certain databases.

Here is the mobile number: 07836 953 423

Up to you how you deal with it, but I would suggest calling the police & give them both the 0808 number followed by this one. Tell them it is possibly the same number and get an icident nuber for  nuicance calls.

They will then work with your provider to try and fix this.

OK, spent half an hour on the phone to Vodaphone regarding this 08080000144 number. The girl, whilst sweet and extremely helpfull was a tad vague regarding the validity of this number.

However, it would seem that 07836 953 423 is being re-routed through a server and showing up on your caller i.d. as 08080000144.

I asked and was granted that this number be blocked. This is done by Voda placing a note on the computer to stop calls to my number.

So it would seem that Voda are doing something silly whilst trying to do something good (in their view).

Just phone 08700700191 if you are a Voda customer.

    Hope this helps.
    • Caller: Voda it would seem...

This no has been calling me once or twice a day for the last 2 weeks, leaves no 121 message.
Can someone tell me if I can block this no. on a Nokia N25 phone?
    cheers

As both myself and "Pookies Dad" have said above this is VODAFONE.

However they do seem to make it look suspect.

Informing the police is not a good idea as this is a genuine Vodafone call (as said above VERIFY with 191 and they will tell you.

Why would people want to report to the police but not check with Vodafone first ....

Answer the calls, tell them you are happy and thank them and say good bye.  You will not get the calls again.

It is remarkebly stupid to block your service providers numbers in your phone

These scammers have called me twice now and both times I have challenged the caller. Any legitimate company should always read your details to you and ask for confirmation rather than vice versa regardless of the Data Protection Act nonsense they alleged to be conforming too.

The second caller actually said my initials but couldn't tell me my full name. So I told her my name was Richard Chamberlain (which it isn't) and she carried on with "Ok Mr. Chamberlain, could you confirm your address". At that point I said that in fact the name I'd given her was incorrect proving that the call was not legitimate or she'd have corrected me.

If you have some time for a little fun, string them along with a false name and details and see how long you can keep them on the phone for.

I also called the number back from a restricted landline. It has a recorded message allegedly Vodafone and it asks one to call 08080000155 which clicks straight through to a message informer the caller that all the advisers are busy and then plays some music. Clearly your call will never be answered and chances are that it is a vastly expensive premium rate number.

    What Rubbish.

A business who has your details cannot read them out until they have confirmed you are who they think you are.

What would happen if they had gotten the wrong number and giver your details to a complete stranger??

IDIOT CALL 191 and realise what an idiot you are

I upgraded last week got a call today, but I never answer numbers I don't know anyway. Put them on my reject list. I figure if the call is important and is from Vodafone they can write to me or send me an email to the address they send my 'Bill is now online' email to.
