- LizzieM replies to Dawn| 2 repliesNot quite sure how I'm being a scaremonger. The people trying to scare here are TAPA. Somebody put my name and address on this site, so of course I'm going to the police! I was advised that they may need my computer. How has that got anything to do with my knowledge, or otherwise of IT? Perhaps you need to make sure of your facts before you start throwing insults around.
- Bill| 1 replyMaybe Dawn didn't realize the gravity of what had happened with the publishing of your details. Anyway I see they are now gone and I hope the Police will be acting to bring this whole business to a close
- Lucid replies to LizzieM| 1 replyNot sure why some people think your a scaremonger? I've been watching threads for a while now I was scammed and that coincided with me losing my job which was to much to bear..... thanks to the threads on here and MSE I've felt more secure in standing up to these people. Keep up the good work would love to see these guys crash and burn publically! :-)
- LizzieM replies to LucidI think everyone (well nearly) is the strength of this thread. We've all been in that awful situation when you first get caught by these dreadful 'companies'. When you realise you're not the only one it is such a relief. I know it was for me and it made me determined to fight them - and to try and help anybody else who is struggling with the same problem, cos it don't 'alf make you feel lonely sometimes!
- Nan replies to Dawn| 14 repliesIt would have been nice if you had spent some time reading this thread before posting. LizzieM is not and never was scaremongering, she has simply laid out the facts and stood up for her, and others, rights. The obscene and threatening posts aimed at Lizzie and others, have been removed. So has the one which gave her name and address You obviously have no idea what has been going on. Did you ever post on this thread? I have gone back to mid October and can find nothing from you. Incidentally, when you were saving your hard earned money by not registering you cancellation letter, did it cross your mind that, if this company deny receiving it, you have no proof that it was ever sent. I do hope you do not think I am scaremongering by mwentioning this.
- phil142 replies to Nan| 13 repliesNan: Dawn made a couple of entries (Nov 16th)
- Nan replies to phil142| 12 repliesThanks, Phil. My eyes must be going!. I was just so annoyed at the tone of the post I lost it. Tell you what though, reading the earlier posts and then the latest one, do you think it is the same person?
- phil142 replies to Nan| 1 replyI think it is though could be wrong
- LizzieM replies to Nan| 4 repliesI think it probably is too. I get the feeling from the posts that Dawn doesn't have much time for those of us who worry about the situation instead of just ignoring it. I still can't figure out how I was supposed to be scaremongering - even with the post in question removed. Did she actually think that I meant that if I wasn't around (in case my computer was out of action) the thread would cease to be? She has obviously read some hidden meaning into my post that I wasn't aware of myself!! (Note to self: proof read every post and avoid words like 'police' and 'evidence')
- MoetWell done all in keep the pressure up
- Rach244| 8 repliesSo have you all been having the same threatening phone calls from TAPA? I cannot believe how rude and persistent they are :(
- Caller: TAPA
- Bill replies to Rach244Yes, if you read through the thread you will see. In the end they will give up and move onto a new victim. hold fast
- phil142 replies to Rach244hi Rach244: Are you having frequent calls? When did it start?
- LizzieM replies to Rach244| 4 repliesWelcome to our world!
- dimar replies to Rach244what is the person's name that calls you?
- Lucid replies to LizzieM| 3 repliesI just found something interesting on the web re how to check if VAT numbers are correct it appears that the number theyn display is possibly a fake./
Tapa's VAT Reg Number is 108 4413 38 this is how you check that it's genuine
CHECK VAT NUMBER TO MAKE SURE IT'S VALID
VAT registration is not valid if the VAT number is not correct!
It is possible to check whether a VAT registration number shown on an invoice is valid. This is important because the purchaser cannot recover VAT incorrectly charged by an unregistered trader unless Customs & Excise allow them to do so by concession. Therefore, registration numbers should be tested as follows:
The first seven digits of the VAT registration number are listed vertically.
Each digit is multiplied by a number, starting with 8 and decreasing to 2.
The sum of the multiplications is calculated.
97 is subtracted from the sum as many times as is necessary to arrive at a negative number.
The negative number should be the same as the last 2 digits of the VAT registration number if it is valid.
Example
VAT registration number 339 0727 47
3 *8 = 24
3 *7 = 21
9 *6 = 54
0 *5 = 0
7 *4 = 28
2 *3 = 6
7 *2 = 14
Total = 147
147 - 97 = 50 - 97 = - 47
As the negative number(- 47) is the same as the last two digits of the VAT number, the number is valid.
Why not spend a couple of moments to do the maths the above is an example tapa's Vat reg number appears not to follow this rule maybe they have made a mistake on the website?
I leave you all to make your own minds up on this one
The VAT reg number for Tapa is at the bottom of their home page - elroonio replies to Vicki| 6 replieshey vicki, sorry for the late reply, been offline for a while now with pressing real life matters.
not heard anything since being threatened with court if i didn't pay up by 14/11. a CCJ wouldn't appear on my credit score as i signed up with my company, so they don't have my home address or phone numbers.
TBH i think i've heard the last from them, they've probably gone on to harass some unlucky so and so somewhere else.
i can't believe they published LizzieM's home address and stuff - where did they do that? what name did the post it under? - phil142 replies to elroonio| 5 repliesElroonio: Don't waste time searching for the entry with Liz's address as it has been removed. It was on this Whocallsme page. They had adopted/borrowed the name of one of the other fairly regular contributors here but it wasn't him. He would not have had her address. Glad that you have not heard from TAPA again.
- elroonio replies to phil142| 4 replieshey phil - i weren't looking for it, i just wondered what site they posted it on. i wonder - what on earth could they gain from posting the address of someone they were trying to scam
- elroonio replies to elroonio| 2 repliesand by 'hey phil' i didn't mean 'i command your attention', just like 'hi phil'. been speaking to americans a lot lately and they use hey instead of hi
