I could go on digging but if you have not realised by now that TAPA is a scam by now or The advertising protection agency is a scam, then what can I say “There’s one born every minute”

If any nice person wants to find out who the share holders on companies house named above and do some digging there place it here and use the rest of my document to spread the word about this con man Mr Anthony Simister. The officer are only listed here but its the share holders who may run the company’s aswell, no doubt they’ll be linked to scam companies. Oh and if your reading this and are a member of any other forum please repost this or point people to this thread.

While I think on the if there are innocent Businesses on TAPAs web site (ok some may be a bit doggy), who think that tapa are a legitimate government body need to Think again and take action! Contact trading standards and report them!!

Angel: This is a very old message which has been repeated on here many times. There may well be some truth in it but unless you know this personally, it isn't a good idea to repeat it. As Bill has said, action from the ASA and Trading Standards has resulted in changes to TAPA's site. TS in cheshire has recently helped me but would make no comment on TAPA activities.

I agree. Why print information that there is no way of knowing is real / correct and that has been on many forum's before and removed. It has a very personal feel to it rather than an actual complaint? TS confirm that they can only take a complaint that is genuine not because somebody has told them to complain, that's called a vigilante is it not?

Ok today I received a very photocopied looking letter from TAPA threatening a county court claim if I don`t pay by tomorrow! The letter was dated 31st May, posted 2nd class but hasn`t got a postal frank marking and I have until 7th June to pay to avoid a claim being filed in court. The letter is obviously a photocopy, being faded, black and white. Has anyone actually been taken to court yet? My initial dealings with TAPA were in Sept last year...foolishly I thought they had given up, but no they are back. Interested to know if anyone has been taken to court yet?

Have read the ASA ruling and if there's any lesson to learn it is to read info before you enter personal details. I know I now do!

The last time i wrote on here was 21st of feb 2012, after having a phone conversation with the alleged mr david ovlerton, today, 7th of june 2012, after 3 months, he's decided to send an email threatening me with court action.  Still don't know how much i supposedly owe, he wouldn't make a very good debt collector.  Not any genuine company would go this long without correct procedures on collecting money that they know you owe.  And still, after all this time, not anyone has been able to post if they have actually been to court with TAPA, so i would take it that court never happens.

You're right Sheraa, from this and all the other threads on TAPA no one has ever actually been to court and they never will unless they are the ones who actually take TAPA to court for harassment etc.

I was threatened with court in  April but nothing more has happened, perhaps because I got help from TS in Cheshire.

Have spoken to somebody who had a genuine court claim filed against them (asked not to be named but you can find them on their opt out ledger) that they confirmed with the court to be real. They are still actually registered (says it was down to finances and not service failing?). This was a business though and on the charity scam side not nuisance calls so maybe it is on the commercial side where there is more money to claim that they bother going through court. Am still calling businesses to dig up info and on that side people seem to be of the opinion that it works well.

Bill I would personally be very wary about anything to do with TAPA and their site. My personal experience with them and their tactics was very unpleasant and unnerving and as this is an anonymous site in all honesty no one can be sure if mine or your posts are those that really reflect the reality of the situation. All I know that in all the post on different forums no one has every directly said they have been taken to court. lots of threats with no substance.

i am a business, just myself, and i had calls from supposable emergency service & charity calls, i called tapa to stop and they did.  I was already on TPS so if a company doesn't follow an official body, then why would they listen to TAPA.  To me its is obvious that these scam companies that stopped calling are in partnership with TAPA, and for the others, they are part of another group.  I paid TAPA upfront for 1 year, and after few weeks when i came to my senses, i wrote a letter registered post (which unfortunately lost all the info)  to cancel & for them to contact me in writing only.  I never heard a thing.  After the year was up, i got a phone call a month after the year was up in November 2011 from a Daniel saying i didn't renew & do i want to continue.  Which i said no. February David was assigned by the accountant apparently, to chase me for payment because i'm in a contract with them.  I am not in a contract. As per their terms & conditions (there contract has been re-written and it only mentions it is a one year contract, nothing about paying one off payment up front, and only mentions if you pay instalments you have to give 1 months notice. I didn't pay by instalments I paid for 1 year, and that year is gone and over with)  Since February they have been calling me almost daily on my landline which i never answer, and twice on my mobile which i answered.  David threatened me with court on 21st of february by phone and then by e-mail 2 days ago. They still haven't told me how much i am supposed to owe them I cant afford to pay for a solicitor,  & if i pay them what they want, they will just continue to ask for more, as their official p.o box address, the mail gets signed for but never read or listened to or just doesn't respect the wishes of their customer.  So for now, i will just ignore them, and if a real court summons comes to my door, (although david did say to me he wasn't going to waste his time or resources writing to me) then i shall have to seek advice)  & so far, my trading standards office have been totally worthless & more so because i'm a business.  There is no protection for business unless you can afford a solicitor, which i am in no position to do so.  Just because i'm self employed doesn't mean i have a merc sat on the drive way, and rolling in it.  I struggle day to day like the majority of people.

My local TS was also not that helpful either. It might be worth contacting the East Cheshire branch. Ther person who has been dealing with TAPA is Paul Unwin. He has helped me and others.

However, i have just googled his name and i appear to have found a direct number, within a newspaper article, it appears he is a detective constable, so i will call him tomorrow.

Hi, it is not a friend but simply a business I called from their ledger. They said they paid before court as the court confirmed it to be a genuine claim and also he said that they had stopped the problem for him and advised how to get money back so did not see any reason to defend it. Only one problem with suggesting tapa are in cohorts with the scam companies is that they seem to tell people how to get money back and when i put this to them the response I got was very understandable, why would they scam people out of thousands and help get it back for such a little amount over a year?

John, you are right, nobody has any real way of knowing who is genuine or not on here but you have to remain open to discussion for and against. Forum's are meant for opinion and advice rather than outright slander / libel or complete unfounded praise. I would advise anybody to a) seek reliable advice & b) make your concerns clear to tapa and see what response you get. I am not registered as stated in previous posts but have take time(due to my experiences with them) to look in to all areas and it's clear that the non business side had many problems which asa and ts seem happy is now sorted but the business side seemed to never have an issue.

sheraa, you said that their service actually worked for you. Was it this site or others that have theories about their motives or genuine evidence you have personally obtained that makes you worried the reason their service works is due to foul play?

I would be very wary of some of the recent posts here which seem to be showing a clear TAPA bias. I have been following this thread since the towards the end of last year and have as yet to find any evidence on the internet that show conclusively that TAPA can provide the service that they claim to be able to. When I spoke to action fraud last year they said the main thing with them was that all they can really do is provide information that you can already get for free from various genuine government organization. They have no  statutory or legal powers and at best could only offer advice.
Bill seems to claim that a business was actually issued with Court proceedings but unless this can be verified I would take it with a pinch of salt. Again there is no independent proof that they have ever recovered any money and I fail to see how they can as they are not a legal practice. Whether they are in cohorts with some of these scam advertising companies I really can't say but some people seem to think they are and say so on various different sites

they are claiming tha whocallsme.com is a Scam!!! saying that positive reports about TAPA have been removed form the whocallsme and related sites. If you go back to the earlier pages on this thread you will in fact find posts supporting TAPA

the only posts that heave been removed here are those that were personally threatening violence and sexual abuse and when one persons address complaining about TAPA  was posted here presumably by some associates of TAPA.
the reality is that if you post any negative comment about TAPA on the nuisance calls website it will be removed within hours.

One has to remember that if this is a scam they will go to any length to try and convince people that they have a service to offer as otherwise how can they make any money.

i only found this forum in february 2012, my opinion of TAPA was from the outset.  At the time i wasn't in the right frame of mind, & therefore not thinking straight.  When i was first called from an emergency service & agreed to their advert, i knew something was wrong, i've worked in sales & call centres most of my working life, and something didn't sit right. I then went on to google to see who this company was & all i read was negative things & that business's were not able to cancel & ended up with huge bills as they demanded more & more money. Panic begins.... I contacted TS, took their advice, and in fact i cancelled straight away, and all was good, but in the mean time out of panic, while looking at this company i found TAPA website, and i couldn't work out if they are genuine or not, if they are a government body or not but i joined them knowing  it was a 1 year contract only (as i paid upfront not monthly instalments).  I was then thinking all sorts of conspiracies is this just some form of legalised racketeering, contacted TS, and what they say makes sense.  There is no need to go to TAPA when TS can help for free.  

I then called my credit card company to take back the money but then changed my mind as i'm the one who may have "fell" for this (that is if this company is not genuine) i decided to meet their terms & conditions, and i wrote a letter to them recorded delivery to cancel my contract with no refund, to delete my details & to confirm in writing that they have done this.  I know they signed for the letter, but i don't think they have read it, as any genuine company would have confirmed the cancellation.  When it was due for renewal, genuine companies write to you with the price, (remember i wasn't paying by instalments & the contract only states if you pay instalments it will auto renew & you have to give 30days notice). If they cant take my £200 and confirm cancellation having £200 for nothing, for all those that do pay instalments i am sure they will have a bigger headache than mine.

One month after the renewal date i got a call from daniel saying my contract was up, and do i want to join them again, & i refused.  3 month later david calls to say i owe 3 months money, so i said my contract ended 4 months ago, he then quickly errrd and said oh its 4 months you owe not 3! any genuine company would have got the facts straight & wouldn't try to get another lot of money.  So i told him he needs to write to me if he thinks i owe any monies. He told me quote " I'm not going to waste my time or our resources on writing to you" not any genuine company would talk like that.  Any genuine company would perhaps call the client but not harass the client calling daily from withheld number.

Its now June, i still don't know how much i'm supposed to owe.  Any genuine company would have written 2 weeks after the payment wasn't made, saying payment needs to be made & how much, then there would be 3 more chase letters every 2 weeks bringing it up to 2 months, then they send the debt to debt collectors, & if they have no luck after a few months then it goes to court.  Any genuine company would not have waited 4 months to start asking for money.  

The website, implies that they will deal with the scam advertisers, when you get the info pack, not only is it all photocopied which again no genuine company would do this,  It also has a pack telling you how to send these scam companies to court which you can get for free. however, the website implied that they would do al that, & then the T&C's contradict that.  (remember this was 2010 so the website & the T&C's have changed a little) So the only thing they supposedly do is stop the calls, but i still had calls from other charities & emergency services selling me advertising space.

What i would say is....this is a very intelligent, legalised scam.

Between the website & the T&C's there are many ambiguous statements & loopholes only to protect themselves, & nothing to protect the consumer, because they haven't actually done anything wrong.  To be able to prove them wrong you would need to use the service that they implied they would give & when they refuse you can take them for all what is worth, but the T&C's protect themselves, because they then say :

The Advertising Protection Agency is not a legal practice and does not act in any legal capacity or is qualified legally etc.....

So in actual fact TAPA do nothing at all.  The only thing they can do, is ask their friends (partners) rip-off companies to stop calling. Which in my book, is legalised racketeering.

one more thing, after that essay,  Thanks for the post, I was actually thinking earlier should they send me to court, i should then be able to get them to help stop this problem. As i have said they haven't once told me how much i supposedly owe them, so the sooner they send me the better.
