I have also been receiving regular calls from this number and I told them recently - less than politely - that I have no debts and do not wish to speak to them again.  They have just rung again asking if they have called a different number 0208........ - etc very different to my number.  I am alos ex directory and yet they still have my number.  Do they just call every single number combination and hope to find some innocent old people and grind them down.  These people should be shut down

    Bertie:
They have got your name and details from one or more of these:
An application for a loan/mortgage via a less than scrupulous finance company that has sold your name on.
From you completing a "market research" questionnaire in the street or, more likely, a "how was your holiday" form on the flight home from the Med.
A product guarantee form returned to a service company that was not the direct manufacturer.
Innocently putting it on Facebook, Twitter or other social networking sites.
A satellite television aerial contractor - they seem to sell details on to any company they can get money from.
Delivery companies who ask for your telephone number so that they can call you when their vehicle is "half an hour" away.
    And many more sources.

This is big business now and people have been receiving these calls for a number of years. Despite all the protests to police, government departments and consumer programmes, they don't get closed down or if they do, they just start up again from a different address with a different name but using the same database of numbers.

Ex-directory, by the way, does not mean that people who want to phone you cannot get hold of your number - they just can't get it from a directory or 118 118. The Telephone Preference Service is useless in these cases.

Do not confirm ANY details with these people.  If they ring up and ask to speak to Mr or Mrs xxxxx or use any part of your name do not confirm it.  Tell them they have the wrong number.  It won't stop the calls though - all they want is names & numbers.  This is nothing to do with any form of sales\marketing etc.. it's confirm if the details they have on record is correct and they will try to solicit any other useful information from you.
    It's an  Identity (Theft) Scam!

How many times do we have to tell these pests that Mrs Phillips does not live at this address and we do not want debt advice. 4 calls in 3 days and probably 30 in total in last 6 months and we are registered with the Telephone Preference Service !! Surely something can be done about this organisation.

    A Grainger, Paul & Caroline, Lou -
Read Jon's post just above yours - it's an ID scam - they are trying to get personal information from you and use it. The more you talk to them, the more you are likely to give something away.
They piece together tiny scraps of information from your conversations, and from other scammers, to eventually rob you or use your name to con other people.
You can't stop the calls but you can put the receiver down without saying anything. That's as annoying to them as the calls are to you.

this number called me over a year ago and again last night twice! both times it was an Indian guy saying it was about a Government programme.I said i refused to give any info over the phone because i've been a victim of identity theft so send me a letter cos if you're from the Government then you would have the details to do so..he basically started swearing at me and called me a stuck up B***h and put the phone down!!
I believe it's a con so do not give any info to them whatsoever!!

I just spoke to BT Nuisance Calls department about these people. Their immediate raction was a sigh, so I asked if they were familiar with them - oh yes!

In my case (ex-d & TPS etc) they have been asking for a different person, so BT checked their records and he did have what is now my number before me, so BT are going to tell Crystal that their records are wrong which "should stop the calls".

If this doesn't work, I have an old railway guards whistle by the phone...

I love phoning this company and saying my names sameed calling from the con credit council servix, I ask them if they any unsecured debt above £1.50.
Or alternatively, I tell them I'm in trouble with a "chappy" up the road who I owe £3.15 to for a can of super tennants and a grab bag of chilli heatwave dorito's. They havent a clue what I'm chuntering on about, but they do try and help bless them....or I call and just say sausages, and hang up....if you do the same, make sure you press 141 before dialling the number...other wise I guess they get your number. Anyway it's a taste of their own medicine and hugely gratifying once you've annoyed them a few times, oh finally make sure you completely mispronounce their name...that really frustrates them, MWWWAA HA HA!!!!!

Call at 0029 hrs on 12 December 2009 completely disrupted our sleep.  1471 gave us the phone number which I phoned today.  Yes, sounds of Indian/Packistani origin.  Told that office closes at 8 o'clock (our time or Indian?).  Wonder if PO Phones can stop these calls - presumably BT cannot!

    Had enough
They have been calling me all week, but luckily I've been missing the calls...  However, I rang them and told them to remove my number from their database and not to call again, that I wasn't interested and had no debt to consolidate.  Low and behold not less that 15mins later they called me again, funnily enough whilst I was reading these pages of complaints about them....   I left the hand set on speaker and whistled as loud as I could down the phone into the ear of the foreigner banging on an on about what he could offer.... Then I hung up after waisting about 5mins of his time, it felt good!   The I went straight to the Ofcom website to make a complaint at this link:

    https://www.ofcom.org.uk/complain/landline/silent/?itemid=284912

Ofcom will investigate if they get high levels of complaints, so all do it, it only took a couple of minutes to complete their online form.

    Feeling better now!

Ofcom (or the companies that advertise on this page) have no jurisdiction or influence over calls from overseas, nor do TPS. Both are powerless in this case.
The only way to stop the calls (other than change your number) is with the CallGuard gadget that appeared on Dragons Den a few months back and is now commercially available - that just blocks the call so that it does not ring your phone.

The reason they keep ringing you is that you respond by talking to them - they work on the basis that you will eventually let slip some information to add to what they already have on you. In a small number of cases this will give them sufficient information to steal your identity - very profitable.

As soon as you recognise the caller, put the phone down - they ask to speak to you by name - don't reply to that just say Who's calling? - They say Crystal - You put the phone down. After a week or so of this they will stop, but will restart a few weeks later. At least you will get a respite for a time.

Never ring them - they'll take that as an indication that you are feeling pressured by them and it will increase the calling intensity.

I have had repeated phone calls from Crystal Dept Management which I believe this number belongs to, I couldnt get their nuber via 1471.

They ask for a Mrs Dearlove and say that can help me solve my debt problems through a government advisory service.  I am lucky in that I dont have any debts so wasnt interested anyway.

They have rung me for about 6 months, last time around 11am this morning, a lady sounded concerned and said she would take my name of her records - I doubt this will happen as others have promised the same thing.

The call before this when I politely asked to receive no further calls an Indian man told me to p..s off.

I also get silent calls which I believe are from this number.  The phone number they ring is not listed in any directory and used for external calls only, they are the only people that ever ring me on that number.

They should be prosecuted fo hassling people. I object to paying for a service not to take a call.
