- Alli replies to DaleAs far as I can tell all of the comments are coming from people that have had experience at an interview or having had a training day or two with them, it's not competitors complaining. At my training day I was taught by a guy named Stuart, he taught me to stick with bungalows with old people in them because they're the easier sell and he used an old calculator to total up a sale, add a few extra quid on, and if the customer picked up on it then he blamed the calculator.... these are real honest hard working men aren't they?!
I was told that you pay for the boxes of food the price on the box minus £15 which is your commission. The 180,000 customers actually mean that the fish men have forced sales on 180,000 people..... mostly the elderly probably, and I would assume that very few of those actually contact DSD again for more frozen fish, any repeat business will be from the fish men going back 3 months later to hassle for some more sales.
I think that the charitable work that they do is very commendable, I’m sure that keeping up your charitable status does the world of good for the appearance of a business, but it doesn't change the attitudes and the methods of the individual salesmen, perhaps your son is different and is a good hard working salesman, but all I know is that after my interview and training days and after eventually finding out the truth after being lied to by a few people, I walked away from one of those vans the most angry I have ever been. - Billy The Fish| 2 repliesIs it a scam or not??? Lots of mixed messages here. Can someone pleases advise me.

- troy replies to LEROYI second leroy's comments. Have been working for over 2 years. As long as you work hard, stay enthusiatic, you can make 50,000 as a basic salary. I have a massive customer base, lots of repeat custom, mostly from families and wealthy people, which is exactly where our food is targeted at. I also have a lot of little old ladies who are very happy to buy from DSD. All customer feedback is genuine on website, some from my customers. The negative feedback on this website is simply from a bunch of losers who aren't prepared to work hard, believe a lot of hearsay, haven't really done much research about the food industry and clearly haven't gone to tescopoly website. Now if you want a global scam, try researching the big supermarkets.
- Rasta Ozzie| 1 replyI have noticed a gap between posting dates on this forum which I am guessing coincides with DSD advertising the jobs. The advert states that the position is PERMANENT yet it's obviously a SELF EMPLOYED role. Seems strange to me that even though I have absolutely no connection with the food industry my CV shone to them and they requested I contact them for an interview. Checked their website and it became obvious that the job wasn't as I expected it to be and it's uncanny how the names that appear in the TESTIMONIALS also appear on here being less than dignified in their comments.
So glad I found this forum, i'll save my time and money and look elswhere for a new job. - Rasta Ozzie replies to Rasta OzzieActually thinking bit clearer, shouldn't THEY be phoning ME to arrange an interview, after al they have 2 phone numbers to contact me on. Or is it just that if I phone them, THEY get a share of the call cost.
- Dazza 85| 2 repliesI agree Rasta, i applied for the Delivery Driver job yesterday, i got an email today (21/2/2011) about 4.35pm saying that they liked my CV and wanted me to contact them for an interview. They should be the ones contacting me to arrange it. I don't have any experience in sales atall but after reading different opinions on DSD, im in two minds what to do, should i go for the interview or not?
- the truth wizard replies to Dazza 85hi guys im a manager for a simular company that is simular to dsd. some comments that have been noted on this site are true. from my day to day experience working e.g cold calling on residential homes and re-selling to my existing customers the comments i hear are jaw dropping and make me feel sick. some of the fishmen at dsd are genuine lads that work hard for there money and are not pushy and are the good guys were as the other half are not. ive come across dsd customers that hav complained about how pushy some of the dsd fish men are e.g drummer aka chris. i was in witherigde nr tiverton, devon in the middle of febuary this year workin with freind who also works for us who has reciently left dsd as a fishman to find out that this desperate invidual is pushing sales on people who dont want to buy off the door. people like him destroy door sales for genuine hard polite working people like me. yes the 300 pound upfront deposit is true and the want to keep that a secret until u have finished ur days training. even if you do start to work for dsd and leave u also hav trouble getting it
bak up to 3 month is took to get one of reps money bak that works for us now even our new chap it took him 2 months to get his money bak blaming it on the internet banking has stopped working. lies. i do honestly think dsd have a good goal and vision to be a succesfull company in this market but are going the wrong way about it. i am in the same job as dsd but the way they are going there going to wreck the chance of othr people in the same game. - yeold fishfrierI was going for an interview 2mrow 24/2/11 but I dont have 300smackers. I am glad I popped on to see how to get there and found this page by chance I wont be going now, There's nothing worse than being unemployed, but to think you've got a Interview for a real job it's a kick in the teeth to find all this out. Yes I know that everbody has to make a living but what is it when you are paying them for a job. Thanks for the info guys.

- AliHi all I can say is thank you very much it is now 0030hrs and I was trying to do a little research on the company as i am suppose to have an interview with them tomorrow morning at 0930hrs don't think I will be going now. I though leaving the Army and finding a decent job would of been easy as I am a hard working individual who has been a lot of places and done/seen a lot of things but wow this company sounds like one of the worst things I have seen thank you for all your help again lads :)
- Bluebadger66| 1 replyI went for the initial interview in Wallingford and was offered the 2 days training. The guy, Martin I think his name was, started rattling off loads of figures which all sounded too good to be true about free van, £300 of stock given to you, and earning £40k.
I asked if he could give me some written information to look at before coming along to the training. He refused and said that they could not do that at this stage. Obviously something to hide.
Anyway, I went to the training which started with this scruffy looking guy saying "My name is ***, I'm a fish man with a difference. Do you like good food? Well come and have a look in my van". I only looked in his van out of politeness, but if he had come to my door I would have told him to get lost.
I started asking him questions, and found out that the do not give you stock, but you have to purchase it from them. You cannot return any stock to them - once you have got it, it is yours. So absolutely no risk by DSD. Each box would cost from £30 upwards, so to have a decent amount of stock to sell would cost you a fair amount. There is no point in having 1 or 2 boxes to show people at the end of each day.
Anyone on here who claims to work for them, and who also claims that this is not hard sell is a liar. The only people that will buy from these kind of tactics are the vunerable who are too scared to tell them to go away.
Also, I was told to expect a long day's training. Get there at 8am and get home at 9 or 10pm. To me, if you did make £40k ripping off old ladies, it would not be a £40k job, it would be 2 x £20k jobs.
I laft before getting after about 10 minutes, and I would urge anyone to steers clear. You do not earn £40k for doing nothing. - Barry Costello Monelle Delmonte replies to Bluebadger66You know, I like fish, and I like old people, because they used to buy Wills from me, but even I would not drive a van selling out-of-date fish to them. Utterly outrageous! Hoist them by their petards!
- Dining Solutions Direct| 1 replyWith regards to the comments posted about our company on this site they are purely factious and slanderous claims.
There are claims on the website that our drivers need to give us £300 to set up and that they then need to hire a vehicle from us. This simply isn’t the case; our drivers are able to supply their own vehicle to use provided it is in a good condition and less than 3 years old. However if they don’t have their own vehicle we offer a hire service, there is a £199 deposit for the vehicle but this is common when leasing vehicles. As soon as the vehicle is return in a satisfactory condition the deposit is returned just as when leasing from a hire company.
After being the market leader for over a decade we have built up a substantial customer base, with most of our customers buying again and again. We do not use hard hitting sales techniques or suit and tie salesman instead we have friendly fish man who visit our customers and allow them to browse our product selection with ease and chose if / what they would like to buy.
The claims that we target the elderly are complete fabrication, customers are not forced to buy, if they buy it is because they are interested in the high quality products that we sell – not because they are forced to buy.
The claims that are testimonials are fake is also complete fabrication, the testimonials are what our customers have written, it is illegal for a company to make up a testimonial. Last year Trading Standards came in a vetted our testimonials and were satisfied that they were all sound and legal testimonials.
We have felt it necessary to write this reply as these comments are now getting out of hand. We will not tolerate factious material being spread about the company and are now passing this on to our lawyers to deal with.
Should anyone have any comments to make please make them directly to us at info@diningsolutionsdirect.com. In the rare occasion that one of our self employed distributors / fish men uses unscrupulous sales techniques we would like to be informed so we are able to resolve the matter and speak with the distributor regarding the event.
There are many mixed statements on this website we believe some are from competitors pretending to be ex – distributors or people who have started working with us but unfortunately haven’t been successful and are holding a grudge at the company for their lack of success. We have many distributors across the country working hard and making themselves a living by doing this genuine job.
Once again our contact details are: info@diningsolutionsdirect.com or 0844 884 1111- Caller: 08448841111

- glasgow 1 replies to Dale| 1 replyi spent 70 hours a week on that horrible little van 7 days a week, i am a proffesional sales person from the car industry who has won many awards for my abilty to sell, it was a total scam i lasted 3 weeks and gave them the van back, i saw food been relabled out of date by a year i would never buy anything or would i advise any one to work for them
- glasgow 1 replies to glasgow 1ice is 6 pounds a block, you do pay 300 for you stock, you do pay your own fuel, dont let them kid you, they do relabel out of date food i have it on my phone, so if dining souloution say different then challange me, as you still owe me money, if you were to make 40,000 grand a year you would need to work 24hrs a day, i have never hated a job so much in my life im back selling to the public and would you beleive it im making 50,000 grand a year(PS AND IM PAYING TAX ULIKE THE FISH MEN)but dont worry you can keep my 300 pounds i dont need it, i have written a letter to the in land revenue and i have also sent my phone pictures to the enviromental health as one day someone will get poisned,
- Thankgodfortheinternet| 1 replyI applied from one of these positions advertised in my local paper. They phoned me to set up an interview, I asked about the wage and as soon as she said £40 OTE I knew something was wrong so I looked them up and found this. She said that they are based in Liskeard or Okehampton in my area, I've just got the text for with the interview details and its at the Premier Inn hotel. She clearly said the word 'office' on the phone.
I wont be wasting the fuel. Thanks guys. - ShropshireRules| 4 repliesI used DSD as a supplier once and for 2 years at that. It was hard work but it also paid very well. I worked hard for a huge firm and they took me to the cleaners on a daily basis. I just wasn't any good for that firm. But I was good enough for DSD and they were good enough for me.
They didn't tell me the shortcomings straight away. Just the positives. It would have been better in a more balanced way. But you have to see it working first to actually piece it up in your mind as to whether this could be for you. If you don't do this you will just see the negatives and be like all the other criticisers on here.
Having seen the way it worked, I jumped in feet first and worked for 7 punishing days a week for 3 months and then I got a glimpse of the returns. After 6 months it was looking good and after 9 months I started to get quite smug. Even then, I had bad days but I was making money and I paid an accountant and prepared the books myself. It is like any other business where you can sit back and relax after 3 years. But only after that time. If you are into listening to what people say, listen to everyone on here, listen to DSD but most of all listen to yourself and know yourself. Doing this work gets you to know a lot about yourself and how hard you want to work, and it is character building.
I asked customers for testimonials and some did them for us. I surely didn't make any up. I used to enjoy Nick's visits too and the supplier he used then was very supportive of me. It is in their interests to be supportive and the other lads were supportive too as I was to them. If you didn't listen to good advice you were putting yourself in for a beating and finally an unsuitable end.
You can't judge the customers. It is for them to decide what they will buy. I've been unsure of if elderly ppl can afford my produce but they bought and on going back I was welcomed by other family members who loved the food. I even had a policeman investigatre me once or so it seemed until he actually said he'd heard I was in town and could he see my stock. And as I was outside his house at the time...kerching.
This was an opportunity and I took it. Others didn't. Some are worse off because they didn't draw a line sooner and recognise it wasn't for them. Others did and will retire early. For the fishmen who are unscrupulous bad news does travel fast. I found that my good news was slower to travel but it got me customers. Its down to how you work it.
