- Balmysal replies to ShedbuilderJust been contacted by SAT Assist who wanted my husband. Questioned them, they said we paid £9.,00 pm month for insurance- we have just had new boxes installed so no we don't! I told them that the last company we had paid insurance to were in administration and had turned out to be a scam- surprisingly they hung up!!!
- Nessa| 1 replyHad a conversation with them sat asset very polite and offered great price i like.
- KBeeI had a call from this so called company today. I said I wasn't interested even if it ment saving £1.70 per month on sky protect. I put the phone down on the man and he had the nerve to call back! He was very aggressive screaming down the phone that I had an attitude as I didn't want to take a reference number and that he would now increase my bill!!! Charming guy!! Luckily I could smell him for the rat he was and told him I couldn't care less. I worry other people would be intimidated by these pathetic people so thought I'd share my experience to warn others.

- Andy replies to Shedbuilder| 1 replyBit unfair on genuine call centre staff. It's still a job. The trick is for people to be careful who they work for. Presumably you would like all of our services to be computerised and not be able to speak to any human being ever again?
- Shedbuilder replies to AndyI was referring to the 'staff' at Sat Assist who appear to breaking the law by calling TPS registered numbers, selling insurance without FCA registration, selling insurance to people who may already have insurance and taking advantage of the elderly. Geunine call centre staff would not operate in such a way. The sooner this bunch are shut down, the better.
- Nan replies to NessaRubbish. They are a bunch of lying scammers. But, of course, you know that because you work for them.
- shedbuilderCurrent court case in Wales agains an identical company:
Alleged Sky TV cold calling scam trial continues:
THE trial of a group accused of misleading vulnerable customers into buying Sky TV policies they often didn’t need has continued.
Further calls were played to the jury where callers from Aurora or Protect Direct said they were calling about the person’s Sky service plan.
The prosecution say Darren Smith, aged 33, of Clos Camlas, Morriston, Christopher Smith, aged 35, of Llys y Bryn in Birchgrove and Richard Smith, aged 55, of Wychtree Street in Swansea, Barbara Swain, aged 59, of Woodford Road in Blaenymaes, and Neville Watkins, aged 36, of Glanmor Road in Uplands. were part of a fraud conspiracy, something they deny. They say they were selling unnecessary policies and claiming to be from Sky.
They called people from across Wales including Swansea, Neath, Bridgend, Lampeter, Penarth and Tenby.
During the calls they were heard telling consumers they could “see from the system” that policies were expired or due for renewal.
The prosecution say because the company was not authorised by Sky there was no computer system they could see and instead they were cold calling people.
Swansea Council Trading Standards Officer Rhys Harris said after raiding their offices, the only “system” officers found was pieces of paper with people’s name and phone numbers on.
In some instances consumers told them they did not have Sky but in one call, a man was asked to confirm the model of his box. He told the caller, who the prosecution say is Barbara Swain, he only had a DVD player under his TV and she sold him a Sky policy to cover that instead.
In another an elderly man said he was “upside down” after the recent death of his wife.
Swain replied: “That’s such a shame” but then continued to try sell him a policy.
“ I don’t want to take up any of your time and cause any trouble but I want to get your renewal documents out to you,” she said. Swain then told him his wife had taken out the policy - which the prosecution contest.
The trial continues.

http://www.robertpopper.com/2009/09/30/having-a-lie-down-robin-cooper-style/ - YorkshireStu| 1 replyI have just had two calls from SatAssist this morning and it's shocking that this is still going on despite the scam being raised at least a year ago.
Have the government got no powers whatsoever to deal with these thieves?
I let the guy, called Husam supposedly, go through his spiel and he was good at it. He asked which bank I was with then gave me the first 4 digits of that bank code - when I said okay but whats the last 4 digits he reckoned they were hidden from him as a security measure. When I finally called him a thief and a liar he got really abusive and hung up on me.
Why cant anyone do anything about this company, short of calling on Mr Ahmad himself in Bournemouth !!! - Shedbuilder replies to YorkshireStuIn response to YorshireStu.
I have reported Satassist to The TPS, The ICO, Action Fraud, Bournemouth Police, HMRC, The FCA, BBC Watchdog, 2 national papers & 1 local paper. I will also record any phone calls to me when I will play along with them.
The more people who report them to all or some of the above, the sooner they will be shut down, like this bunch in Wales.
http://www.southwales-eveningpost.co.uk/Jury- ... tail/story.html - CTWe have had a lot of trouble over the last couple of years with a range of companies who called my very elderly mother purporting to be linked to Sky and providing warranties or insurance for her Sky box.
In the course of my enquiries I discovered that lists giving the names and telephone numbers of people who have had Sky are sold by 'lead generation companies' to satellite repair/warranty/insurance companies. These satellite companies then phone the people on their lists to generate business. I have had to point out to these companies that it is their responsibility to check whether a number is TPS, not just rely on the company that sold them the information. My mother has been on TPS for many years.
My mother herself ended up with four separate policies at the same time because each time she thought she was talking to Sky itself. In each case the companies seem to manage to get bank details or credit card details from people and then send out a letter. This was all dealt with, taking several days of my time.
Now it seems to be starting again. On this occasion, a company called Satassist called my mother this week. She told the man calling that he would have to speak to her son, as she doesn't deal with this sort of thing. Lo and behold, before this could happen, she received a letter referring to a 'prepaid service agreement'. Let's hope that it is a simple error.- Caller: SatAssist

- Rosie replies to coppmanthorpeHad a call from these today, very gravely voice, offered me a reduced sky protect, when I asked if they were sky. They put the phone down, about time the government sorted these people out!
- AnonOne call yesterday, one call today, around same time, 2:00 pm, from this number 08452410885, claiming to be from Sky, box no longer under warranty. Requested debit card/credit card details for instant warranty. Calmly informed them that after their last three unanswered phone calls, after dialling 1471 I came across this webpage, they instantly hung up. Reported to Sky, TPS, hope I never hear from them again, scum.

- NHAlso fell for this but realised in time and contacted them by email and letter for a refund. I had to endure a nasty conversation where they try to talk you out of the refund and demand to know your reasons...which there's no legal need for so I just didn't get into the debate and politely repeated the request for a refund for about 20 mins, till they finally gave up and it was back in the bank within 3 days. I've contacted the bank disputes and fraud team to ensure nothing else is ever taken from my account by them. Hope that helps!

- Danny Keet replies to Sharon Alexander| 4 repliesAn unconnected company, which operates in a very similar way to Satassist, is currently in court in Wales. A little glimpse of the future for the staff and director at Satassist, this from today:
ONE of the sales staff from a firm allegedly involved in a cold-calling scam said she was told to get as much money from customers as possible.
Barbara Swain, aged 59, of Woodford Road in Blaenymaes, was the fourth defendant to give evidence at the trial of people allegedly involved in misleading people into buying Sky TV service policies.
She and Darren Smith, aged 33, of Clos Camlas, Morriston, his brother Christopher, aged 35, of Llys y Bryn in Birchgrove and Neville Watkins, aged 36, of Glanmor Road in Uplands, all deny conspiracy to defraud.
The Smith's father, Richard Smith, has been discharged from the trial after becoming ill.
Swain said she had been told by Paul Delamare - who has admitted his part in the fraud - to get as much money as possible when selling even not offering a supposed loyalty bonus to customers.
Swain told the jury at Swansea Crown Court: “He said if you can get £89.99, get it, if you can get £79 try to. Get the most you could. I didn’t agree with that, I thought they should have their discount,” she said.
She was recorded telling a consumer if their Sky box broke, it would be replaced with a “brand new” box but during the trial, the jury have heard the boxes were bought from market stalls.
“I always thought it was a brand new box, right until Darren Smith said it was second hand,” she said.
She was also quizzed about telling people they were “on my system” when she was reading from a sheet of paper.
Swain said: “I had to make the customer feel comfortable to get them to trust me and that was it,” she told the jury, in the ongoing trial.
In cross-examination, Swain was asked by Peter Rouch QC: “If anyone knew what was going on it’s got to be you.”
She replied: “What’s come out at this trial has really shocked me to the core”.

Three people found guilty of Swansea call centre Sky TV fraud
Swansea Crown Court heard details of a nationwide scam to sell Sky TV policies run from a Swansea call centre
Swasea Crown Court heard details of a nationwide scam to sell Sky TV policies run from a Swansea call centre
THREE people accused of a nationwide scam to sell Sky TV policies and warranties to customers from a Swansea call centre have been found guilty.
Darren Smith, aged 33, of Clos Camlas, Morriston, Barbara Swain, aged 59, of Woodford Road, Blaenymaes, and Neville Watkins, aged 36, of Glanmor Road, Uplands, were all convicted of conspiracy to commit fraud.
They were part of a scheme where staff deliberately misled consumers into believing they were working on behalf of Sky, were taking money from customers’ accounts without consent or persuading them to renew their contracts before their policies were up.
Smith’s brother, 35-year-old Christopher Smith of Llys y Bryn, Birchgrove, was found not guilty of conspiracy charges at Swansea Crown Court.
A fifth defendant, the Smith sibling’s father, Richard Smith, aged 55, of Wychtree Street, Morriston, had also been on trial for the same offences but after he was taken ill in the witness box earlier this month Judge Paul Thomas discharged the jury from returning a verdict on him.
Swain, Smith and Watkins were released on bail pending sentencing.
Four other people involved in the scam — Jonathan Stockting, aged 51, of Northway Court, Bishopston, Michael Stockting, aged 28, of Northway Court, Bishopston, Paul Delamare, aged 40, of Clos y Maerdy, Garden Village, and 32-yar-old Jordan Diment of Lon Gwynfryn, Sketty — had all pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud on the day the month-long trial began.
During the trial the court heard staff at The Kingsway call centre misled customers and potential customers into believing they were dealing with Sky or its associated companies, and they falsely represented they were calling on behalf of a company authorised by Sky to undertake service and repair work.
The jury was told that a raid by Swansea Council trading standards officers uncovered the credit and debit card details of 7,000 people around the UK.
Sentencing in the case is expected to take place on January 10.
