Sue me why don't you, will save and make me a few bob. - SD (Rugby)| 2 repliesExpress Law!!! Please avoid this company at all costs. They cold called my mother and visited her selling Trust/Power of Attorney, unfortunately before I could put a stop to it she had handed over alot of money (more money than the job was ever worth, as we have found out), we have tried to get the money back but of course they are not complying. IF YOU ARE READING THIS AND THINKING OF WILLS, TRUSTS ETC. DO NOT CALL THIS COMPANY OR ANY OTHER COMPANY LINKED TO THEM. Get in touch with your local solicitor/financial adviser.

This company have called my elderly and somewhat confused mother now on 2 occassions, sadly while I was out.
Not only did they confuse and alarm her with talk of going into care, they also seemed to be trying to talk her into selling her flat and stated (not requested) that they would come to visit to assess the place.
Happily she had enough wits about her to refuse this. - NanCheck out 013022260023 on here. Pointed them to the 01472 number but couldn't remember this one.

Thankyou for reading.
KW - K W replies to JonJon Thankyou for your comments. We're not aware of that number, it must be a number that one of the telesales people uses to make the calls, as it's not recognised on who calls me.
In the defence of Express Law, it is not their usual practice to convince the Elderly and Vulnerable to sell their homes. They may have said the Government could force your mum to sell it, if she had to go into care and that they would come and visit with free advice and tell your mum how to stop this from happening and to protect herself.
Nevertheless we've heard from unhappy consumers via e-mail about some of Express Law's bad practices and there reluctance to deal with their local Trading Standards Office.
We understand about your concerns and you and your mum did the right thing in doing your research, stay safe and always check things out.
If you need further advice on protecting your parent's assets go to CAB, or a reputable Solicitor, Financial Advisor or a Will Writer that is registered with the Institute of Professional Will Writers (IPW).
Thankyou for reading

BEWARE!!!
Following being cold called, My mother paid £2500 to this company up front. She was taken in by the nice suit and business card and professional appearance. Internet research has revealed they have no professional indemnity insurance, they are not qualifies solicitors/ lawyers and are not bound by the same code of practice. It transpires that qualified solicitors will draw up a similar trust for approx £700. However unlike with this company, you won't need to pay solicitors up front and they have codes of practice that don't allow them to select and cold call vulnerable old people.

KW - Lawgirl replies to | 1 replyHi.
This sounds like complete misinformation and this blogger simply not understanding the service that his/her parents had instructed.
Express Law charge £95 including VAT for a will, NOT £845.
They DO however, charge £845 for creating a Protective Will Property Trust. This is an EFFECTIVE way of protecting the property, by splitting the way it is owned into two halves, rather than both people owning ALL of it. There is a fair bit of legal work involved at the land registry, hence the fee, (which is substantially below what a general practice solicitor would relieve you of), and it protects the property should one of the couple ever need to go into residential care because Local Authorities can't chase half a house!!!!!. IT IS NOT A SCAM!
If they have cancelled this simle, cost- effective solution to protecting your parents' assets you have just kissed thier peace of mind AND your inheritance goodbye.
Good luck with that. - Lawgirl replies to | 1 replyHi.

Good luck with that. - Matthew replies to LawgirlI think that £845 is a little excessive. The work that has to be done at the Land Registry is the filing of one form (an RX1) and you would have to get both joint tenants to sign a severance of joint tenancy prior to that. My firm does that for about £60.
Another name for these products is a life interest trust. A pair of those at my firm (in the relatively more expensive south of England) will cost £300 plus VAT plus the £60 (plus VAT) severance. So £432 in all, a little more than half of what Express Law charge.
And I am a solicitor of 13 years' experience, and we have £3 million of PI cover. To say that solicitors will charge more than will writers is to play on the idea that it costs a fortune just to open the door of a solicitor's office. It doesn't. - replies to LawgirlLawgirl,
my parents did not fully understand the implications of a PPT and the "salesman" scared them into the "legal" service that "Express Law" was offering.
He was in my parents home for two hours applying full pressure the entire time he was there and rather foolishly my parents signed up that day.
My parents demanded a refund within the 7 day cooling off period and no refund was credited back to their account so we decided to take direct action and travelled through to the express law office.
Another seven days went by and we went back again and had the pleasure of meeting Martin Smith.i told him that if the money was not credited back t my parents account by the close of busines at the end of the week then we would be contacting trading standards, rogue traders and the police.
I also told him that we would be back at their office every day until the refund was issued,he was extremely arrogant in his reply and basically told me that we would be wasting our time and we could do whatever we wanted.
He also asked if it was me that had put my comments on this very site,so dont think for one minute that they aint watching because they are.
This was from MARTIN SMITH one of the DIRECTORS!
Lo and behold, the refund was issued at the close of business at the end of the week.
I have since found out from an old school friend wh is a PROPER LAWYER,that the maximun price for PPT will should be up to £450!
SO LAWGIRL ARE YOU STILL TELLING ME THAT THE SERVICES OFFERED BY EXPRESS LAW ARE NOT SCAMS?
£845 FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD COST NO MORE THAN £450 FROM A "REPUTABLE" LAWYER?
Did Martin Smith ask you to put your comments on?
Are you Martin Smith?
It seems the "directors" of express law are running scared and so they should be!
DONT GET TAKEN IN BY THEM IT IS A TOTAL OVERPRICED SCAM!

Have just received 'withheld' number from Express Law offering free advice on the care act warning that we may lose our house/savings etc if one of us has to go into a home. I asked for a call-back number - hence the above - but, having read other reports on this Company on this site, I will not be calling them back !!

KW - Bella replies to K W| 2 repliesMy mother is thinking of setting up a Bespoke trust with Express Law and dont have a good feeling about this. Can anyone really explain to me what a bespoke trust is?
- K W replies to Bella| 1 replyBella Thankyou for your comments. A Bespoke Trust meaning a trust tailored to the clients individual needs. However, it takes time to establish what a client needs are and the hour or so in house service may not be enough to do this effectively.
If your mother has been quoted more than £900 then it would be advisable to look for a Reputable Solicitor or Professional Will Writer that is Regulated with the Institute of Professional Will Writers (IPW).
If you require further information then please do not hesitate to contact us at wewillgivefreeadvice@hotmail.co.uk

KW - abboj replies to patsyMy Brother was taken in by these scum bags, instead of taking £450 they took £2440, he has since died & even though his Solicitor has a letter from Express Law saying they will refund his money we are still waiting. Do not have anything to do with these evil people.
- K WTo all Readers, this morning there was a story on BBC One called 'Rip Off Britain' about National Legal Assistance (Previously Minster Legal Services (UK) Ltd) who were based in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire and Newark, Nottinghamshire.
For those of you who missed this mornings episode, you can watch it here for the next 7 days:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b018jc9d ... s_3_Episode_20/
The story is part the way through so you can skip to 17 mins and 10 seconds for the story about National Legal Assistance.
Legal Assistance 4 U Ltd T/A National Legal Assistance (based in Newark) were closed down by the Insolvency Service along with Legal Assistance Ltd T/A National Legal Assistance and Minster Legal Services (UK) Ltd (both based in Gainsborough).
Joseph Graham Croft (also known as Graham Croft) and Matthew Appleyard (also known as Matthew Appleby and Matthew Jones) ran National Legal Assistance in Newark and when this was closed down, they opened their doors as Inheritance Protection Services (IPS). They were trading from the same address with much of the same staff.
Inheritance Protection Services have recently changed their name (again!) to:

Please be vigilant when approached by these Companies and other similar to them, that cold call and offer you services which require up front payment and at significantly high prices.
On average, a Trust for Property Protection should cost no more than £500. So please don't be fooled into paying a higher price for a 'Bespoke Trust' as all Trusts should be tailored to your individual requirements.
We would also like to wish all Readers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and Stay Safe.
Thankyou for reading.
