Optical Express plans to create 100 new jobs in Glasgow
The eye company, Optical Express, is to open 24 new clinics in the UK and create 100 customer care jobs in Scotland.
The group, which is based in Cumbernauld, already runs 180 stores across Europe, employing about 3,000 people.
The new jobs will be at the firm's call centre in Glasgow.
The company said the clinics will be based in out-of-town locations where rents are cheaper.
As well as laser eye surgery, Optical Express offers other health care services including cosmetic surgery.
The firm said the new clinics will make eye surgery more accessible to many people.
Hugh Kerr, operations director of Optical Express said: "Our strategy is to continue to invest in our service offering to deliver the best eye care treatment solution available in the UK, whether that be spectacles, contact lenses or laser eye surgery.
"This investment and recruitment drive underscores our commitment to deliver the most technologically advanced service in the UK but also at the lowest possible cost to the consumer."
The 100 new customer services jobs will be created at the company's call centre in Glasgow" - GBELook on the Optical Express Dental website. They closed Inverness and now its open again. They have now closed Oxford. Weird things afoot.

sorry i never noticed how close i was to you but so flattered---- so .... please tell us all why you wont take me to court? - Tag replies to ShouldhavegonetoSpecsavers| 1 replyVision Express has opened a new flagship store on London’s Oxford Street.
The store, which is spread across three floors and features state-of-the-art examination rooms and a dedicated contact lens area, was officially opened by Vision Express CEO, Jonathan Lawson, and brand ambassador, chef Heston Blumenthal.
The opening comes at a challenging time in retail. Only a few weeks ago Optical Express announced it would be closing 40 practices. “Any news at the moment regarding the High Street tends to be negative and tends to be about stores closing rather than opening,” said Mr Lawson. “To open a store like this you have to have a really clear belief that you have a great brand, a great team of people and a business performing well.”
The store houses brands including Ralph Lauren, Guess, Ray-Ban, Hugo Boss, Prada, Tom Ford, Cartier and Alexander McQueen, in addition to the largest collection of Oakley eyewear anywhere in Europe. It also stocks a collection of custom-made bespoke frames from British designer Tom Davies.
Mr Blumenthal is working with Vision Express to create a signature range of eyewear which will be available exclusively through Vision Express early next year.
“Both eyewear and eye care are very important to me,” said Mr Blumenthal. “If you think about what I do with my cooking there is so much more than just the ingredients. I wanted to apply this to eyewear.
“I am excited about the work that we have done with Vision Express. When you look at all of the layers behind a pair of glasses there’s reasons behind the design, and so when the opportunity arose to design my own glasses I wanted to be involved in every stage of the design process. I hope that everyone is excited as I am about the new range.” - Wondering replies to TagDeletions .
Sorry moulsdale - in my opinion he must have a very unsuccessful personal life .
Maybe that's why it seems like he is waiting all year for the optical express Christmas parties so he can maybe hire his special bedrooms for him to take his next targets - I suppose we should all feel sorry for moulsdale
It must be quite sad to go through life as unfulfilled as he seems to be .
Since I think Moulsdale may think that the female aspect of his workforce are worthless enough for him to behave in this manner I wonder whether he has been hiring these rooms on company expenses ? Surely the money was better spent paying the rent or giving a few hard working employees a pay review ?
Oh yes sorry I forget - it looks like moulsdale isn't even going to tell them which store is closing next either ?
Did we really expect anything better from David Moulsdale ? - Nemesis replies to Danny| 1 replyDanny
Your summary tells it exactly as it is. OE only pay lip service to 'screening,
' patients for suitability for laser surgery. I suspect councellors and optometrists feel under pressure to pass as many patients through as suitable (despite obvious concerns about suitability) I have asked Mr Moulsdale the question ref financial incentives to pass as many patients as possible - just to give him the opportunity to confirm or deny this but he has chosen to ignore the question.
With the benefit of hindsight, I have approached other providers to ask the question re suitability for surgery with (in my case dry eyes) pre existing problems. The approach to screening( even BEFORE any consultation) has no resemblance to the OEapproach which is the way it should be given that provisers are dealing with people's sight.....I agree with Danny's analogy to OE being the mcDonalds/KFC arm of the laser provision industry....pack em in like cattle and just hope too many won't complain of problems.
E's - Danny| 1 replyEven if the councellors and optometrists feel under pressure to put through as many people as possible, they should not blatently lie about their suitability and put their vision at risk, should they? To do this should be a criminal offence.
I am a victim of this practise, I was lied to systematically throughout my horrid time seeing them, at my consultation I specifically asked the optom about certain issues that could give night time issues, i'd done research prior to my consultation and figured if i'm at risk of these things then I would just walk away, not worth the risk, but they lied to me when I asked directly if these issues affected me and are my eyes suitable etc, they just sat back and said I was a perfect lasik candidate, this is what really annoys me now, knowing they lied and purposely damaged my vision permanently just to make money, the people responsible should be jailed for wrecking my sight.
From my file it shows they had all the info before the consultation, the tests they did (which was basic but showed up major issues, they didnt even do wavescans on me!) showed up the problems and any proper optom or surgeon who acts with integrity would have said do not do this as your eyes are at a massive risk.
Their whole system is based on lies and untruths from start to finish, they lie to get you to sign up, once your eyes have been damaged because you really weren't suitable for laser treatment then they put you in their complex care team, they fill you with promises of fixes etc for just long enough until your 3 year legal limitation period is up, then once they know you cant sue them, they will get rid of you instantly and drop you like a hot potato.
Luckily for quite a few of us we are now pursuing negligence claims, they don't have a leg to stand on but it will take time as these things tend to do, but I know that justice will be done.- Caller: optical express

- My Beautiful Eyes replies to NemesisOne of my previous MBE clients, who should never have undergone surgery, has now moved on to litigate against OE, and recently received their required medical report from an independent specialist.
The report states that, "an optometrist without any clinical training" carried out the pre-op assessment and decision to recommend the patient as suitable for surgery.
The specialist's report also points out that the assessment & management prior to surgery should have been carried out by the operating surgeon.
As this is one of the main points of my campaign for government legislation it's heartening to hear this from yet another ophthalmic surgeon!
(I will be calling on that surgeon to repeat his documented opinion when the time comes btw)
I have spoken to a few ex OE optoms who assured me they were under enormous pressure to meet targets, in the same way the 'counsellors' & call centre staff are.
I accept that, but fail to understand how anyone in a position of trust, with a responsibility to their patient, would deliberately put a persons vision at risk simply to keep their job?
Perhaps in the mistaken belief, or hope, that the surgeon will make the decision not to operate so putting the onus on him!

- Michele| 7 repliesI am now 23 days post lasek surgery and have problems seeing out of my left eye. Have been to have a sight test with an independent optician and have been told that my astigmatism is now three twice as bad as it was before I had surgery. Went to Optical Express for a check up and informed them that I felt that my left eye was swollen only to be told that the pressures where fine and that everything should settle over the next few weeks, they changed my steroid drops from FML to Dexamethasone Sodium Phoshate and told me this would speed up the healing process, now even I know that the new drops are for inflammation, I paid £2800.00 for this surgery and even after 23 days I'am still wearing glasses because of the induced astigmatism - very disappointed with the results and feel robbed of my money

Thanks for your reply.
However, as I am campaigning for government legislation (see www.epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/28629) & provide a free independent advisory service (My Beautiful Eyes), responsible for helping many patients damaged by refractive eye surgery, I would think it in the interests of your review contributors to allow my links & name to remain. Especially given that Optical Express are allowed to post their names (eg Stephen Hannan & Lynsey Shaw) & contact details.
You have quite a number of patients complaining of problems on your site, most of whom I'm able to help if allowed to respond. As you will have seen by my posts you have chosen not to publish, I simply wish to offer contact details so these people know where to find help.
Otherwise, I have to believe that the reason for your censorship in my case is simply not to upset your advertisers - as has been proven with another forum profiting from advertising OE & others.
Details of all forums involved in this issue are being published on a new website coming soon, and will be included in discussions with the MPs & legal team working with me to introduce legislation.
I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Sasha Rodoy

'Her' email address shown, contrary to what the ReviewCentre team told me in their 1st message!
I am of course asking the ReviewCentre team for an explanation! - edited repost replies to My Beautiful EyesSummary of
Views and comments from forum on David Moulsdale- the owner of Optical Express
1. He has no interest in the wellbeing of his workforce, which is why he abuses his position of trust as an employer to prey on and get involved with young females (employees) through lies , hires multiple bedrooms at his Optical Express Christmas parties and gets his PA to pick up for him. I think he therefore demonstrates his attitude towards the the duty of care he has towards his employees.
2. Someone anonymous called 'ex' has written on this forum , insinuating that David Moulsdale is using drugs. It is rumoured previous to this that Moulsdale has been using cocaine according to 'speechless.'
3.He is so interested in the best standards of eye care that he (as Sasha Rodoy alleges) has offered a government campaigner a bribe- in contravention to the bribery act and the law, not to campaign for government legislation in laser eye- surely the better option was to work with her?
4. It has been suggested by a commentor on this forum that David Moulsdales senior employee, Patrick James Green who was allegedly sent to bribe Sasha Rodoy, was also , allegedly a murder suspect in the disappearence of an unsolved young man's disappearence, alleged by a commentator on this forum
5. In Personnel Today 2005 it was reported as follows
'Optical Express/The Dental Clinic has been accused of managing its staff badly and ignoring employment regulations. Personnel Today has received a letter from a source close to the company detailing a number of questionable employment practices - all of which have been denied by the management.'
6. David Moulsdale been reported in the papers to have affiliations with a well known scottish gangster.
7. He has no problem with removing feedback about him from the internet (eg this forum, ex staff of optical express facebook pages and wikipedia) so and trying to inimidate people to not be involved in saying anything negative about him- probably so he can drag more people into his fantasist life of no consequences.
8. David Moulsdale has had his company offer complaining customers refunds - allegedly( Orml info) only when they sign a gagging order stopping them from telling others about their experience. see opticalexpressruinedmylife.co.uk
9. some customers who have struggled to get refunds and or compensation have written testimonies on opticalexpressruinedmylife.co.uk-
10.There are comments on this forum suggesting people feel intimidated by Moulsdale eg .'bob etc'
11. Moulsdale has borrowed heavily from RBS (to make his millions) which has been bailed out by taxpayers to run a business which has recently caused an 80 store subsidary go into administration and job losses, causing tensions with landlords as reported in the Telegraph
12. in 2007 Optical Express became engaged in a dispute with HMRC . This was over a disputed 10.9 million pounds in taxes. - Nemesis replies to DannyI agree Danny.....arguably OEs dubious tactics amount to deception with a view to profiting financially. I'm not sure how far in legal terms this can be construed as criminal...with hindsight I certainly get the impression that employees feel they mut adhere to some dubious practices to 'please the boss' and quite likely to earn their pay/keep their jobs??
