- another disgruntled employeethe place is a total dump to put it nicely. the team leaders are constantly on your back about making enough calls and booking enough people. it used to be quality over quantity but its clear now that all they are about is numbers. they have tried to sack myself and other polite, well mannered advisors because we dont book enough people!! i genuinely feel bad about phoning at 9am and through until 9pm - so much so that i do try not to by wasting time and hiding in the toilet! im sorry for all the people that i have directly and undirectly p***ed off but as said before its a job, a stepping stone towards something better!!

- ex employee againwell what a joke of a company. The pressure and hassle that we are put under is crazy. Call this patient, call that patient. Why did they not book? Why did you not say this, that and the next thing?
I totally sympathise with everyone on here and everyone else who has had a call from Optical Express. They are money grabbing, no heart and completley unsympathetic to their customer/potential customers.
I agree with the comments made by other former employees and would just add that it is not all the Managers in the call centre that are jobs worths, some are actually not too bad, however one person in particular seems to be at the centre of it all and that is the Call Centre Sales Manager (no names) what a power hungry, unsympathetic, heartless, nasty woman she is. Does not care about how she treats or speaks to people. Constantly on the backs of the managers and advisors.
The people who work for OE are their only for a job and for the most to get them through Uni/College, it is a difficult working environment and I understand totally why you are all so annoyed with them.
We call people for a number of different reasons. Either you have filled in the competition form, you have completed a survey with someone over the phone or online (this is where the problems really are, as they survey company just put whatever answers they want and pass it on to OE), you are actually intersted or have clicked on an ad somewhere and entered your details. If you dont want calls, my advice, dont complete any form or if you really want to put a wrong number in.
The competition is a way for the company to get you through the door, you will only be entered if you actually go for a consultation and are suitable.
Please dont shout and scream at the people on the other end of the phone they are only doing what they are being asked by the owner of the company and the sales manager...boooo.
The treatment it self is excellent but the hassle people get before that is mental, unwarranted and unacceptable. Take it from me, if the people working there had a choice they would not be there.
I was there for about 6 months and hated every single minute of this. Other advisors, some of the managers and the sales manager all made life hell. If you dont make enough calls, dont get enough bookings for the day and per hour, off the phone too long, not enough bookings within a 7 day period you would be more than likely be sacked. One of the worst companies i have ever worked for.
DONT GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS if this is the way they treat potential customers.

- GeriConstantly harassed, sunday mornings/friday nights, the list is endless of calls, I have reverted to turning my phone off so therefore they only get through to my voicemail, no message left, this has been ongoing for 2 months, I live in Ireland so they are extending their malicious tentacles. Spare me. Unbelievable, unwarranted and borders on criminal behaviour, total disgrace.

My best advise is to not ignore the calls, trust me the hint will not be taken - best thing to do is answer and to clearly advise that you are not interested - ignoring it will only make it worse.
Too the ex-employees on this i understand your frustration and empathise with you (apart from one who left comments clearly showing they are in some sort of management position and think the sun shines out of optical expresses behind) having worked with a similar company i feel the pain and stress.
For the people who talk about entering the laser competition and talk about how they did not expect to be called and are annoyed and feeling harrassed, my advise would be to always read terms and conditions (or any small print) before leaving any personal details on any type of website/competition. If a phone number is being asked for, you will be called. If an email address is being asked for, you will be emailed. If you leave a home address, you will receive post - this information is not asked for the heck of it, there is clearly a motive or marketing ploy!- Caller: Optical Express

- OE employeeI agree with "anonynous". Probably the worst thing that you can do is not answer and ignore the calls because unfortunately you WILL get another call even if you hang up as the mangament will just say "they could have been driving".
I am absoloutly mortified that we have to call people after 6:30pm on a friday night or any night in fact unless it has been requested.
The OE management are probably put under as much pressure as we are - although I'm not sticking up for some of them as they have absoloutly no common sense and would be far more successfull if the feedback for the "customer care centre advisors" was taken on board. I was working on Christmas eve (who wants to book a laser consultation or a sight test or speak to a call centre on Christmas eve!!! Madness!) when the owner of OE, David Moulsdale, asked a manager what time we were open untill, when the manger replied 4:30pm the owner said in anger,
"What? This is a call centre! It should be open until 9pm!"
Excuuuuuuse me! I wanted to smash my monitor off his face and I'm not an aggressive person. Better still, I wish I had suggested that he stays till 9pm on Christmas eve and invite patients to a laser consultation and let the abuse come rolling in! It still makes my blood boil to this day!
So yes, while most of the management team are unexperienced, incapable and not very smart, I am sure that they are under as much pressure as we are, however could definately manage it better.
The majority of the OE employees, infact who am I kidding, ALL of the OE employees hate the company as it is a complete dead end job which does not utilise it's teams skills and does not offer any room for developmewnt within. Which in my mind is a recipe for disaster and is costing them a fortune as the turn over is about 60% (so I've heard).
But sadly, like many of my colleagues, im stuck as the jobs pays suprisingly well for a - lets be honest - a pretty simple job (with a stressfull, mind numingly boring side to it) and I am stuck here until I go to uni in September.
To anyone who feels harrassed, irritated, frustrated with the amount of calls that you have recieved, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, call us on 0800 023 20 20 as we will be absoloutly over the moon to remove you from the database as it does not affect anyones stats, contary to belief, as employees should have nothing to be affraid of as long as they are doing their job correctly. I have always removed patients that have requested to be removed and have never had any problems.

Everyones moaning about David Moulsdale as if he's an evil man when he's not, at the end of the day what would you do of that was your company. For the people that are moaning also that he doesn't care obviously don't know him at all so you've got no right to comment and at the end of the day the only reason your able to pay your bills etc is because David's given you a job. David is not money orientated that most of you are making him out to be, I've met David on numerous occasions and he's far from heartless and evil. The laser treatment is absolutly brilliant and so are management. If your being moaned at all the time then your obviously not doing your job properly and to have the nerve to slag the man and he's company off when he's paying your wages is discustin. Optical Express is a brilliant company and the people in the call centre are far from thick and useless. David has always employed the best from staff to surgeons.

This is what happened to me, but i asked for them to take me off there list and iv never had a call from them since......did you ask them nicely, or did you go to town on the operator??
I know ppl who work in call centres who have kept ppl on there mailing lists because the person was rude or cheeky to them....lol At the end of the day, the call operators are just doing there job and dont need ppl having a go or being rude to them.

I don't think that anyone has made david out to be evil and i have also met him on occaisions and he has been pleasant enough but you must admit as OE emplyee said who would want to be called at that time holiday or not regardless of your religion. That is rediculous.
I agree that if you are getting pressure then it probably is because they are not doing a very simple job right.
Also i'm sorry but if you have been there for six years and really adore this job so much then good for you! but i pitty you because for most people they need a job that is a bit more...challenging you could say.
