I commented on 23rd October 2009.  Just to let you all know its a company called Venista - they do wallpapers & ringtones.  I rang their Customer Care dept & left a message for someone to ring back and THEY DID!  Spoke to a really nice guy called Dave & he couldnt apologise enough.  He promised they would delete me from their computer & would send me a cheque for my £5 credit - GUESS WHAT - my cheque arrived this morning!!!  I have had one more message saying there is an SMS mess waiting but this came just after i'd spoken to him so it obviously wasnt on their system yet.  I rang them again & he said to ignore it & it will just go after 24hours.  All i can suggest to people is to ring them up & when you get the recorded message saying someone will ring you back within 24hours, please let your number cos they will get back to you.  The number you need is 0870 6091720.  Good luck!!

I just got a video message which needed downloading, the web address began with 'http://w03.w478.net'. I suspected a virus so I typed it into my pc's browser address bar and was offered a file to run or download, but it was only a few bytes and obviously not big enough to be a video. I then Googled it and found a few warning links including this one.
I deleted the message off my phone without clicking on the link (I'm with Orange btw) and I've received nothing else since, so think I'm ok. I'll post again if anything happens. nick w.

Just recieved the same thing as Nick, I am also with Orange. I didn't click the link so I should be safe from it.

If you don't recognise the sender, don't open it!

I am with Orange too. Received this evening from w03.w478.net address & have not responded to it nor asked for it, my number is registred with the TPS, which does not cover SMS etc. The sender number is "unknown"!

    NOT HAPPY!

The domain w478.net is registered via 1&1 Germany to a German company

Just a thought, perhaps complaints to Trading Standards, Watchdog, ofcom, local MP & the numbers above might move things on?. Or rather off.

Just received a text saying to download a video message. I was suspicious, and like others I googled it and found this site.
There is not a senders number attached to this one, and if I try to get the details I only get the option to delete.
    The address on my one is;
    http://w03.w478.net/app/v4/FvPqxEdc/nYkkjbhde ... /15xOL_2zyb_nj/
Thanks to all who have written here - I am going to delete it on reading your comments about it. So easily could have got caught though.By the way - I am on orange like many of you.
    Thanks everyone.

I am on 3. Got a text message telling me I have got a video message. Address as the W03W.net I pressed  the "enter" button on phone but luckily got a blank screen. Don't know if 3 is actually blocking this sender for me? Checked my usage for 4 days now. Nothing has been incurred yet.

Is it possible to report this company to the police? As what they are doing is just equivalent to THEFT.

Got a text from this company and thinking it was from my mobile company opened it and it cost me £5, if anybody gets a text saying it is a customer service message do not open it as it costs you money and they do not answer their phone when you call, it is all answer machines.

Left a message yesterday saying I had had a video from a company who turned out to be Venister, which cost me £5 which I had not asked for, I phoned this company and today I had a reply from a very nice lady who said they would refund my money and I should receive a cheque within the next 7-14days, so will keep you informed if I receive the cash back.

Just had this sent it me as well. A service message, which i opened. Then it went into w2mobile.com.i let it open , then as i couldnt see a message like i thought I would I closed it, 5 mins later I got message taht say I had downloaded a video, which i def had not.
outcome, i rang O2, they set up block on receiving service messages and unsolicited texts. They told me to reply to message with word STOP which i did. They have messaged back saying I have been cancelled. Now I wait to see if I am charged. A complete scam, someone should find out who is doing this and stop them.IT IS SCAM AND SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED

Just had  money taken from my phone account for a video service I did not subscribe to.  Consumer Advice directed me to the regulator - PayPhonePlus who offer the following advice - suggest everyone takes the time to complain.

"If you were charged for the text and don't think you signed up to receive it, then call PhonepayPlus on 0800 500 212 (Mon-Fri, 8am-6pm) or fill in our online complaint form.  You will need the number that the text message came from and the content of it when you submit your complaint."

I received a message stating it was a Service Message which I assumed was from Vodaphone.  When I pressed 'show' it suddenly started 'downloading'.  I deleted it but then got another message thanking me for downloading a video.  I checked on my account and have been charged £3.83 for 'text info service'.
Have texted STOP to 83044 as advised above and have phoned 0870 6091720 (Venista) and asked them to ring me with reimbursement details, not holding my breath though.  Have tried the PhonepayPlus website but their links don't seem to work.
