I received a call from the number 091399 today at 14.37 A a man with a strong Indian accent saying someone from this number had a back accident last year. I asked all the questions as people from earlier posts did and he said he was working for a semi government funded department and under the data protection could not give me any info but expected me to give him it.  I told him no one had an accident but he would not take no for an answer.  I eventually ended the call and told him not to call again I am in the west yorkshire area so looks like they are not targeting specific areas but I wonder how they pick you out?

    1st May 2010 Essex.
Just had a man on the phone asking if anyone had an accident in the last 2 years. Said he was from the accident investigation bureau in London, and that it was a government organisation looking at giving compensation. He had an accent, maybe Indian. I told him no, but he insisted someone in the household had had an accident in the last couple of years, and suggested it may have been a car accident. I asked him where he got my number from, and he said it was on the information he had about an accident. I had no doubt this was a scam, so I asked him for his name and telephone number, just so that I could verify who he was and who he worked for, he told me his name was Mark Simon, but wouldn't give me a telephone number, he told me the extensions kept changing all the time. I said an extension wasn't important, just the main number, but he would not give it to me. I told him he was obviously a bogus caller, that it was an obvious scam and that I would report him. He got very rude, and was still shouting into the phone when I hung up.
    Nice.
I dialled 1471 and 0091399 came up, I looked on the internet, and found a warning posted by suffolk police from earlier in the year warning about such calls.

He's still about, but maybe targetting the Essex area now.

He's obviously started in Cambridgeshire too.  I have just takken his call and challenged him to explain who he was and how he had got my number.  I told him I thought he was a cold caller and refused to give any information.  I asked him if he was a private company and he said "No, an organisation"  when I asked him what the difference was, he hung up.  Irritating and possibly frightening to anyone living on their own.

Same here, we have had 2 calls so far, heavy Indian accent and a lot of back ground noise!  I said if he had our number he should have our name and address so could put his questions in writing - said he didn't have that info due to data protection- only phone number!  Tried to shout me down - I made my self heard and hung up!

I seem to have joined the club of people who have been called by this person asking if anyone had an accident recently, claiming to be from an accident investigation bureau, checking about the injury they sustained.
I asked what name they had but he said he couldn't reveal personal information (though no doubt wanted some), ditto for address. When if he could say when the incident was he said about 2 years, so I told him this property changed hands last year although the phone number did not change (actually all true, otherwise I would have been immediately certain this was a scam - and may have invented that to end the call) so suggested it may have been the previous owner and he would have to find so other way to contact them.
Straight after my 1471 call, I searched for the strange 091399 number online and saw the extent of this. They could be using a random dialler, so not targeting any particular UK region, but Is anyone official looking into tracing the origin of this and taking some action?

We got this call on 25/05/2010, claiming to be from the Accident Investigation Bureau. Heavy indian accent. He said he was calling about the accident that occurred in the last two years (note the phrasing there) and to discuss the injuries that were sustained.

Now, I did have a car accident back in February, but there were no injuries. He didn't seem to like hearing this and insisted that there were. I told him I didn't think there was such a thing the Accident Investigation Bureau, and he said "Well there is and I'm just doing my job". I said there were no injuries to discuss, and he gave up with "OK I don't think I can help you then" and hung up.

1471 came back as "we don't have the number" but I suspect it was the same guy. We'd had a previous call from a similar sounding (and dubious) caller offering compensation on loans and credit cards, again very insistent. In both cases, no details given. I think whoever this is is trying their luck any way they can.

Had a call from same in Yorkshire. Same format as other posters. I told him you have got wrong number and hung up. Obviously on auto call as he called again within 5 seconds. This time was Foxtrot Oscar. I am on TPS and ex-directory. How did they get the number?

Major scam needs to be publicised.

Tried me too (Devon). Twice now and I was pretty rude the first time so they are very persistent! Name of Sean with a strong indian accent. Didn't wan't to provide an address for the "Government supported Bureau". I did have an accident last year so I suspect that they got hold of a list from the wretched ambulance chasers that I had to deal with from my insurers.
    No number on 1471 check.

Yeha, I too just got a call from this numbe (091399)

My wife had an accident earlier this year, and I had a minor one a couple of years back.  However, neither of them required a GP visit.

However, when the person spoke (again strong Indian accent) and told me that he was from the Accident Investigation Bureau I was initially alarmed (for about 30 secs)   I asked him

    - Who he was (no answer given)
    - How he got my number (from my GP apparently -   which is rubbish, because of data protection act that he so often refers to, GP would can not hand that info out)
    - What accident ? (he managed to narrow it down to 2 years)

After listening to his rubbish , I told him to 'f**k off (and other far less pc words)  and hung up

It would be interesting to see out of the number of people who have received these calls, who HAS actually had an accident.
If there is a large number, could be be that information has been passed/ sold by insurance companies to these people (there was a story in the new a while back, where people from Indian call centers had been selling client information to a 3rd party)
