Got same call last night - asian accent - I asked which company he was calling from and he just gave some 'department' called accident investigation. Then I asked if he was with the police and he said yes. I asked which police force and he wouldn't answer. I told him he was talking nonsense and hung up - SUB HUMAN SCUM

    Suspicious too
Phone call 25 April 2011. Man phoned from number 091399. Said he was calling about a 'motor accident' I had. I said when was the accident? He wasn't sure - then he said 'last year'. I said 'When last year?' He didn't know. He didn't seem to know my name - he just said 'Someone on your number had an accident'.
I asked where his company was and he said 'Manchester' but it sounded like a call from overseas.
I asked several questions like 'What is your name? What is the name of your company?'
I couldn't hear his mumbled replies.
I could hear a female in the background phoning someone else with a similar story.
He seemed irritated that I was suspicious and he hung up.
I guess it was one of those 'No win No fee' companies trying to drum up business for themselves.

Received a call from this number (2011/05/11 16:08) but didn't pick it up as I had my hands in the sink at the time.  Messaging service recorded a silent call.

Just had a phone call off this number.
When i said Hi, the people on the other end continued in a conversation laughing and joking with each other.
Then the rude man, with an indian accent told me his name was 'steven brown' (very indian like!)
And that a motor car accident had been reported from my house. When i told him no one had reported anything he replied ... 'ok sorry for the disturbed you... BYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE' very professional.

    Down right SCAM.

Yes - I also got called by someone with an indian accent, calling about someone who had an accident 2 years ago who was on this number.  I said that no-one on this number had an accident 2 years ago.  He insisted they did. I insisted they didn't and said good-bye.

What caused concern was that the phone rang, then when i picked it up, it rang at the other end.  I was worried this was some kind of call re-routing type scam, where somehow a bill for a large number that you were not aware of calling ends up on your bill.  I haven't had my bill yet, but if this happens I will report it here.

I'm glad there are others experiencing this.  I wonder what they are up to.

Had a call from this number yesterday, sounds like the same guy having a very deep indian accent. Just thought I would post some useful and obvious points here as no one seems to have said anything different.

#1 They do not have access to any records, so don't worry.

#2 It doesn't matter if you are ex-directory or TPS registered, they use an auto dialler.

#3 Do not give out details, they (he) is farming for genuine accident victims and then selling the details onwards to other scumbag solicitor types probably for as much as £500 a number.

#4 Changing your number is drastic action, its an auto dialler not a list.

#5 As someone has probably tried this, you cannot call the number back. The originating number has been masked and probably originates from a free VOIP (voice over broadband) service. It is not blocked by anonymous call reject because a number is provided by the caller (even though its a bogus number)

    ----

So I bet someone is wonder how I know this stuff, well its a pet hate of mine.  Its not rocket science and the information you need to mask your number is available on the internet (but is easy to do with a free voip service), auto diallers can be run from your pc and there are a few free programs out there to download.  Anyone can set themselves up and make dirty money for free or with little cost and theres no comebacks as your original number is not published on caller id.

My mother in law received a call from this number today (at her address with a Wolverhampton dialling code). When she challenged the male as we had registered her with TPS, he charmingly told her to 'f**k off, b***h'. Lovely. She is really upset by this, as you can imagine, especially as she has just had major surgery and struggled to get to the phone. SCUM.

    Here we go, people

If at any time you get an unexpected telephone call answer in a strong Mexican accent (it's easy) and keep saying "Ello" in as gravelly a voice as you can . . . . they soon f**k off; anyone calling legitimately will stumble over this and ask "is so and so in?" Trust me, never fails

Trespasser has good advice,  this person is fishing for information about any accident you may have had within the last three years, when he asks if you have had an accident in the last three years just say it was 5 years ago,  I did this and he was off the line in seconds otherwise if you don't want to speak to him just put the phone down on the table and leave it for a while, they are paying for the call, just hang up later.
