I have been charged on my optus account more that $20 for 7 transactions.(all at the sametime).  I called Optus, they first made out that this time as a gesture of goodwill they would refund the amount. But they can't tell me how & when I signed up for the service. It was only then that I got angry with them as I don't remember/ agreeing to a service. I never received any service / text/ phone call etc. There is no record of a call or text message on my phone on that day. ( I never erase the history).
So I got on the web and googled the number on my bill. & found this website.
I am more than happy to pay for things that I request and use. But this is a scam & something needs to be done.

I am receiving  sms adviding me that I have been billed $15 for subscription toMobile Active Appy Club Plus $10 weekly with a phone number 1300886534 and a stop 19776600. I am not aware of making any commitment to this Company.
Calling their phone has so far been fruitless I got an answering machine and sending sms does not work.I will try again next monday to get them off my back.

I just got 2 of these messages saying i was charged $5 on each occasion, I never subscribe to any of this crap so it's a scam of some sort.

I rang the 1300 886534 number and followed the prompts and now it says I am unsubscribed, which was surprisingly easy.. Hopefully it worked though, I am with Telstra.

    Annoyed
I received 2 SMSs saying I had been billed a total of $25. I rang Optus who advised that they will now bar the phone number and I would not receive any further SMS from that company. They also said that if the amount is reflected on my next bill, Optus will credit my account.

I would have thought that due to negative PR and possible illegal activity, it would be in the telco's interests to bar such numbers to all customers. Does anyone know whether telco's have the technical capacity to do so?  I can see this particular scam has been going on for well over a year.

    Better things to do...
I just got 2 text messages to. I had the torch application open on my iPhone and must have accidentally hit a banner ad "stress less with these simple tips... Click here"!
Just called Vodafone and they told me to dial 1300886534to deactivate the subscription. Just received another text from AppyClub saying 'sorry to see you go, you've been unsubscribed".

20 minutes since the first text, I better not get charged the $15 membership and $10 week fee.

Certainly not stressing less!! What scammers...

I had the same happen to me. Vodafone will not accept a complaint as they say they cannot do anything about third party charges. They advise you to call mobile active to complain.
Ihave made a complaint to the telecommunications ombudsman who is investing it and requesting that Vodafone refund the money as Vodafone are responsible for third party charges.
The Department of fair trading were very helpful and escalated my complaint. Hopefully we can stop this scam.

Yup i just got done by this same scam. I igonored the "appy club" notifications of $10 being deducted weekly from my account as i asssumed it was a scam as i had never signed up for anything. Now i find my phone bill is $40 in the red! Needless to say i am furious as i have never purchased an app in my life and now i find myself robbed of $40 for something i never signed up to! Unbelievable that a company is able to get away with such obvious illegal practice in Australia.

We just called Optus with the exact same problem.
The tech support has just barred the phone number and looked into how to remove the charges. Originally he said we would have to contact the third party to get the charges removed, but since they are difficult to contact and we never subscribed to it we insisted Optus take responsibility.
He told me that this type of service is called a psms third party service (for ease of explaining it if you need to call them and complain) and said that he would personally field the next bill due and reduce it by the amount that has been billed. They are also looking into the access this third party has to phone numbers. What they are doing is randomly selecting numbers and billing them (since it is not only an Optus problem) and the tech support guy said he is going to escalate this issue so it does not happen again . In my opinion it should never have happened in the first place, but at least we are assured it has been resolved.
Further looking into this company  it appears they have been charged with misleading conduct before, so I am going to follow up tomorrow with Fair Trading.
Here is the link to an article about their previous dodgy practices.
