I've emailed copies of my Vodafone Bill to Kelly Glanville - Refunds Coordinator at GLOBAL ONE MOBILE CUSTOMER SERVICE (as they had requested) and understand that they shall now issue a cheque to me for the $50.50 charged so far.

    I hope this helps you.

    Cheers - I hope

I just called Vodafone. And won with no screaming or shouting.

Give them the SMS details and tell them immediately (and politely) that you have contacted The Department of Fair Trading and the TIO and that you were advised to recoup the charges from your service provider. Also request that premium SMS are barred on your service.

No arguments, no complaints, 2 min phone call. Vodafone is slowly starting to redeem themselves in my eyes after many poor service encounters. I have just recieved SMS confirmation of the refund and the barring of premium SMS.

Go Vodafone - Go jump Applyclub, or whatever the hell your name is...

This is a scam, but people must take responsibility for their actions.

The telco does not get a cut of these premium SMS's. The scammers charge the Telco, the exact cost is passed on. Telco's are not fan's of these kinds of services.

Why? Because people see stupid ad's saying they will win an ipad/iphone/whatever, put their number in without reading the fine print or researching anything at all into who they are giving their details to, and get charged for these premium services.

Then they call the telco, and complain that they got scammed.

The reasons the Telco expect you to pay for this is 1) the cost that is passed on is the SAME cost the telco incurs- they are not making money off this 2) YOU signed up for a "free" ipad/whatever, and did not look into the fine detail, and YOU are responsible for your actions. The Telco should not be expected to cover the costs for you being silly and signing up your mobile number with scams like this

........wait am I expecting Australian's to take responsibility for their actions? Sorry, was in that weird alternate universe for a minute, mah bad

Hi Allan, thank you for the advice, however I complained directly to the telecommunications ombudsman and they got in touch with Vodaphone to resolve the problems within 14 days. Thankfully Vodaphone called me (possibly customer service or resolutions dept) they agreed to refund the cost of the charges from AppyClub. My advice to anyone with similar experiences would be to contact the Ombudsman in order to get a resolution. If you call them and they are busy leave your number and they will call you back. Just explain your situation and they will get in touch with your network provider.

The AppyClub are running a scam.I have been charged $36 to my phone Account for 'free'messages sent to my phone to which I never intended to subscribe . I called them they said I pressed a couple of green buttons somewhere through another app. I don't remember pressing anything like that on the phone screen as I am always careful. My little son might have done something while playing with the phone . But that should have been never that easy to subscribe to anything . They never sent me a confirmation message that I had been subcribed .

I'm with Optus same #1300886534 Mobile Active for $36.40 last bill. Charges $4.55 each wek. Called Optus and had it refunded "good will"! It tried to charge again today $4.55 and blocked it. If this is happening to a lot of people Optus should do more to stop it. Report to federal Police would be a start.

If appy club is a scam, are the telecommunications providers charging us money on their behalf accessories to the fact?

They could well be. If I didn't ring Optus and query amount, they would have left charge on bill expecting me to pay.

Same problem of 5 calls all logged at same time of day from MobileActive, each call cost $4.55. Rang Optus to contest, at first they wanted just to put a bar on all future events stating that it was an opt in by my employee (who's phone it is).. with more persuasion they have blocked all future "calls" from this service and credited $25 to account as "goodwill". At least they gave a credit, but it took 25 minutes to see my point of view!

    Mr Chuck,
I don't agree, I have never given permission for appy club or Vodafone to charge my account for something I didn't request. Vodafone charged my account, when I complained I was told they needed my password, which I couldn't remember so they said they couldn't deal with me, but they allowed some company to charge me money with out a password.

I called this number: there are 2 options. 1- All our operators are busy. leave your name and number and we will call you back. [Of course no one calls back]. 2- Enter the phone number to un-subscribe.

Tell me which part helps you or refunds your siphoned money?

    Cheers

I fully agree with Mahq. You need a complaint reference number from service provider to lodge a complaint with Telecommunication Industry Ombudsman. I called my service provider to get a complaint number. In response, they agreed to waive off any charges from 19SMS Premium Services and also barred the numbers from calling/ texting my phone number.

    Great help Mehq.

    Hi Chuck;

I agree with your comments on 'responsible behavior'. However, scammers like MobilAppyClub don't give you an option to choose. This one just pops on your screen and does not give you an option to dis-agree with the offer from the club. Only option is to agree or close the pop-up. Either way, your subscription goes on and you start getting charges.

This is criminal and syphoning of money. There is nothing like responsible behavior in this. However, I appreciate help from Mehq to resolve this subject.

Get your facts right! This scam is not through anyone entering their phone number on 'win a free ipad' or the like.  These are through accidental clicking on ads on apps, just clicking, not entering anything or subscribing.  As many have said - an advertisement on a flashlight app for example!  pretty easy to accidently click an ad bar! it's dark for petes sake!  Yes, I agree, anyone who enters their mobile number on those enter to win sites is darn silly and deserves the first charge as a wake up!  However, this is a whole new way of mobile scamming, you don't do anything! a swipe in the wrong area on certain apps and poof SUBSCRIBED!
