Social Security returning my call about my benefits.

A man called and said he will come out next week to help me. He gave the number 1-800-772-1213. I don't know who he is or why he is coming.

Social Security Administration, but not sure why they are calling me. The message said they were returning my request which I did not make.

This is a telemarketer posing as Social Security. Do not give them any personal info. They are hoping to get your Soc Sec # (or they already have it) and other vital info. This is NOT the SSA, even though the phone number that shows up on your Caller ID is the real SSA 800 line. It is "spoofed." Do not cooperate. Do not even answer. Any info you give can easily be used to steal your identity.

Another scam!!  "Nate" left a message Sat morning stating he was from the Social Security office and needed to speak to me regarding my aunt's account.  He knew enough details to make me wonder if this was a legit call except I know Soc Sec doesn't have Sat AM office hours.  The number that showed on my caller ID and the phone number left in the message was my local Soc Sec office.  When I called the office on Monday and said I was returning a call from Nate I was told that no one named Nate worked there and did I get the call over the weekend.  She said they are getting a lot of calls reporting incidents similar to mine. They asked if I would make a report and that someone would call me for the information, however I am going to the office in person to submit the information, I do not give out any info over the phone anymore.

8007221213 is social securities main number.  I got a call from 9724971400 claiming to be social security and asking me to call 8007221213 (which is social securities main number), They wanted to see if I qualified for extra help on prescription drugs; but this does not seemcorrect to me since I am not eligible for medicare at my current age.  SSA certainly has the phone number that I was called at.

I received by mail an "Application Summary for Hospital Insurance Only" saying they talked to me on February 25 (not), that I would hear from them within 60 days after I give them all the information they requested.  If I disagreed with any of the statements, I should contact them within 10 days at 1-800-772-1213.  This was puzzling because I never made an application for hospital insurance.

I got a call, but did not answer, from 972-497-1400 about prescription drugs.  I reversed the number and found them to be a Dallas company Focal Communications.  They left a vm and said if I had any questions to call social security 800-772-1213. However, I am about to sign up for Medicare in a few months.  I can't believe social security gives out this kind of information on us. I have inundated with requests from insurance companies for Medicare and supplemental insurance.

I found this number while looking for local social security office contact numbers, online.  There were pictures of the street view of the offices and a number to call to make an appt.  The appt. offered was by phone only, for enrollment in Medicare part A and B.  I turn 65 this Fall but have not retired.  I asked how can they enroll me by phone without documentation?  She (a Filippino woman?)  said oh, they'll ask you to bring docs only if they don't have all your info- ya right.  Then I called a local HICAP office for seniors and an ex-investigator said the SSA offices don't enroll anyone by phone!  He said, you didn't give them your SS number did you?  Now I can't remember but ya, probably.  Now I'm getting Lifelock, not that someone can't get your SS no. and find out information about you online. What I did was hand it to them on a silver platter- :(  I do have an appointment  a couple weeks out, long enough that they can do their mischief and call me for more info on the appt. date.  Word to the wise:  Go to your local SSA office for benefit enrollment.

DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR SS NUMBER ONLINE, EVER.  USE ONLY THE LAST FOUR DIGITS!  Also, SSA office numbers are generally 877 prefix, NOT 800 numbers.

Received a call from SSA wanting to verify 1999 earnings for SS, which I had just applied for.  I called the 1800 number on the SS written communications and asked to talk to the help desk.  I told them I had received a call from their 1800 number.  The help desk told me it was a legitimate call.  Still not comfortable with them calling me.  I intend to monitor all my accounts for a while.

Received call this afternoon, following a message we left for assistance at the Toll free telephone number at Social Security admin. It was a legitimate call from SSA. The time-span from the time we originated the call & left the message was approx. 30 minutes. At first, when our CID showed "Unavailable" we were going to block the call, but the automated response stated it was calling b/c of our message. Also, if you go to the official SSN ADMIn. site, it does show 800-772-1213 as their toll-free number. Secondly, this number also appears on official SSA correspondence we have received in the past 12 few years regarding SSA benefits. However, if you did not call for assistance or information from Social Security I would not provide any personal information from the caller. We did confirm our mailing address in order to receive the required forms for Part B coverage. SSN does not enroll you over the phone; you must bring completed forms and id to your local SSA office.

Got an email saying "Dear [not my name but very similar], thank you for making an account with our social security website" etc etc "if you haven't made this request then call 8007721213 during business hours" etc etc.... I never spoke to someone and the recorder tried to ask me for my social security number.... I did not of course and it was a hour and something wait for the next representative. They put my phone number down for a call back (in a hour and something minutes) but when they called me back, they still put me on hold and mentioned that i should "have my social security number and any mail they've sent to me handy for that they can better cater to me".... after waiting 2 minutes and noone came to the line... I hung up. Seems like a scam!

I returned the call and gave them my social. The caller ID identified this number as SSA.

Its a scam to rip you off. they want your personal info. they say you've inherited a house and need to pay the taxes on it.
