Plenty of people are stil getting calls from this number and it's very annoying.

This number is used as a caller ID by the Skype Internet Phone Service. If someone calls your phone number from Skype this will be displayed on your phone. The calls can originate from anywhere in the world...

I have been using Skype for years and previously the caller ID within the United States would be (000) 012-3456 or 'Out of Area'.

Today was the first time I had seen (214) 586-0999 so I called it back and was put on hold with some techno music. I stayed on the line and was eventually dumped into a massive conference call. Like one of those old party lines except with people all over North America.

My rule of of thumb when I get calls from numbers I do not know is to let it go to voice mail. If it's someone you know or a legitimate call, they will leave a message!!

My daughter called me from her computer, this is the number that popped up.
Although most of the time the number that shows up on caller ID is 0000123456.
I never answer or call back numbers that I don't recognize. If it is important they will leave a message. I know, I know some people refuse to leave messages.
I always reply, "Well I refuse to call back unknown numbers".

I received a call today at 3:56pm California time -- displaying 2145860999.

I did not answer and I did a web-search to identify the number.

I retreived a voicemail and determined that it was a colleague who called me, on my cell phone, using Skype...

After I heard the voicemail, I called/skyped him back on the computer and verified that it was him.

In this case, this caller ID number was assigned to his letigimate phone call, from skype/computer to regular carrier lines...

I got a call from this number earlier today, and it hung up when i answered. Then immediately after I got a call from "unavailable", which also hung up and did not work, but I suspect it's som sort of international clling fluke, because apparently my boyfriend was trying to call me from Japan.  Although, he said he only attempted once.  So I do not know if I am being scammed and that was coincidence, or if it's a fluke in international calling systems.  Also, he was calling me using Skype.  I do not know if there is some sort of connection.

Its a number that is generated but skype for users that dont have a number.. I know when I talk to a friend of mine using my skype service my number has appeared as this.. It has also appeared as 000-012-3456 before too..

I use Skype. Not for business. Just to call friends and family. Recently my friends have told me that this number comes up 214 586 0999 when I call. It's just a Skype Gateway number. ANYONE who uses Skype will potentially have this number show up. Skype is so cheap ($7 a month unlimited incoming, outgoing, with your own number people can call you back on) it's becoming the way for telemarketers.

Guys; I have the answer...My sister is a subscriber to "Skype" internet telephone service.  She buys into the service and can make calls over the Internet, using a headset instead of a telephone handset.  She pays maybe $30 or $35 dollars per year for calls unlimited, anywhere in the world, unlimited time!  Just one flat fee for all.

When she calls, my caller ID reads: "International 214-586-0999"  then I know it's my sis, using her Skype calling service, to chat with me.

Reading back over the comments, above, it's obvious that these scammers who call from India, Malaysia, Philipines, etc. to try to con you & I out of our money--have subscribed to Skype for that cheap yearly rate, in order to use the cheapest possible calling rate in trying to pull off their scams.

Write that number down on a little sticky note--post it near your phone--and when you see "International 214-586-0999" pop up on your caller ID, just don't answer.  Don't let them know your number is a working number by answering, because once you pick up that handset--even if you slam it back down as soon as their recorded message starts--then they know there's a human being at your number, and that allows them to sell your telephone number to the next scammer, and make a profit from you.  When you see that International number pop up, just sit tight as though there's nobody home--don't pick up the receiver--and then they think they've hit a dead-end number and they can't profit by selling your number to the next telemarketer.

This number calls several times a week but there is no one at the other end.  To have to interrupt what I am doing - for this - constitutes an invasion of my time, and plain harrassment.  It angers me that we (the public) cannot prevent this kind of (marketing, I presume) abuse.

It's a number in TN. I just looked up the area code.  I'm in Colorado.

they are still at it, been getting calls from them, but i am not answering, especially after reading all these posts.

so i receive a call from this number at 7 in the morning of course i didt answer, there was a voice message it was one of my friends calling to say waz up but the thing is that he's suppose to in Palestine, very very weird i just called back and the same thing techno music...very very awkward! :S

got a call on my caller id, called back, was put on hold and told to wait till they connect me. Hang up.

I got a call from this number, and someone left me a message which i couldn't understand.  the only things i could distinguish were "hey dave" and "in a bind".  i have no clue who it was or why they called, but it was really weird.  i read on another site like this one saying it may have been a skype number?  it would make sense since a few people i know regularly use it...

called our house, knew my wife's name, said "we just recieved a 911 call from your house" i said "who is this?" he said nothing, i dont think he could hear me talking or at least didnt act like he could & then as i hung up he said "i always get another conversation" (as if it was a party line) when we called the local police they told us to call our phone service. im not even thinking of calling this number back. what really bothered me was that they knew my wife's name and said we called 911 in an emergancy. i wouldnt call back if i were you maybe eventually they'll give up.

Anybody know what's really going on with these calls? Any web site ideas?

I got a call from that number today, the guy was trying to [***] me over the phone, he knew my name and he spoke in Hebrew, Im Israeli and that guy was Israeli too. I hung up on him after i asked 10 time what his name and he didnt give me a straight answer. no matter what dont answer that number it cant be good.

this number freaking has called me 5 times over the past hour... no voicemails... pretty annoying

June 12 2008- I received a call from this number at work. A guy with an Arabic accent said he called people to practice his English. He wanted to go to NY University and come to New York. The caller ID said International but when I did a reverse search of the number on 411.com, it said it was a Land Line in Dallas Texas from Ibfa Acquisitions LLC. He kept going on and on after I told him he has called business. He even called back after I hung up. The scary part is he said sometimes he does crazy things. I reported it to our security people at work. In New York city you can't be too careful.
