- AnnieToday I received a call from 288 918 6555 from a person with a heavy Indian accent. He said he was calling from Microsoft and my computer was loaded up with "junk" and he needed me to turn my computer on so that he could clean it up. I asked him where he was physically located, and he replied that he was calling me from Virginia. I again asked him where he was physically calling me from, and this time he replied Charleston. I asked which Charleston? He replied, Charleston, West Virginia. I said you do not sound like you are from Charleston, and furthermore, I want you to remove my phone number from your calling list and never call this number again. He replied, Ma'am I am going to show up at your house tomorrow with the police. I said please do, and I will greet you with a warrant for your arrest, whereupon he hung up the phone! What a scam!!!!!!!!!!
- Caller: Microsoft (or so he said)
- mandie| 1 replyI received 20 calls from the number 288-918-6555, the guy was making sexual comment once I asked to be removed for there call list I asked to talk to a manager and he hung up and continued to call and harass me several more times
- Caller: microsoft
- ScrewSirius| 1 replyI used to have a subscription with Sirius radio until I moved to a place where I don't get good reception. Dropped them for this reason as well as the fact that I'm sick and fking tired of talking to the terrorist employees at their call centers in EGYPT, INDIA and the Philipines.
I always get calls right about the same time I get another reminder to subscribe to them again.
Why does the U.S. allow these companies to use companies from hot spots in the world?- Caller: Probably Sirius Satellite radio
- Steve replies to Annadon't be fooled into believing you have ever "cleaned it out totally." You should remain diligent in your protection. There are even viruses that go undetected for a year or more then show up on a particular day.
However, this is obviously a bogus phone call. No one legitimately will ever call you and ask you for information from your computer unless you've personally arranged some type of support ticket. - hojo replies to mandietheir list, not there list.
- T replies to CenzoI just got the same call - and the same scenario!!!! SCAMMERS
- T replies to scott71I just got the same and when I asked questions and why they were calling they hung up - indian accent as well lady!
- A NonDO NOT ANSWER CALLS FROM, OR GIVE ANY INFO TO, THIS NUMBER - they are scammers who know that most of the people they call know very little about computers and they're betting that because of this, you'll be easy prey.
Microsoft can't see your computer or its errors and doesn't do reverse tech support. (Use your common sense and think it over - do you believe MS monitors - or could monitor - every computer [millions of then] and that MS would pay tech support people to call everyone having problems with their software? That would be a violation of your privacy, be utterly impractical and would bankrupt MS.)
If you have contacted MS (or any other software/computer company) with an issue, obtain and keep track of the ticket number/issue number/tracking number. Make sure any contact seemingly coming from MS (or any other software/computer company) includes THEM providing/referencing that ticket/issue/tracking number. Do not have any further communication with them until THEY can provide the number - it's your only way of protecting yourself and your only way of knowing they're legitimate. - FloridaJust got my first call. Decided to google the number -thank goodness! Saw that it was a scam. Scarry!
- From VTGot a call this morning from a woman saying she was from Microsoft and that I had numerous viruses on my computer and when I didn't believe her, she put her "supervisor" on, a male. He again said my computer needed to be fixed, wanted to know what screen was showing, and actually had my microsoft license # he read to me. When I said I didn't trust him, he said he couldn't continue if I didn't fully trust him. He then wanted me to go to www.ammyy.com and when I asked what ammyy stood for, he hung up. I contacted Microsoft chat and they said this is a scam/hoax.
- Caller: Claimed to be Microsoft
- BostonHere's a tricky one. This is not a valid phone number so my block caller option cannot enter it.
Sneaky buggers. - helloI just got a call from this number with a man with heavy Indiana accent. He said he was coming from Microsoft Window and my computer has lots of virus and asked me to log on my computer. I laughed at him, when asked why, I told him there are lot of frauds going on the internal that you sound like just one of them. I asked repeatedly if he called from India, he refused to answer before he hang up.
Good luck and never fall victim of such scams. - C DonnellyUnknown Name 218-918-6555 called me at 5:40am - now there's a hint it's a nuisance call.

- WritingformyMumSounds like the same man, calling from a call center--lots of noise in the background. Says that he is very busy and that someone has gained access to our computer. My mum said "OK, what is your number [and I will verify you are Microsoft] and I will call you back"-- long pause and he hung up. Clearly a scam.
