I emailed a Katie there and sent this message to her...... Maybe all of you that get calls from them need to reverse the strategy,  and start to mass call and harass them instead!!!!!

I mailed this message to this email address (katiestein@msgerald.com) Message below:

Whoever is calling for Teresa Moyer from your office for some bill needs to stop calling her, she is a paraplegic and on SSI so there is NOTHING you can do legally to sue for money, so you are wasting your time. If this is in regards to a cell bill or any other bill it WILL NOT be paid as she has no money, and you do what you have to do, but you can not sue someone on ssi for monetary losses. I have spoke with an attorney about this, and there is nothing you are going to say to try to SCARE us/her into paying....Lose the phone number [removed].

LIKE I HAVE TRIED TO TELL YOU OVER THE PHONE REGARDLESS IF YOU TALK TO HER OR I YOU WILL NOT BE GETTING ANYTHING SO GO A HEAD AND REPORT TO THE CREDIT BUREAUS AND WHATEVER YOU ARE GOING TO DO BECAUSE SHE HAS NO MONEY FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And NO we are not married so ya can't come after me either.......................

    Thank you kindly,
       Roger Henderson & Teresa Moyer

They are calling me, never leaving a message, and when I answer, they ask for someone who is related to me that I have no contact with--because they are drug dealers and jailbirds.  They insist that the person they are looking for is me because I am a woman and they are looking for a woman.  This family member uses several of their relatives addresses and phone numbers without permission to keep away from responsibilites and the police.  It's embarrassing to say the least!  I told them to check police reports about complaints about this situation to prove they don't live here.  This has been an ongoing problem for years with these family members!  Not sure what to do, so I am calling the state attorney general after posting this.  I have worked hard and gone to nursing school to better myself and I'll be damned if a lazy government using ass is going to get away with this.  I have tried to serve papers on them to cease and desist, and it's impossible because no one knows where they are!!!

This is a scam. They claim that you either owe for a credit card, medical bill or other type of collection. I've been doing some research about them. They're hoping they can pin someone who will think "Oh sh**, I do have a past-due bill" and pay up. But if you do have past-due bills, they won't get paid by giving these people money!

If you say you don't have such a thing, they try to convince you that you do. They claim their "client's" information is confidential (but any legit bill collector will tell you where the original debt came from - they have to). They try to get you to submit personal info by being tricky. For example, asking for your date of birth, SSN, etc to "prove" who you are - as if you have anything to prove in the first place. If a caller isn't 100% sure who you are, as a rule, you always should call bullsh** on them. It's their duty to prove it, not yours.

So, if you get a call from these people, just tell them where they can shove their phony bills!

This is a complete Scam. They were calling me about a debt that was 12 years old, and settled with another debt company about  7 years ago. The Statute of Limitations (SOL) here in NY is 7 years. If there has been no activity (ie. payment) in 7 years, they cannot sue you or even put it on your credit report. They just "hope" you'll pay something, which would re-activate your account, and then they COULD sue you or garnish you wages.

They are part of a growing shady set of collectors, that buy debts which are past the SOL for pennies, and then try to harrass you or bully you into paying them something, even though they have no legal claim to it. If they can just get you to pay a dollar, then they can restart the SOL clock, THEN have a legal claim to it. Basically, its a complete sham, and they prey on ignorant or naieve people that don't know any better.

If they call you, tell them the debt was already settled AND it's past the SOL. If they say they can still try to collect it...challenge them to sue you; they cant!!!! (or even affect your credit report or score) UNLESS you pay them.

Compaines like this set up a call center and harass people hoping 1 out of 1,000 will pay them something. At some point, they will get so many complaints that FTC or AG will force them to cease operations. Then they'll just open another shady operation under a different name and do it all over again. Of course, if you did pay them something, and another company tried to collect again years later, they would no longer exist for you to verify your settlement.

    IMPORTANT!
A debt settlement is an agreed upon amount to put the debt to rest. For example, if you owe $2,000 a collections agency might offer to 'settle' the debt for $1,000 or $500 or even $50. This may be a good avenue; you can't afford to pay off the full debt, but the company might take a one-time lump sum and "write off" the rest. Once a settlement is agreed upon, the debt is no longer collectable; it is "Settled" and completely done. It will still show on your credit report as a "write-off" but it's better than having it unpaid, and you can't be sued or garnished for it. No one can collect this debt in the future; it has been settled and is no longer owed.

HOWEVER, the IRS now considers the unpaid balance as income. Thats right...if you settle your $2,000 debt for $1,000 they will consider the remaining balance as "income" and you will recieve a 1099 for $1,000 and you'll have to report it as income. Likewise, if you settled the $2,000 for $500, you'd have to pay income taxes on the remaining $1,500. If you settled it for $50, the IRS would make you claim the $1,950 as income on the following years taxes. This can really be a huge deal if you're settling a $20,000 debt for $2,000. It will be like you made $18,000 extra that year, but no taxes were taken to account for it! Add that amount to your regular income, and you might find yourself in deep debt to the IRS, who can do more than garnish your wages or ding your credit report!

I think that sucks, but it's good info to know for anyone considering a settlement. It might even be a good negotiating tip when trying to reach a settlement amount (ie "I have to declare the balance as income on my taxes next year, so you'll have to give me a better deal than that"). In essence, you'll be paying more than just the settlement amount to make the debt go away.

I used to work for the company a few years ago It's not there faults if they call the wrong phone # or if they call more than once. They have automated dialers that call what ever # is in the system so the collectors have no choice but to call back sometimes until the # is removed. I hate when people give collectors [***] about there job. Its already hard calling some of you people with out being cursed for doing our job. If you don't want a collector to call you then don't miss a payment simple as that. If a collector might seem a little rude its because either your rude or the people the just talked to was rude. Cut these people some slack, they're just trying to put food in there families mouths like everyone else.
