No scam, they are verifying a purchase you made using PayPal.  It's a service they offer.  Get a life!

You're a lier, and attempting to defraud your credit card company.  There's no way they can get your card and process a PayPal charge without it showing up on a credit card statement or you having a PayPal Account.  Your attempting to pull a scam yourself.

402-935-7733 is legit paypal number from the fraud department that left a message about recent activity, which I did do, called the 1-888-221-1161 number from the web page to verify it was legit.
Hadn't used the account in a while so that is why they called

I received a charge with this phone no., saying it was from PayPal.

I disputed the charge.  Don't bother wasting your time with PayPal.  They do nothing!!!

I had three  unauthorized PayPal transactions on Dec. 4, 2010, and Paypal took note and limited my account.  My checking account still got dinged for about $300!  They will make it right, happily.  Part of the process to restore my account was to verify my location.  I clicked "phone now" to the home number listed on my account and this 402-935-7733 appeared immediately.

Call from this 205-936-5873 @ 8pm.

Caller couldn't confirm he was with PayPal, so I told him to pound sand.

My wife made a payment to a merchant who gave her a link to (PAYPAL ?????) to pay for the item/service etc.  There was a PPXXXX number as a PayPal ID number to use.  The merchant asked my wife to make the payment this way as the merchant would not have to payment a Credit card fee for the payment.  Anyway the payment was made using a Credit Card #, etc.  

I monitor the activity on all CREDIT CARDS and noticed this charge and did not recognize it. It showed the merchant name etc and it was followed by the 4029357733 number.  I told my wife about the charge and she told me what it was about. I thought okay but did not like the way the payment was made. I use a PAYPAL account but my wife did not know the user id and password or security key
as she never used it and it was on a completely different CREDIT CARD, etc.  

I had my wife verify that the merchant received the payment :and they had.  I wa sstill not pleased with
what the merchant had my wife do and had read several comments about this phone number on this
website.  It left me concerned because of the back and forth about this number being a PAYPAL number.  My own call to PAYPAL indicates the number is not a secure number for them !!!!  Not sure what this means and it was like talking to another world trying to understand what the person was saying, etc.

Well here is the latest. My wife tried using the Credit Card and found she couldn't use it "rejected".
She went next door to the bank and found they were questioning a purchase made in Peru. A train ticket.  The bank credited the account for the charge but while the first charge was being rejected the person tried it again with a different amount.  The bank and Credit Card company are checking (investigating) and it may be that the person(s) doing this are not even in Peru.  There is a lot of ideas
about the person being connected with PAYPAL and knows how to manipulate their system,etc.

My impression is that the bank and the Credit Card company are just writing this off. Not me however
as I have this reported the the police, etc.  Someone has the ability to get Credit Card info, allow the real payment to good through and then use the Credit Card info to make the later fraud charges on the card #.  

This is probably not the only way it's done but it seems as a sure bet for one way; there must be someone in PAYPAL that knows how to do this,etc.

I have been charged $24.75 for ??? thru my Discover card that went thru paypal. My statement showed Hydranea Ca with this phone number on it. I keep a balance in paypal so why would it go to my Discover card and who are these people?

i just got a charge of $1 on my prepaid credit card and it said     Purchase - PAYPAL    but its not showing up on my paypal account
