I get a call from these people every day. I don't answer. I contacted them and told them not to call yet they persist.

They left a message and number, and as I normally do before returning calls I check the number out online to be sure I'm not calling back a scammer.  I do have some medical debt floating around for the parts insurance didn't pay (yeah, I'm lazy about that), and I called them back.  The rep I spoke with was courteous and took care of business, we were done with the call in about 4 minutes and had a payment plan set up.  I swear that I don't work there, or have any friends or relative who do!  I am just honest about my debt, and had a good experience with the message and call.

Polite to a collector? Screw those guys. If they took that job with any delusion that anyone would be polite to them for any reason on any day they are mental. I would abuse them till they cry and decide to take up another profession.

if you didn't have a bill that you didn't pay you wouldn't be so angry that you are recieving calls cus you wouldn't get them!  duh!!!  bill collectors make good money...most ofwhich have educations outside highschool like those who live off dshs!!!!

Just got a call from them asking for me, I said I wasn't in and asked who was calling; they hung up.

Merchants Credit Association - collection agency for medical bills primarily.  Their system is slow and even though it shows I'm paid in full, I still get calls every day because of their robo-dialer (War-Dialer).  Sometimes they're understanding and apologize but every once in a while, I'll get some jerk who won't look at his screen and he'll threaten me with "possible action".  Once they've wound themselves up into a frenzy, I tell them, OK, let's pay it.  ALL.  RIGHT. NOW!!!

Only then do they look at the computer screen and see the 0 balance.

8AM sharp..fax machine and home phone at same time..must be automated system..caller ID says Bellevue WA.

I get these dummys calling for someone thats not me on my cell, I let it go to my VM and just ignore them anymore. I use to answer them but now i got the number listed as dummys as the caller ID, they also call with another number 707-454-2010 and they are prompt about callin in the morning noon and about 600pm about 2 times in the beginning of the month and end of the month

And yet again, they called and left no message...  Merchant's Credit collections..10:29am PST

we're getting a call about an overdue bill for 43 cents.... 43 CENTS!!!!! really?!?!?!?!?

They have called me 5 times in the last three weeks for a man whom I do not know. Finally Getting irretated and being pregnant I yelled at the lady said you have the wrong number STOP F*ing calling me she replyed wow your having a bad do you feel better now are you sure your not Tina cook! and hung up on me!

Actually, if you have an even relatively common name, and have had the same phone number for any period of time, you will likely get calls for debt that is NOT yours.

I  have had this problem, as has my fiance.

Oh, and I have a college degree, fiance makes 6 figures. Not about the money, just not going to be harrassed for debt that isn't ours.

stop the calls by paying your bills.

Even if these goofballs call about a valid debt, it is your patriotic duty as a consumer to be rude and hostile to them. I don't think Oprah would take their crap - why should you?

Well I hope the day comes when you get a taste of this recession firsthand, and stop finger pointing, and look in the darn mirror.  But then maybe its not your fault that you don't have a soul.  But maybe you can buy one.  LOL

I am a debtor. I recently submitted a request to pay a settlement on a 10 year old account. The heavy accent woman that called me would not state who she was or where she was calling from. She stated that I am very lucky that the client accepted my offer and that she needed my payment of $500 in five minutes or less or the agreement will be voided. I explained to her that in my settlement request that I would prefer an acceptance in writing and would then call in with my payment. As she spoke through my argument, she stated that we are not on my terms and that we are on her client's terms and once again I need to provide a visa or mastercard payment immediately. I told her that I would think about it and to get in touch with me in another 10 years. What a joke!

I live in CANADA  and get calls from this "company". Clearly this is some kind of scam. I guarantee anyone who checks will find they still owe the original debt and any money they paid just went into some criminals pocket.

I get multiple calls from this number and never a message. I'm tired of this. They don't pay my phone bill and I get charged for every call.

They called my job today...for real?

Basically a note was saying I needed to $91 by 11am Thursday or else.  The wife and I are going through a Ch13 right now.  I called them up to see what the dealio was.  They received notice earlier in the week about it and I verified that information.

They noted that in their account and that was the end of that.

Very professional on the phone otherwise and pleasant to talk to.  You have to realize what these people have to go through on a daily basis trying to collect debts.
