Trying to sell a car on gumtree and got a message of a 'john' asking me what the condition was and if i could reply to his email address. Then he replied with the following:

Hello thanks for reply, i am a marine engineer, i am at sea right now.
I am buying this for my son as a surprise gift. I can  only pay
through paypal at the moment as i don't have access to my bank
account online(i dont have internet banking with it), but i have it
attached to my paypal account, and this is why i insisted on using
paypal to pay,all i will need is your paypal email address to make the
payment, and if you dont have a paypal account yet, you can set one
it cant take you less than 3mins to do that, i will be expecting your
paypal email so l can pay.  I have a pick up agent that will come for
the pick up after payment has been sorted,  l will be waiting for your
reply asap..

I googled the number before he replied and found this website!! i wouldnt have given him what he wanted anyway as as you can see it doesnt sound right one bit!. Hope this guy gets caught berore someone gets scammed by him!!.

Had the same message after posting car on gumtree...johnsdge23@gmail.com.....knew staight away it was scam...........don't ever give out ur details if looks too good usually is.

Have a car on carguide and car sales .com.  Got 2 texts from the same number...0428564117 with different names wanting my best price.
Interesting...the carsguide add wasn't to be published until today and the text came at 6.37am??

Gave them basic info on price, but no more.

Looks like a scam for sure.

Got a message from a 'Sharon Hair' 61428465117 re my gumtree adverts. asked if I could email sharonhair@hotmail.com

Later on got this email:

include your address in your reply.If you don't have a paypal
account,you can easily set up one...log on to www.paypal.com.au and sign
up. its very easy.I await your reply asap

I asked what they wanted to buy as it wasn't stated in text message. (Knowing full well it was a scam)
Then got this reply:

okay, i mean i want to purchase all your item listed on gumtree,so
how much is the total cost in all, so that i can be able to arrange
payment right away if i may need most of them?

I then replied: 'Scam'

.....Glad I could have contributed.
Realised after the text messages I should not have emailed back as Gumtree has a secure way of emailing back and fourth annonmysly. Glad I could add another piece to the puzzle!

selling 2 cars on ebay and gumtree and received 2 messages from this number asking to pay by paypal and asking suspect questions about one of the cars. be careful of alexmore001@hotmail.com and jimrich50@outlook.com.au    idiot sent me 2 messages with these 2 email addresses from the same phone number asking for email contact, also received a message from +16468015714 with almost the same wording
again with email contact only to savigarcia101@gmail.com

Just contacted me on +61428465117, calling himself mark, asking me to email to amosrice@gmail.com

I replied "would you like to come and have a look?"

Nothing so far.

payment to be paid on the pick up point for their security purpose.
All he's coming there for is to do the checking, and delivery. The
only easier way for me to pay in the money is through PayPal and you
will get the funds in your account before my agent come there for the
Pick Up. I can make a direct payment from my PayPal to your Bank
account and funds will be cleared in time.. All i will need is your
Account Full name, Account Number and the sort code..
4th mess I have read about it on the listing already before making inquiry and
am satisfied with the condition so that's not a problem..
5th mess I was just about to pay when i had this problem with the pick up, my pick up
agent says i will need to pay for the pick up before they can schedule a
pick up time, they charged me £400 for pick up and delivery, and
payments or pick up made through them is made to their corporate
international headquarters which is in the State and the
payments is made through western union money transfer, i will add the
£450 to the money i will send through paypal as soon as i have made
the payments, i will email you and let you know and please i will need
you to help me send the money to my pick up
agent Hq in the States through western union money transfer, this can be done
from any post office ,there is always western union money transfer section
in most post offices...,i would have done it myself but we cant bring
some of our personal effects
along, i am a little incapacitated.....I will appreciate your help here

Hi I have put my caravan up for sale on Gumtree and got a text message from this number +61428465117 but the text speak didn't sound quite right so I thought I would google this person - the e mail address they wanted extra photos too is - tarabartone100@gmail.com and again this didn't look quite right either

I have not heard back from yet

not just GUMTREE I have now got emails 3 texts from that number triggered by ad on CARSGUIDE

Received 2 messages within minutes from different names, but all from the same number. The same story as all others listed, working off shore in NZ, son graduated from Charles Darwin University.

Surely the Telco company that has this number can delist it????

And why hasn't it happened.

Yeah same thing happened to me yesterday.
Got a text that didnt make sense and the number was not recognizable;

"I am interested in your advert for sale on Gumtree, what is the firm price"

Since I have multiple items on gumtree I was left confused then emailed asking this "tom shedy" what item they were referring to. He then said he wanted to buy everything and wanted to know the price I could give.
I then knew this sounded too good to be true considering the items I have on gumtree for sale altogether
would stack up to £1235 and they arent the sort of items you would expect someone to buy all together.
Since it would be very difficult to transport all of them due to their size & weight.

If its too good to be true it usually is.

Same mobile number text from Mary Cole and Denis Macus. Messages came within an hour of Gumtree ad going live.

Same no. but this guy was Denis Macus...and then Simon  Gibbons a couple of days later. Exact same writing style.. I feel for the "not-so-wary" folk out there. I'd never come across this on Gumtree before, and I have to admit, I was a bit sucked in at first, until they wanted money.

BEWARE.....big time scammer!!
