Haha !!! What a jerk !!! This is what my friend was told when he posted the ad on gumtree.

As regards the payment, I can pay you through direct bank deposit,using ppal instant bank wire transfer service as i have my N.A.B account attached to my ppal account, I will need your bank details.If you are not comfortable with that, you can set up a paypal account proper at www.paypal.com.au and I will make the payment through paypal, this way, all I will need is your paypal email address.

So far i have sold my car twice on gumtree in a matter of hours (without inspections) so sus...
i thought i would look it up and low and behold i was right.

First one from a Raphael Wayne Email: wayne_raphael@yahoo.com.au his txt came though as "carenquiry" and when you try to ring this number appears 2273678479.

Second was from a Paul Datford with email pauldatford@gmail.com and phone No. 61428465117 and the same crap as before word for word...

Bunch of [***]!!! gumtree should really do something about this as it seems to be getting out of hand! and i am sure that everyone has better things to do than get the run around buy theses fools!

I got the same exact story, but now they are using the email address of davpatrick30@gmail.com and claiming their name is David Patrick.

There are some slight changes to his story, now he says he's a sailor and his sons major has now changed to Building Design & Architecture.

So beware of this name and email address.

If somethings sounds too good to be true, it is!

Got one from Becky Lawrence (aka billowen@hotmail.com.au), regarding an ad we had on Gumtree. Wanted email only reply.  Forwarded the message onto the ACMA SMS Spam Alert hotline (0429999888).  Sic 'em Rex! :)

Got a second one from the same number, this time from a Michael seay (no capitalisation on surname, instant givewaway, dufus!).  Responding to a car ad on Gumtree.  Pity we're not advertising a car...

Paul Datford just gave us the exact same messages last weekend for a car on gumtree

My boyfriend must have recieved a message the first time he listed his car on gumtree, and i didnt know about it, but just relisted the car again and just got a message from this same number as original message but funny thing is as both messages are in phone still that they are two different names and email addresses Gibbinssimon569@gmail.com and michael.sayers@gmail.com

i had them try an scam me on gumtree re: my camper trailer.I read most of the reports and most of the time he was male, this time it was female named juliana julie or aka lisa email address kyliehuitchinson@outlook.com and the other is julianajul90@gmail.com. the wired thing is i just read one of the reports on this page and it was nearly word for word including the courier driver wanting and upfront paypent, i mean considering i paying for something that i already own.how stupid do they think we are?????

Got a text message from +61 428 465 117 asking for more info about a car on carsales.com.au.
quote as follows: "Is your vehicle still for sale, what is the lowest price & the history condition of it? email me more photos on (Julianajul90@gmail.com)asap"

This is a scam.  This is the second time I have received a similar text regarding a vehicle on carsales.com.au.  BEWARE

Received 4 messages within 4 hours from different names, but all from the same number. The same story as all others listed, working off shore in NZ, son graduated from Charles Darwin University.

Is there a legal body that can be contacted to stop this?

I got a call yesterday from a Michael Seay, wanting to buy my car. I felt suss this morning after corresponding via email. He wanted 950.00 through Western Union to be paid before paying. I have just emailed him back saying I know this is a scam and wont be sending any monies.. Really peed off gum tree customer.

Got a text message below on gumtree on my phone from this guy claims to be Craig but he uses other names.. (have found out mobile number is  aust and from Telstra provider number)

yes i received a message from this number today asking for my paypal details and bank details... its scam.
