- Katherine G. replies to not a dummyI got the same call from the same number. I was reluctant to give them any info so I went to the www.irs.gov website and called their 800 number. It is all legit. The call I received is actually the IRS!
- Concerned for SeniorsI have received several calls from this number on my cell phone over the past weeks. The last call, there was an automated message left stating that it was the IRS and to call 1-800-829-7650 and use code 2887960089 by the end of the day. I did not. Is there any way to catch these crooks?
- Caller: IRS
- NMI received this call this morning and they immediately asked for my SSN. I told them that I didn't feel comfortable, and asked if I could just give them the case number that was given during the recorded message. He insisted that they would need my SSN to verify my identity. I refused, and he said that I could take it up with my local IRS office and hung up. I googled the "716" number and it lead me to this site. I googled the "877" number, and it stated that no such number exists. It is my understanding that the IRS will contact you by letter if there is an issue with your status, and not leave a message saying that you must contact them by the end of the day. Please proceed with caution... give NO ONE your SSN!
- Caller: "IRS"
