FYI if you speak to an IRS employee they are required to give you their ID number at the start of the call.
If they do not, they are a scam. These people have hundreds of different numbers they call from. Also, I have received calls from the IRS regarding legitimate issues, and the called ID always comes up as unknown.

I received a call and voicemail stating it was the IRS; number ‭+1 (716) 206-3218‬. The message provided a “case number” to reference when returning the call. Sounded like a scam...and it is. Thanks to others who have contributed here!
