"Because you are a valuable Canadian Tire customer, you will receive a free gift"   The number they are calling from 780-851-8989 is out of service.   How is this possible???  And how to stop them?

I just received a phone call from 780-851-8989  to my cell phone with an automated message "As a loyal Canadian Tire customer ...".

I got called too, once was on behalf of Canadian Tire and other time in behalf of Rogers. It is all a scam, I called both Rogers and Canadian tire and they assured me of that. All they want is your Age, credit card number address etc. so they can steal some money off you. If you call back the number you'll find out that it is not assigned. They are probably from a different country with using a calling card.
Stay away. When I picked up All I ask was What company does he work for? and his answer was "Do you have a credit card number?" I asked 3 times he repeated his question back 3 times.

This has nothing to do with Canadian Tire or Rogers or whoever. I got this call today saying I was a value CT customer... ". I rarely shop there and have NEVER given them my cell number. Its just a coincidence that you happened to have been there recently :)

So don't punish these places (CT or Rogers or whatever) by refusing to shop / deal with them. They just happen to be the vendor name drawn out of the hat that day.

The calls sure are frustrating though. I get at least one a week.

got this call about 20mins ago, rejected the call and it left me a one sec v/m and it was a weird noise

Robo dialer telling me I won some prize for being such a good Rogers customer... I've reported them since I'm on the DNCL.

Just received a call tonight as well in Edmonton. Said I had one a free trip and to press one. Was through Canadian Tire. I pressed one, and a man with an accent picked up, sounded like an india call center afterwhich he verified I was over 25 and had a credit card (didnt give). Then he transfered me to a woman who was definitley in North America, again another call centre. She assured me this was a free trip to the Ocean Spa hotel and wouldnt cost me a thing, then she laughed when I said I was skeptical and she said if im interested let her run through her deal. My cell lost connection after that.

Telemarketer calling me and I  am on the "no call" list ?

I received a call tonight, the electronic voice said "We would like to reward you for being a long time Roger's customer, if you would like to receive your free gift, press one" or something along those lines.   I pressed one, and the call was transferred to a young woman who asked me if I was interested in buying a cruise.  When I asked her why she was asking me about a cruise, when she was supposed to be calling from Rogers, the call was disconnected.  The call was made from this number:

This number called me today at 3:45PM. I didn't answer because I live in another province and I don't know anyone from Alberta. My friend got a call from this number exactly 30 minutes after they called me. I guess they've been calling lots of people in my city. Good thing I didn't answer it.

Got the call to my cell last night.  "My Name, since you are a valued Canadian tire customer, you are eligible for 3000 travel dollars. Blah blah blah..."
First of all, I don't have a credit card with CT, I only pay cash or debit there, so how would they have any of my contact info?  Second, if I do have to give a ph. number to a company, it will be the home one where I have voice mail (not on my cell).  Third, my cell # isn't listed anywhere so how the hell do they get it!
Unless our cell providers are delling phone number listings......

Yeah, I seem to have received a new one. They claimed to be calling from the Canadian Tourism Board and I had won a free cruise, and to press 1. I pressed one, to complain about being called while at work, and I got obnoxious hold music that lasted ten minutes. Then it went silent, so I hung up. I plan to contact my cell phone provider and report this number as a fraudulant scammer. Maybe they will block the number if I tell them about all the things people have reported here. I suggest everyone else do the same. Now that they have imitated a government agency maybe someone will do something about it. Good luck everyone. I hope they don't call me again.

Now they are the "Canadian Tourism Office". Really someone needs to shut these people down. I had one of them call my home at 1:30am a couple days ago.

You're right. I know it isn't the companies' faults for what's happening, but it's still a company illegally representing them. They should do something about this, or else they are just allowing people to use them to steal money and time from innocent people. I'm not blaming Bell or Rogers or Canadian Tire, but they definitely need to step up and take action.

I GOT A CALL FROM THE TEL. NUMBER ABOVE AND ON MY RESEARCH STATES SUCH NUMBER IS OUT OF SERVICES.

Everyone report this to Canadian Tire. The RCMP can't really do anything about it until someone is victim of a crime, but Canadian Tire can privately litigate the person doing this. If Canadian Tire gets 100 reports of this, they'll do something about it.
