I got the call today. They gave me 5 options for each question, asking what county I lived in, employer, and then about a mortgage payment. I freaked out and hung up. I called the # on my Chase Credit Card and was told that it was not a legitimate Chase call (SCAM!). I also called and spoke to a Branch Representative and they said that if there was a fraudulent charge being investigated, the call would not be an automated call but an actual person.

Update- another Chase rep said that it is an actually Chase # in the Chase directory. It is a vendor that is hired by Chase to check for fraud (I believe the vendor's name was Adeptera, or something like that). He also said that sometime if a system is compromised, they will do mass callings.

This is a SCAM! Call at your own risk ... you will be asked your name, account number and SSN for identification ... when did you last need your SSN to be identified by a bank over the phone. Call your bank with the number provided by your bank - NOT THIS NUMBER.

Don't trust this number.  I called the number on the bottom of my debit card and the lady at that number said that fraud prevention will always refer you to the customer service number such as she was at.  I would say the 800-366-1962 number is a scam. I was ID'd by chase by answering my own ID questions, no account number info passed excepting what the chase rep pulled up based on my ID questions. I never said the numbere ; she never said the number ; the 800 number was a SCAM!

They called me twice today and gave me a reference number. I immediately called chase and informed them about this call. Chase told me not to enter any account or pin numbers when we are using this call service. This is really a scam call!! Be Cautious.

This call is not Chase Bank.  Do not give any info. If in doubt, hang up, call the bank and double check them yourself.  The actual bank had no record of suspicious activity or making the alert call.

This IS Chase.  I called Chase directly at the customer service number on their website and they said my account was fine.  When I gave them the number that called me, they said that this number is associated with their loss prevention dept.   Chase then transferred me to their loss prevention dept and the rep stayed on the line with me. Loss prevention was just confirming a large transfer I had made earlier that day.

Bottom line - this is a safe number, but when in doubt, call the bank directly and ask.

Not according to my branch either.  And not according to several different idiots at chase when I called them.  There was no record of any suspicious activity, according to the info they had access to.  What I did was call back the original suspicious number and tell them that I didn't want to give out personal info on the phone to a random number.  The guy on the phone said to call the number on the back the card and go about it that way.  I told him I tried that and nobody knew anything.  He said to have them call a certain number he gave me (877 691 8086).  So I did that, I called the number on back of my card, I talked to someone, almost had to twist her arm to get her from doing the same routine I went through earlier (that got me nowhere) and call the number I had.  Once I gave her that number she told me that she did know it was a fraud prevention number of theirs.  So she called it and hooked me up with them.  So if you want to be really sure, you're probably going to have to go through all of that.  I suggest having the number first, the one you want chase to call, otherwise you will just go around and around.  I have three different chase accounts (personal, business, credit card), by the way, so that didn't help to speed it up.

Hope this helps someone.  It is ridiculous that Chase can't make that stuff both safer and simpler.

Does NOT seem to be a fraud.  Try calling the number on the back of your card instead and ask for the fraud prevention unit.

I called Chase from a number on their website.  They confirmed the number is theirs and connected me to fraud prevention.  It is a valid Chase number.

Kat Negrete is absolutely correct. This is NOT a fraud call, it is indeed from Chase Fraud Prevention team. If you get a call from this #, make sure to call back directly Chase and get it cleared up otherwise your transfer will get held up.

this is NOT a scam! i worked for chase for 3 years as a teller and my husband currently works there. if you make an online quick pay or external transfer of some sort, they will call to verify if you have done so. the reason why many people this it is a scam is because this number is only supposed to be associated with that purpose and does not have anything to do with chase accounts, its purpose is to find out if you were the one who made the transfer. as soon as you confirm, the transfer will be made available to the other person/party.

I got 2 calls, first to my cell then to my home number.  Did not answer either then looked up this thread.  Lily is correct.  Even though the robot lady sounds scary and unprofessional, it is Chase.  I scheduled a transfer of money from my Chase account to an external account.  They had called to verify I did that.  I called the number and the "robot" simply asked if I initiated the transfer.  I pressed 1 and they said that's all they needed.  Didn't ask for any info except for my zip code to verify my identity since I called back from my home phone.  As soon they told me the exact transaction they were referencing, I knew it was legit.  They simply need a better robot lady.
