Received a call from 1-800-390-4812 asking for money I told this man I didn`t have any money to give to the cancer society this year & he kept at me to give money by the end of the year & I kept telling I didn`t have any money.
If I want to donate money I don`t need this kind of haressment to do it. Is this a scam or what?

I have recieved 20 calls from this organization in the last 5 days.  11 of the calls were on the same day and 4 were within the same hour.  I have told them 5 times that I am not Anna & to take me off their calling list.  I have reported them with the National Do Not Call Registry, FCC and FTC.  I am about to file a police report.  I have sent them 10 emails and left 2 messages.  Ridiculous!

Total scam. They have been doing this for years and still getting away with it. There is no regulation to stop crooks from stealing money over the phone.

    They are persistent.

Before you pledge, take a look at what they provide by visiting their website. Their products include OTC medicines (Aspirin), shampoo, gloves, and a very few other sundries. Your donation will NOT help a cancer victim get better or with their financial hardship. 64% will go to making the employees lives more lavish and the rest is wasted on unnecessary items typically provided by the facility they are in.

Your money would be better used if you donated these types of items directly to a local hospice. At least the cancer patients would receive the full value of the donation.

My humble opinion - a terrible scam. Just Say NO!

Same number, same problem. I just read on another forum that with some phone companies if you dial *60 you can block any numbers you want to from calling. I tried it and it worked for me!

I got a call saying " Hello, Mrs. ____  you have very good looking children" It was a female voice and then it hung up.  I am not happy.  I feel that this is a threat.  This was on my home phone.  I am going to find out who did this and they will loose their job.

Called at 8:46 am.  If I recall Army etiquette is calls only between 9am-9pm.  Who are these people?

This is the first call we've gotten from this number (January 18, 2010 at 7:33 PM).

The phone rang two times, then disconnected.  There was no time to answer, and my voice message machine did not have time to answer.

The information posted on this web site indicates that it is a fundraising scam.

I agree with the previous poster that you should not even say the word 'yes' in any context, if you speak with them.

Do not engage them in any conversation.  Do not try to explain your reasons for not giving.  The best response is "No, thank you," and then hang up.

If you want to donate money to help fight cancers, go do your own research and decide for yourself which organizations are doing the best work.

Found the Cancer Fund of America website (http://www.cfoa.org) and a contact number of 1-800-578-5284. Spoke to a Mike Reynolds who claimed to be the Fund Raising Manager and he assured me I will be added to their Do Not Call list. We'll see.

According to the Better Business Bureau:

The BBB found that more than 99 percent of all cash donations to the organization pay professional fundraising costs, salaries for charity officials, consultant fees and other expenses related to the charity’s operations.

“The large gap between Cancer Fund of America’s cash donations and the portion ultimately benefiting cancer patients should be a concern for every potential donor,” said Michelle Corey, president and CEO of the St. Louis BBB. “Even when compared to other nonprofits that rely heavily on professional fundraisers, the charity’s record is unsatisfactory and donors should know that only a fraction of their donation will provide any direct benefit to cancer patients or their families.”
