- MarkMost cancer funds don't go to patients but to research. Lots of cities have at least one local cancer research/treatment center. If you give money to them instead of some random charity, they won't have to waste overhead with fundraising, and you've probably already heard of them.
If your city doesn't have one, you can try the Jimmy Fund, which is part of the Harvard-affiliated Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where chemotherapy was invented.

A number of years ago, I got a lot of calls from the American Cancer Society, which I call the American Cancer Lobbying Society, because they spend more on lobbying than research and treatment. So they're no better.
BTW, in my state, don't waste your time going to the state attorney general. She does not prosecute consumer affairs, corporate fraud, or political corruption.- Caller: Cancer Fund

- LizThey called - the woman was trying to supress her laughter and she was looking for donations for the cancer fund. I asked her what was so funny about cancer. She replied: "oh, nothing. Thank you anyway" ... before she hung up I could still hear her in the background saying "Dammit, Stop it. This guy heard me laughing" Then the phone went dead...

- MelroseThis number always comes up as Toll-Free Call on my Caller ID. If it is actually a legitimate company then they should have the balls to put their real name on the Caller ID. If it says Toll-Free or Privacy Manager, then I just don't waste my time answering.

- MitchHellmanUnfortunately, filing a complaint at the above website will not work-- the caller is considered a charity, and is therefore exempt from conforming to the Do Not Call registry.
I received a call from these people today (they woke me up). The person I spoke to said that she wanted to send me a pledge card; I said that it was OK to do so, but that I would like to examine their literature first before making any sort of decision. She then said that she didn't want to put me in a bind, but that they only send out the cards to people who have made a commitment to donate... at which point I said that she *was* putting me in a bind, that I had now decided that I was definitely *not* going to donate to them, and that she should remove my number from her list and not call again. (The last time I made a commitment to a woman, she married me! :)- Caller: Cancer Fund of America?
- Call type: Telemarketer
- MitchHellman replies to FCC watchdogSorry, but filing a complaint against this caller will do you no good. Quoting from the donotcall.gov website:
"*Reminder:Even if your number is registered, charities, political organizations, and telephone surveyors may continue to call you."

- RoboManAppears to be a scam.. no such organization is listed in IRS 501 C database.
No matter there is a website that purports to be a NY registered charity.. without 501 C designation a tax deduction is not allowed.
Several organizations with "cancer" in their name are bogus.. one I traced to Cayman Islands... a bogus charity off shore.. no 501 C designation... called themselves "Breast Cancer Support Fund" as I recall. they subcontract to a telemarketer here in US to solicit.. telemarketers are just "[***]" anyway so they call and read copy they have been given.. another one is a State Police Officer Fund.. no such charity exists. Solicitation is via telemarketer also. I received a call once.. that started saying they were one charity.. realized their mistake and paused.. and then read copy for another supposed charity. There are many such I discovered that are telemarketing operations.. the parent scam artist Org pays the "[***]' to pimp for them.
let's face it.. it's all just business as usual here in Amur'ca... and as loyal subjects we are supposed to never question these free market scammers.. try to get a Govt agency responsible to crack down is a lost cause... so best thing to do is use call blocking... never respond to any solicitation over the phone. No way to tell which ones are legit. And no one in Government cares enough to pursue such fraudulent solicitations. Think about that next time your Elected Official has his hand out for campaign contributions.
Even the USPS ignores fraudulent complaints for fraudulent solicitations.- Caller: American Cancer Fund
