THIS IS COMPLETE SCAM!  THEY GOT MY CREDIT CARD NUMBER AND RAN UP $1200.

Got a call from 800-545-1256 a Mr Oneill...wanted to speak with husband about a "personal business matter" from Mason Ohio...stated it was illegal for him to talk to me about his matter and could only speak with husband ..said it was not a telemarketer.... left his name and above number.. might call Maceys direct from account if this is a legit call from them?

Turns out it is a legit number.  After reading all the posts, I called the number on the back of the card.  It turns out I had an outstanding balance that I completely overlooked (hey, I was on a family vacation when the email came in notifying me of the bill, and then I got married and was on my honeymoon right after that).
At least I got Macy's to take off the finance charges.

This is NOT a telemarketing company and they ARE allowed to call you.  So just stop saying things like, "I'm on the DoNotCall list... Blah, blah, blah".  Also, anyone talking about this being a scam, needs to stop.  It is not a scam.

800-545-1256 is the callback number for the collection department at Macy's Department Stores.  Their callers will NOT leave ANY details because they must abide by FEDERAL LAWS regarding collection practices.  They may only discuss the matter with the party holding the past due account, and they will provide that persons name ONLY.

If they are not calling for you, or anyone else in your home that may happen to have the name that they provide, simply take a few minutes to call them back and advise they are calling the wrong number in their attempts to reach that person.  They will happily, pleasantly, and immediately remove your number from their database.  That will be the last contact you have with them.  Problem fixed!!  (Unless upon a future date, you become arrears in payment to a Macy's credit account.)

everyone who says this is not the scam like GPF and other random names are obviously from the scam company. they're crafty [***] like that.

i like to call them and leave them talking to a recorded monologue of some sort.

these are scammers using cheap labor from india and elsewhere to try to extract info from thousands of americans. i think they have a list of american sounding names to give to you everytime in front of them lol. unfortunately according to statistics about every 1/however many people fall for it so they can keep getting money.

please just be smart, make your payments yourselves online or in person if you do have an outstanding balance and run these guys out of business.

these people are scammers, just give them fake information and play around with them if you get a bang out of that like I do. check your own damn balance to see if your late and make the payment online or in person people, not give your social to some goddamned stranger working in a scam scheme.

100% SCAM

800-545-1256 called and it was macy's - missed my pymnt last week and so went online and paid.

Called my parent's phone number who are 89 and 87.  Stating this is a Mr Brown personal business.

Called from 727-556-7300 said he was calling for my wife. I asked him what it was regarding and he said a business matter. I again asked him what it was regarding and he said he was calling from a company similar to Edge Field, could hardly understand him. He then miss spelled it completely different then what it sounded like. I called the 1-800-545-1256 that he gave to call back, the prompted messages said it was Macy's, I hung up.

He said to ask for David Blake, sorry he did not sound like a David Blake.. Scam!!

It is a scam!!!! I do not owe Macy's anything and he gave me another company name when he intially called.. Do not be stupid, go online and check your account!!

Some guy keeps calling asking for me by my former married name, one that I haven't used in 10 years.  I googled it and I got this site.  The only card left with this name left on it is a Macy's card.

Got a call from 1-800 545 1256. I wanted to make an payment over the phone and asked how do I know if this is a reputable call. The representative was able to give me all my personal information including my full social security number. I am completely shocked that Macy's allow their representatives access to such sensitive personal information!!

Called Macy's at  1-877-493-9207. Was told that it was a Macy's vendor that called and that the person did make a note on my account that I was contacted. Macy's did recognize the number and the call.
I am very unhappy that my sensitive personal information was so ready available. I complained about it but got nowhere with it.

I answered a call.from person calling himself "Anthony George". He said he wanted to speak with my wife. I said she wasn't here and asked to take a message. He said he was from "HCL Technologies".   I asked what he was calling about.  He said it  was confidential between him and my wife.  He had a accent that I believe was from the Indian subcontinent somewhere.  I googled "HCL Technologies". It is a software company most of whose high-level personnel look and whose names seem like the same location as the accent. The financial information cited was expressed in both US dollars and Rupees. Mr. George said my wife could call him at 800-545-1256.  I gave the message to my wife.  When she returned, we called 800-545-1256.  Macy's credit department answered!  As it turns out, HCL Technologies--in spite of what you find on their website--is a contracted call-center for Macy's!!   In my opinion, it is a great disservice to Macy's that the call center callers first, use the name of their companies (e.g. HCL Technologies) and second, DON'T tell the people they call that they represent Macy's.  I told Macy's the same but, the person I spoke with said they had gotten lots of calls such as ours.  In my opinion, someone at Macy's doesn't have all their lights turned on!
